A direction related polarizer was inserted into a ring laser cavity to eliminate one of the two eigen-modes as well as spatial hole burning of the gain medium in a bidirectional Er-doped fiber ring laser. Thus, a fiber ring laser gyroscope （FRLG） operating in continuous wave was demonstrated. A beat signal of over 30-dB noise was observed and a good linear relation between the beat frequency shift and cavity rotation rate was obtained.

This study proposes a novel interferometric fiber optic gyroscope(IFOG)based on an integrated optical chip,application-specific integrated circuit,and small-diameter sensing *** overall size and weight of the prototype are 30 mm × 30 mm ×30 mm and 68 g,respectively,making it the smallest closed-loop IFOG,to the best of our knowledge.A static experiment shows that the bias stability of the integrated IFOG is very close to the theoretical accuracy limit determined by the fiber coil and can satisfy the requirements of near-navigation-grade compact inertial navigation systems.

Radiation-induced attenuation （RIA） in four types of polarization-maintaining optical fibers for interfer-ometric fiberoptic gyroscope （IFOG） at 1310 nm is measured. The measurements are conducted during and after steady-state γ-ray irradiation using a 60 Co source in order to observe significantly different RIA behavior and recovery kinetics. Mechanisms involving dopants and manufacturing process are introduced to analyze the RIA discrepancy as well as to guide the choice and hardening of optical fibers during the design of IFOG. Medium-accuracy IFOG using Ge–F-codoped fiber and pure silica core fiber can survive in the space radiation environment.

Resonator integrated optic gyro （RIOG） is a high-accuracy gyroscope based on the Sagnac effect. The waveguide- type ring resonator is a key rotation sensing element in the RIOG. An asymmetric resonance line shape is found in the optic resonator. These asymmetries will induce offset errors when the phase modulation spectroscopy technique （PMST） is applied to the RIOG. The polarization errors and the difference among normal mode losses are found to be the two main sources of resonance asymmetry in an experiment. These sources are fully investigated and their contributions to the offset errors are compared. The analysis shows that proper modulation frequencies in clockwise （CW） and counterclockwise （CCW） directions can reduce an RIOG bias error. A transmissive resonator is recommended to obtain a better resonance line shape.

A novel polarization maintaining fiber （PMF） loop is proposed and used for an interferometric fiber optic gyroscope （FOG）. By splicing a conventional PMF loop with two pigtailed polarization beam splitters, polarized light can be guided to propagate along the slow and fast axes of the PMF in sequence to double its effective optical length in the loop. In particular, the resultant optical length in the combined loop is partially self-compensated for some external disturbances, such as transverse strain. Primary experiments on the FOG using the proposed loop demonstrate that the average static bias deviation between-40 and ＋60 °C is less than 0.050 deg./h, and the average bias variation under conventional random vibration test is less than 0.10 deg./h.

We propose a robust scheme that creates a toroidal magnetic potential on a single-layer atom chip. The wire layout consists of two interleaved Archimedean spirals, which avoids the trapping perturbation caused by the input and output ports. By using a rotation bias field, the minimum of the time-averaged orbiting potential is lifted from zero, and then a relatively smooth and harmonic ring trap is formed. The location of the waveguide is immune to the magnetic variations, as it is only determined by the wire layout. The ring waveguide offers an ideal solution to developing a compact and portable atomic Kyroscope.

Wide dynamic range is an important index of the resonator fiber optic gyro（RFOG）. The dynamic range is related to the parameters of the fiber ring resonator（FRR）. After adopting the appropriate parameters, the resonant curve of a FRR and the synchronous demodulated curve are measured. Based on the closed-loop frequency locking technique, the wide dynamic range is obtained, while the linearity is guaranteed. The experiment’s results show that the dynamic range is 480 deg ∕s with less than 1% nonlinearity, and that the bias stability is0.04 deg/s over 2000 s. This Letter demonstrates the scheme for a RFOG with a wide dynamic range.

Bias of ring-laser-gyroscope （RLG） changes with temperature in a nonlinear way. This is an important restraining factor for improving the accuracy of RLG. Considering the limitations of least-squares regression and neural network, we propose a new method of temperature compensation of RLG bias building function regression model using least-squares support vector machine （LS-SVM）. Static and dynamic temperature experiments of RLG bias are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Moreover, the traditional least-squares regression method is compared with the LS-SVM-based method. The results show the maximum error of RLG bias drops by almost two orders of magnitude after static temperature compensation, while bias stability of RLG improves by one order of magnitude after dynamic temperature compensation. Thus, the proposed method reduces the influence of temperature variation on the bias of the RLG effectively and improves the accuracy of the gyro scope considerably.
