A direction related polarizer was inserted into a ring laser cavity to eliminate one of the two eigen-modes as well as spatial hole burning of the gain medium in a bidirectional Er-doped fiber ring laser. Thus, a fiber ring laser gyroscope （FRLG） operating in continuous wave was demonstrated. A beat signal of over 30-dB noise was observed and a good linear relation between the beat frequency shift and cavity rotation rate was obtained.

Inertial navigation represents a unique method of navigation,in which there is no dependency on external sources of information.As opposed to other position fixing navigation techniques,inertial navigation performs the navigation in a relative sense with respect to the initial navigation state of the moving platform.Hence,inertial navigation systems are not prone to jamming,or spoofing.Inertial navigation systems have developed vastly,from their occurrence in the 1940s up to date.The accuracy of the inertial sensors has improved over time,making inertial sensors sufficient in terms of size,weight,cost,and accuracy for navigation and guidance applications.Within the past few years,inertial sensors have developed from being purely mechanical into incorporating various technologies and taking advantage of numerous physical phenomena,from which the dynamic forces exerted on a moving body could be computed accurately.Besides,the evolution of inertial navigation scheme involved the evolution from stable-platform inertial navigation system,which were mechanically complicated,to computationally demanding strap-down inertial navigation systems.Optical sensory technologies have provided highly accurate inertial sensors,at smaller sizes.Besides,the vibratory inertial navigation technologies enabled the production of Micro-electro-machined inertial sensors that are extremely low-cost,and offer extremely low size,weight and power consumption,making them suitable for a wide range of day-to-day navigation applications.Recently,advanced inertial sensor technologies have been introduced to the industry such as nuclear magnetic resonance technology,coldatom technology,and the reintroduction of fluid-based inertial sensors.On another note,inertial sensor errors constitute a huge research aspect in which it is intended for inertial sensors to reach level in which they could operate for substantially long operation times in the absence of updates from aiding sensors,which would be a huge leap.Inertial sensors error modeling technique

Resonator integrated optic gyro （RIOG） is a high-accuracy gyroscope based on the Sagnac effect. The waveguide- type ring resonator is a key rotation sensing element in the RIOG. An asymmetric resonance line shape is found in the optic resonator. These asymmetries will induce offset errors when the phase modulation spectroscopy technique （PMST） is applied to the RIOG. The polarization errors and the difference among normal mode losses are found to be the two main sources of resonance asymmetry in an experiment. These sources are fully investigated and their contributions to the offset errors are compared. The analysis shows that proper modulation frequencies in clockwise （CW） and counterclockwise （CCW） directions can reduce an RIOG bias error. A transmissive resonator is recommended to obtain a better resonance line shape.

We propose a robust scheme that creates a toroidal magnetic potential on a single-layer atom chip. The wire layout consists of two interleaved Archimedean spirals, which avoids the trapping perturbation caused by the input and output ports. By using a rotation bias field, the minimum of the time-averaged orbiting potential is lifted from zero, and then a relatively smooth and harmonic ring trap is formed. The location of the waveguide is immune to the magnetic variations, as it is only determined by the wire layout. The ring waveguide offers an ideal solution to developing a compact and portable atomic Kyroscope.

Wide dynamic range is an important index of the resonator fiber optic gyro（RFOG）. The dynamic range is related to the parameters of the fiber ring resonator（FRR）. After adopting the appropriate parameters, the resonant curve of a FRR and the synchronous demodulated curve are measured. Based on the closed-loop frequency locking technique, the wide dynamic range is obtained, while the linearity is guaranteed. The experiment’s results show that the dynamic range is 480 deg ∕s with less than 1% nonlinearity, and that the bias stability is0.04 deg/s over 2000 s. This Letter demonstrates the scheme for a RFOG with a wide dynamic range.

We propose a method for the real-time measurement of the reflection at both splicing points between a photonic bandgap fiber coil and conventional fiber during the process of fusion splicing in a photonic bandgap fiber optical gyroscope （PBFOG）, using the interference among the secondary waves, which arise from the fusion splicing points and the mirror face produced by intentionally cutting the bear end of the coupler. The method is theoretically proven and experimentally verified in a practical PBFOG, and it is significant for inline examination of the fusion splicing quality and evaluation of the PBFOG performance.

By studying the thermal-induced phase shift mechanism of an interferometric fiber-optic gyroscope （IFOG） sensing coil, a novel generalized expression based on a three-dimensional （3D） model is proposed. Compared with the traditional pure Shupe effect model, the simulation results show that the new 3D model, including elastic strain and the elasto-optical effect, can describe the thermal effect of the coils more accurately. Experiments with temperature change rates between -40℃ and 70℃ are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed generalized expression. The results of our work can guide researchers in identifying countermeasures to reduce the thermal-induced bias error in IFOG.

This study proposes a novel interferometric fiber optic gyroscope(IFOG)based on an integrated optical chip,application-specific integrated circuit,and small-diameter sensing coil.The overall size and weight of the prototype are 30 mm × 30 mm ×30 mm and 68 g,respectively,making it the smallest closed-loop IFOG,to the best of our knowledge.A static experiment shows that the bias stability of the integrated IFOG is very close to the theoretical accuracy limit determined by the fiber coil and can satisfy the requirements of near-navigation-grade compact inertial navigation systems.

Owing to the weak observability of the azimuth misalignment angle,alignment accuracy and time are always the contradictory issues in the initial alignment process of Strapdown Inertial Navigation System(SINS),which requires a compromise between them.In this paper,a combined alignment mechanism is proposed to construct an observable and controllable system model,which can effectively achieve higher azimuth alignment accuracy during the fixed time period.First,the Reduced Order Kalman Filter(ROKF)alignment algorithm was utilized to calculate the misalignment angles in parallel with the classical gyrocompass alignment algorithm.Then,the misalignment angles calculated by the gyrocompass alignment method were used to formulate the augmented measurement model with zero velocity models.Finally,the zero velocity model of the ROKF method was switched into the augmented measurement model when the azimuth misalignment angle of the gyrocompass alignment method was close to steady situation.The combined alignment method was analyzed reasonably by the observability and the mathematical deduction.The comparison results of the numerical simulation and the experimental data test showed that the combined method had good performance in terms of estimation accuracy and consistency of the alignment results.
