Influence of education training in patients with type 2 diabetes in the improvement of lifestyle and biochemical characteristics: a randomized controlled trial

Objective: The objective of this randomized controlled trial study was to evaluate the education training in relation to lifestyle improvement in patients with type 2 diabetes through its influence in the levels of glycated hemoglobin(HbA1 c), blood pressure, triglyceride, cholesterol levels, and body mass index(BMI).Methods: The study included patients with type 2 diabetes randomly selected from 20 residential areas in Tirana, Albania where family physicians provide services. The sample size in total was 200 patients in both groups(control and intervention). The education training(four sessions) was conducted by trained nursing staff for 6 months. Patients were screened for the biochemical profile before and after the intervention. To compare the groups with respect to the interest outcomes, the t-test was used. The value of P education sessions. After the intervention, in the intervention group, the mean level of HbA1 c was significantly lower than the value in the control group(6.2% vs 6.8%, P = 0.001) as well as for the mean values of BMI. The mean reduction(more than 15%) in HbA1 c after the intervention was 43% in the intervention group and 2% in the control group(OR = 36.9, P 0.05).Conclusions: The results of this study further support that the approach for education of patients with type 2 diabetes on changing lifestyle benefit the patient in controlling diabetes. An HIV/AIDS intervention programme with Buddhist aid in Yunnan Province

Background The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Chinese ethnic minorities is an important component of China＇s AIDS issues. In this study, we launched an intervention programme in Yunnan Province of China, where the Dai people live, to carry out the community-based HIV/AIDS health education and behavioral interventions on ordinary Dai farmers. The Dai people believe in Theravada Buddhism. Methods Four rural communities were randomly divided into two groups. In one group （Buddhist group）, HIV/AIDS health education and behavioral intervention were carried out by monks. The other group （women group） was instructed by women volunteers. The intervention continued for one year and the data were collected before and after the intervention project. Results In the Buddhist group, the villagers＇ AIDS related knowledge score was boosted from 3.11 to 3.65 （P 〈0.001）, and some indices of the villagers＇ behavior using condoms improved after the intervention. But this improvement was poorer than that in the women group. In the Buddhist group, the villager＇s attitude score towards the people living with HIV and AIDS （PLWHA） also increased significantly from 1.51 to 2.16 （P〈0.001）. Conclusion The results suggested that the Buddhist organization has limited success in promoting the use of condoms but plays an important role in eliminating HIV/AIDS related discrimination.

Stroke prevention awareness and treatment knowledge among patients' relatives

BACKGROUND： Recent research indicates that if a stroke can be effectively treated within three hours, prognosis is improved. Therefore, it is necessary to properly educate stroke patients＇ relatives about prevention and treatment. OBJECTIVE： To survey and analyze the present awareness of stroke prevention and treatment knowledge among patients＇ relatives. DESIGN： Cross-sectional study. SETTING： Beijing Hospital and Medical College of Shandong University and Harrison International Peace Hospital, the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei Medical University. PARTICIPANTS： From May 2005 to November 2006, a ＂stroke awareness＂ questionnaire survey was performed in four hospitals, including Harrison International Peace Hospital in Hengshui City （third class, first grade）, Fucheng County People＇s Hospital （second class, first grade）, Zaoqiang County Jiahui Countryside Hospital （first class, first grade） and Hengshui City Electricity Industry Bureau Infirmary. The participants provided confirmed consent. METHODS： The ＂stroke awareness＂ questionnaire included 10 questions： 1 -8 were related to the understanding of stroke, 9 and 10 were related to behavior and attitude towards medical treatment. Demographic information was also collected on each participant, including age, education level, and occupation. Each positive answer accounted for one point. A score of 8 or higher was categorized as ＂good stroke awareness＂. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Scores of stroke awareness. RESULTS： A total of 4 000 ＂stroke awareness＂ questionnaires were printed and distributed. 3 597 copies were completed and 3 468 were included in the study. （1） Relative factors of stroke awareness： The survey demonstrated that the participant＇s age, educational level, occupation, grade of hospital, and the relationship with the patient had a significant effect on their stroke awareness （P 〈 0.05-0.01）. （2） Stroke knowledge： With regard to stroke awareness, 72% subjects did not know the signs indicating the onset of transie

health literacy and awareness are essential strategies in promoting global health and improving access to care. While seen as an essential tool for promoting population health awareness to improve early detection and treatment of chronic diseases, it is yet to be emphasized in most African countries. health literacy is an essential practice to promote chronic disease prevention and reduce the growing threat to population health. Incidences and mortalities from chronic diseases commonly arise from limited knowledge of the causative risk factors and access to health facilities. Without knowledge about causes, health impacts, and available health services, people continue to indulge in the habits that worsen their health conditions and fail to access care timely. By using health literacy and awareness as a tool for chronic disease prevention, healthcare professionals will develop strategic health awareness programs that fit the socio-demographics of the population they serve. This article explored the significant role health awareness occupies in individual and community health prevention through health promotion and education. It reviewed the concept and dimensions of chronic disease prevention, cultural beliefs and impact on chronic diseases, gaps created by low health literacy, and the significance of health literacy in disease prevention and health promotion. Furthermore, it recommends that health systems and local communities form partnerships to address common and emerging health problems, and health systems should be properly funded.

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is responsible for almost 99% of cervical cancers. Cervical cancer is a public health problem, being the fourth most common type of tumor among women worldwide and the third most common cancer among women in Brazil. It is known that cervical cancer is one of the most easily preventable forms of cancer, as there is a highly effective vaccine against HPV, however, morbidity and mortality rates related to human papillomavirus are still frightening, especially in less developed countries. Low vaccination adherence rates, especially the second dose, are probably a reflection of the lack of knowledge about this virus, its clinical repercussions, and the vaccine. A clinical trial was carried out in a higher education institution in Alagoas (Brazil), with students of the medical course to whom a validated questionnaire was applied on HPV in the virtual environment (google forms). Data collection was carried out throughout the month of May of the year 2023. It was shown that the knowledge of medical students about the human papillomavirus was less than what would be desired for future doctors. The alert for the acute need to assess health illiteracy is clear, especially regarding cancer that can be prevented by a highly effective vaccine.

Parasitic contamination of raw vegetables and fruits collected from selected local markets in Arba Minch town,Southern Ethiopia

Background:One way that people get infected with intestinal parasites is through the consumption of contaminated vegetables and *** study aimed at determining the prevalence and predictors of parasitic contamination of fruits and vegetables collected from four local markets in Arba Minch town,Southern ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted from 1 to 21 September 2014 to determine the level of parasitic contamination of fruits and vegetables sold in Arba Minch town.A total of 360 samples of different types of fruits and vegetables were soaked in physiological saline,followed by vigorous shaking with the aid of a mechanical shaker for 15 minutes and then examined using the sedimentation concentration ***:Out of the 360 samples examined,196(54.4%)were contaminated with at least one type of *** lumbricoides(20.83%)was the most frequently detected parasite and Isospora belli(3.06%)was the least frequently detected *** was also observed that decreased parasitic contamination was significantly associated with washing the products before displaying it for selling(P<0.001).Conclusions:The findings of this study provide evidence that there is a potentially high risk of acquiring parasitic infections from the consumption of raw vegetables and fruits in Arba Minch,*** authors believe that an effort should be made by the relevant bodies to reduce the rate of contamination of products with medically important parasites by educating the vendors and the community.
