Objective:To analyze the factors related to pregnancy of endometriosis and whether Chinese herbal medicines(CHMs)can improve pregnancy outcomes in patients with endometriosis in long-term management.Methods:This multicenter cohort study retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of endometriosis patients with fertility needs from January 2019 to November 2019.A total of 252 patients with endometriosis from 5 level-ⅢGrade A hospitals in Beijing were included in this study.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed for the relevant factors.The propensity score matching(PSM)function of SPSS software was used to match the CHMs group with the non-CHMs group.The pregnancy rate and live birth rate were analyzed.Results:The results of univariate analysis showed that age,disease course,presence of infertility,presence of adenomyosis,time after surgery or use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist(Gn RH-a),use of CHMs and follow-up time were influencing factors of pregnancy in endometriosis patients(P6 months were independent risk factors(OR=0.445,0.348,0.140,respectively,P<0.05),time after surgery or use of Gn RH-a 6 months and use of CHMs were independent protective factors(OR=3.839,3.842,respectively,P<0.05).After PSM,99 pairs of two groups were matched successfully.The pregnancy rate of the CHMs group was higher than that of the non-CHMs group[55.56%(55/99)vs.36.36%(36/99),P<0.05].The live birth rate of the CHMs group was higher than that of the non-CHMs group[49.49%(49/99)vs.35.35%(35/99),P<0.05].Conclusion:CHMs can effectively improve clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate of patients with endometriosis in the chronic disease management.

BACKGROUND Chinese herbal medicine is widely used as a complement or alternative treatment in coronary artery disease(CAD)patients after percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)in China.We compared the incidence of the major adverse cardi-ovascular event(MACE)of CAD patients with or without the complement use of Chinese herbal medicine after PCI.METHODS In this prospective,observational study that was conducted from September 2016 to August 2019 in Fuwai Hospital(China),we followed up consecutive patients who received PCI treatment for two years.MACE was defined as the composite all-cause mortality,revascularization,and myocardial infarction(MI)and was compared between those using(integrative medicine group)or those not using Chinese herbal medicine as an additional treatment to standard Western medicine,with unadjusted(Kaplan-Meier curves)and risk-adjusted(multivariable Cox regression)analyses.RESULTS A total of 5942 patients after PCI were enrolled in this study,and 5453 patients were included in the final analysis(4189[76.8%]male;mean age:61.9±9.9%years).During the follow-ups,2932(53.8%)patients used only Western medicine while 2521(46.2%)patients had used Chinese herbal medicine as an additional treatment to standard Western medicine.Patients in the integrative medicine group(IM group)were older than the Western medicine group(WM group),had more females and less pre-vious MI.The incidence of MACE was 15.3%(449/2932)in WM group and 11.54%(291/2521)in IM group.Cox regression ana-lysis showed that cumulative incidence of MACE was 27%lower in patients of the IM group than those in WM group(hazard ra-tio=0.73;95%CI:0.63-0.85;Pherbal medicine is associated with a lower 2-year MACE incidence.Randomized prospective studies are warranted to provide higher levels of benefit evidence in these pa-tients.

Dear Editor,In 2012,Zhang et al.(2012)published an interesting and widely cited article in Cell Research.They reported that exogenous plant miR168a could enter mammals through oral food intake to regulate the expression of mammalian LDLRAP1 gene.From then on,cross-kingdom regulation of diet-derived plant miRNAs has generated substantial interest and attracted media to report.Although there is evidence to support this point of view,the authenticity of cross-kingdom regulation of plant miRNAs has been widely questioned.In 2019,Science China Life Sciences published a special topic entitled“herbal small RNA,novel precision medicine from Mother Nature”,in which the authors tried to demonstrate an idea that herbal sRNAs are novel precision medicines.This is a thought further than cross-kingdom regulation of sRNAs.However,are herbal sRNAs really novel precision medicines?

This interview was conducted on August 21st, 2022 by Charles Buck and Ioannis Solos. Peter Deadman has worked in the field of health promotion for 50 years. He co-founded Infinity Foods(an organic and natural foods workers co-op) in 1971, followed by the Brighton Natural Health Centre-a charity dedicated to teaching ways to improve personal, community and planetary health and wellbeing. He qualified as an acupuncturist in 1978 and in Chinese herbal medicine in 1990. He founded The Journal of Chinese Medicine(UK) in 1979(Fig. 1), and co-authored A Manual of Acupuncture(published in 1998). He is the author of Live Well Live Long: Teachings from the Chinese Nourishment of Life Tradition. He has taught Chinese medicine and health promotion internationally for decades and is a dedicated practitioner and teacher of Qi Gong(气功).

Objective:To investigate the potential activity of novel herbal combination and novel herbal formulation(syrup)in female Sprague Dawley rats with letrozole-induced polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods:Forty-two rats were randomly divided into seven groups with six rats in each group.Group 1 received 0.5%carboxy methylcellulose orally for 37 days and served as the normal control group.Group 2 was orally administered with letrozole of 1 mg/kg for 21 days and served as the PCOS induction group without treatment.Group 3 to 7 were administered with letrozole of 1 mg/kg for 21 days orally to induce PCOS,and then respectively received clomiphene citrate at 1 mg/kg,100 and 200 mg/kg of novel herbal combination,200 mg/kg of novel herbal formulation(syrup),and 400 mg/kg of marketed formulation of Pushyanuga churna,once daily for 15 days.Effects of the novel herbal combination and its syrup formulation were evaluated on the hormonal profile,the levels of antioxidants,the lipid profile and on the ovarian morphology,using letrozole-induced PCOS model in rats.Results:Letrozole caused alterations in hormonal levels and lipid levels similar to PCOS and ovarian histology showed presence of ovarian cysts confirming the induction of PCOS in rats.On treatment with the novel herbal combination and its syrup formulation in PCOS-induced rats,the altered hormonal and lipid profiles showed significant recovery to normal levels.Ovarian histology confirmed the restoration of folliculogenesis in the PCOS-induced rats.The treatment with the syrup formulation of novel herbal combination was found to be more effective than novel herbal combination and showed better recovery in various parameters evaluated.The results of the study,however,suggested that treatment with novel herbal combination and its syrup formulation provided minimal protection against oxidative stress caused due to the induction of PCOS.Conclusions:The integrated approach for management of PCOS is to counterbalance the limitations associated with modern therapy.Both the no
