Quantification of Ride Comfort Using Musculoskeletal Mathematical Model Considering Vehicle Behavior

This research aims to quantify driver ride comfort due to changes in damper characteristics between comfort mode and sport mode,considering the vehicle’s inertial behavior.The comfort of riding in an automobile has been evaluated in recent years on the basis of a subjective sensory evaluation given by the driver.However,reflecting driving sensations in design work to improve ride comfort is abstract in nature and difficult to express theoretically.Therefore,we evaluated the human body’s effects while driving scientifically by quantifying the driver’s behavior while operating the steering wheel and the behavior of the automobile while in motion using physical quantities.To this end,we collected driver and vehicle data using amotion capture system and vehicle CAN and IMU sensors.We also constructed a three-dimensional musculoskeletal mathematical model to simulate driver movements and calculate the power and amount of energy per unit of time used for driving the joints and muscles of the human body.Here,we used comfort mode and sport mode to compare damper characteristics in terms of hardness.In comfort mode,damper characteristics are soft and steering stability is mild,but vibration from the road is not easily transmitted to the driver making for a lighter load on the driver.In sport mode,on the other hand,damper characteristics are hard and steering stability is comparatively better.Still,vibration from the road is easily transmitted to the driver,whichmakes it easy for a load to be placed on the driver.As a result of this comparison,it was found that a load was most likely to be applied to the driver’s neck.This result in relation to the neck joint can therefore be treated as an objective measure for quantifying ride comfort.

The goal of the Human engineering design is clear,and the approach to catch the goal is various.The author will take three chair designs as cases:the chair designed by basic human scale standard,Kneeling chair,and Armchair "Vertebra".The three cases exactly exhibit three models of human-product relationship:adapt,guide and interact.The Human engineering design should not use only one model invariably and isolated,but choice,organize and colligate various means and forms widely and neatly in order to realize design goal.So we should understand and accord with human’s attribute and particularity firstly,and then lead human’s life developing to energetic and positive way.We also should harmonize the relationship of human and product,and mobilize their advantages and effects.The product and its user will affect each other,match each other,supply each other and revise each other,and then establish the best relationship of human-product.

Driver State Detection Based on Cardiovascular System and Driver Reaction Information Using a Graphical Model

Traffic accidents are mainly caused by human error. In an aging society, the number of accidents attributed to elderly drivers is increasing. One noteworthy reason for this is operation misapplication. Studies have been conducted on the use of human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to inform the driver when he or she makes an error and encourage appropriate actions. However, the driver state during the erroneous action has not been investigated. The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference in the driver’s state between normal and surprising situations in a misapplication scenario, utilizing multimodal information such as biometric information and driver operation. We found significant changes in the interaction of components between the normal and the surprised driving state. The results could provide basic knowledge for the future development of a driver assistance system and driver state estimation using data acquired from multiple sensors in the vehicle.

Examination of Experimental Method to Extract Characteristics of Lower Limb Movement in Emergency Braking Operation

The purpose of this study is to clarify the driving behavior and reaction pattern peculiar to the elderly. In this paper, we conducted a brake operation experiment with five young people, and aimed to create an evaluation index and an experimental method that can extract the characteristics of emergency brake operation from pedaling force and lower limb movement. The results showed that in order to operate the brakes strongly and quickly, the knee was firmly flection, and then the pedaling force was increased when the knee was extended. Furthermore, it was shown that if the brakes were operated without moving the ankle joint, the operation would be quicker.

STUDY ON ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE EXPOSURE OF RESIDENCE

A survey on environmental noise was carried out in Beijing from April to August, 1986. The data of Leq and L50 for every 10 minutes in each day were obtained. The reactions of inhabitants to noise and information related to noise environment were also collected. The results concerning environmental noise exposure and reactions of inhabitants are stated.
