Recent moiréconfigurations provide a new platform for tunable and sensitive photonic responses,as their enhanced light–matter interactions originate from the relative displacement or rotation angle in a stacking bilayer or multilayer periodic array.However,previous findings are mostly focused on atomically thin condensed matter,with limitations on the fabrication of multilayer structures and the control of rotation angles.Structured microwave moiréconfigurations are still difficult to realize.Here,we design a novel moiréstructure,which presents unprecedented capability in the manipulation of light–matter interactions.Based on the effective medium theory and S-parameter retrieval process,the rotation matrix is introduced into the dispersion relation to analyze the underlying physical mechanism,where the permittivity tensor transforms from a diagonal matrix to a fully populated one,whereas the permeability tensor evolves from a unit matrix to a diagonal one and finally becomes fully filled,so that the electromagnetic responses change drastically as a result of stacking and rotation.Besides,the experiment and simulation results reveal hybridization of eigenmodes,drastic manipulation of surface states,and magic angle properties by controlling the mutual rotation angles between two isolated layers.Here,not only a more precisely controllable bilayer hyperbolic metasurface is introduced to moiréphysics,the findings also open up a new avenue to realize flat bands at arbitrary frequencies,which shows great potential in active engineering of surface waves and designing multifunctional plasmonic devices.

Transformation optics(TO)facilitates flexible designs of spatial modulation of optical materials via coordinate transformations,thus,enabling on-demand manipulations of electromagnetic waves.However,the application of TO theory in control of hyperbolic waves remains elusive due to the spatial metric signature transition from(+,+)to(−,+)of a two-dimensional hyperbolic geometry.Here,we proposed a distinct Pythagorean theorem,which leads to establishing an anisotropic Fermat’s principle.It helps to construct anisotropic geometries and is a powerful tool for manipulating hyperbolic waves at the nanoscale and polaritons.Making use of absolute instruments,the excellent collimating and focusing behaviors of naturally in-plane hyperbolic polaritons in van der Waals𝛼α–MoO_(3)layers are demonstrated,which opens up a new way for polaritons manipulation.

The history of hyperbolic system of conservation laws can date back to the eighteenth century,after several works of the natural philosophers,most notably L.Euler.The compressible Euler system,consisting of mass,momentum and energy in the divergence form,is the prototypical model of the hyperbolic system of conservation laws,and its main feature is the shock formation in a finite time no matter how the initial values smooth.This poses huge challenges in the mathematical analysis.

We develop a Thurston-like theory to characterize geometrically finite rational maps, and then apply it to study pinching and plumbing deformations of rational maps. We show that under certain conditions the pinching path converges uniformly and the quasiconformal conjugacy converges uniformly to a semi-conjugacy from the original map to the limit. Conversely, every geometrically finite rational map with parabolic points is the landing point of a pinching path for any prescribed plumbing combinatorics.

We propose a numerical algorithm for hyperbolic gradient flow with pressure for the initial value problem and boundary value problem on a compact manifold to investigate the influence of pressure on the evolution of the manifold.In particular,we simulate the behavior of a cotangent vector field on compact submanifolds in R3,and show that shock waves are generated.
