BACKGROUND The gastrointestinal symptom rating scale(GSRS)is a questionnaire in English language which is designed to assess the clinical symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS)and peptic ulcer *** validated scale has questions on around 15 items and has been validated in patients with dyspepsia and *** To translate and validate the English version of the GSRS questionnaire to the Hindi *** The purpose of the present work was to create a Hindi version of this questionnaire for use in the Indian *** process involved various steps as per the World health Organization methodology including initial forward translation,backward translation,and assessment by an expert *** pilot testing was followed by testing in healthy and diseased *** The Hindi translation was pilot tested in 20 individuals and further validated in healthy controls(n=30,15 females)and diseased individuals(n=72,27 females).The diseased group included patients with functional dyspepsia and ***'s alpha for internal consistency on the final translated GSRS questionnaire was 0.715 which is considered *** questions significantly differentiated the diseased population from the healthy population(P value<0.05)in the translated Hindi version of the *** The translated Hindi GSRS can be used to evaluate gastrointestinal function in clinical trials and community surveys in Hindi speaking populations.

Nutritional diarrhea and subsequent performance degradation in weaned piglets are major challenges for the pig *** acids(BA)can be added to the diet as *** experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of chenodeoxycholic acid(CDCA),a major primary BA,on growth performance,serum metabolic profiles and gut health in weaned piglets.A total of 72 healthy weaned piglets were randomly assigned to the control(CON)and the CDCA groups,which were feed a basal diet and the basal diet supplemented with 200 mg/kg CDCA for 30 d,*** results demonstrated that CDCA significantly increased final BW and average daily gain(ADG),decreased feed-to-gain(F:G)ratio and tended to reduce diarrhea *** addition,CDCA increased the villus height-to-crypt depth(V:C)ratio,elevated goblet cell numbers and the expression of tight junction proteins,suggesting the enhancement of intestinal barrier *** an emulsifier,CDCA increased jejunal lipase activity and the mRNA expression of pancreatic *** supplementation also altered the serum metabolic profiles,including increasing the levels of indole 3-acetic acid,N'-formylkynurenine and theobromine that were beneficial for gut ***,the relative abundance of 2 beneficial gut bacteria,Pre-votella 9 and Prevotellaceae TCG-001,were increased,whereas the relative abundance of a harmful bacteria,Dorea,was decreased in the gut of weaned piglets supplemented with ***,the altered serum metabolic profiles showed a strong correlation with the changed gut *** conclusion,CDCA improved the growth performance of weaned piglets by improving intestinal morphology and barrier function,and enhancing lipid digestion,accompanied by alterations of serum metabolic profiles,and changes in relative abundance of certain gut bacteria.

Background: Fruit pomaces are by-products rich in polyphenol compounds and dietary fiber. They seem to play an important role in regulating the gut microbiota, morphology and physiology. The aim of this study was to assess whether apple(A), blackurrant(B) or strawberry(S) pomaces could be suitable ingredients in broiler diets and their effect on gut health. A total of 480 male broilers were randomly allotted to 8 dietary treatments with lower(3%-L) or higher(6%-H) dietary fiber content: two control groups(CL/CH), two A diets(AL/AH), two B diets(BL/BH), two S diets(SL/SH). Diet and fruit pomaces were chemically analyzed to assess polyphenol concentration and fibre fraction content. After the evaluation of growth performance, 6 birds/group were slaughtered at 35 days of age. Morphometric and histopathological investigations were performed on duodenum, jejunum and *** were collected to perform microbiota evaluation by 16 S DNA sequencing. Weight, viscosity, enzymatic activity, short chain fatty acid(SCFAs) and ammonia concentration were determined in ileum and/or ceca ***: A pomace and A diets showed the lowest polyphenol content and the highest content of soluble fibre fraction. No significant differences were observed for growth performance, gut morphometry and histopathology(P > 0.05). The role of lactose in weanling pig nutrition:a literature and meta-analysis review

Lactose plays a crucial role in the growth performance of pigs at weaning because it is a palatable and easily digestible energy source that eases the transition from milk to solid ***,the digestibility of lactose declines after weaning due to a reduction in endogenous lactase activity in *** a result,some lactose may be fermented in the gastrointestinal tract of *** of lactose by intestinal microbiota yields lactic acid and volatile fatty acids,which may positively regulate the intestinal environment and microbiome,resulting in improved gastrointestinal health of weanling *** hypothesize that the prebiotic effect of lactose may play a larger role in weanling pig nutrition as the global feed industry strives to reduce antibiotic usage and pharmacological levels of zinc oxide and supra-nutritional levels of *** presented in this review indicates that high dietary lactose improves growth performance of piglets,as well as the growth of beneficial bacteria,particularly Lactobacillus,with the positive effects being more pronounced in the first 2 weeks after ***,the risk of post-weaning diarrhea may increase as pigs get older due to reduced lactase activity,high dietary lactose concentrations,and larger feed intakes,all of which may lead to excessive lactose fermentation in the intestine of the ***,dietary lactose levels exert different effects on growth performance and gastrointestinal physiological functions in different feeding phases of weanling ***,no formal recommendation of lactose for weanling pigs has been reported.A meta-analysis approach was used to determine that diets fed to swine should include 20%,15%,and 0 lactose from d 0-7,d 7-14,and d 14-35 post-weaning,***,sustainable swine production demands that economics must also be taken into account as lactose and lactose containing ingredients are ***,alternatives to lactose,so called“lactose equivalents

Advances in low-protein diets for swine

Recent years have witnessed the great advantages of reducing dietary crude protein(CP) with free amino acids(AA)supplementation for sustainable swine industry, including saving protein ingredients, reducing nitrogen excretion, feed costs and the risk of gut disorders without impairing growth performance compared to traditional diets. However, a tendency toward increased fatness is a matter of concern when pigs are fed low-protein(LP) diets. In response, the use of the net energy system and balanced AA for formulation of LP diets has been proposed as a solution. Moreover, the extent to which dietary CP can be reduced is complicated. Meanwhile, the requirements for the first five limiting AA(lysine, threonine, sulfur-containing AA, tryptophan, and valine) that growing-finishing pigs fed LP diets were higher than pigs fed traditional diets, because the need for nitrogen for endogenous synthesis of non-essential AA to support protein synthesis may be increased when dietary CP is lowered. Overall, to address these concerns and give a better understanding of this nutritional strategy, this paper reviews recent advances in the study of LP diets for swine and provides some insights into future research directions.

The ever-growing human population,coupled with the exigent need to meet the increasing demand for poultry meat and egg,has put the onus on poultry nutritionists and farmers to identify alternative feed ingredients that could assure the least-cost feed *** addition,the public desire for nonantibiotic-treated poultry products has also necessitated the ultimate search for potent antibiotic alternatives for use in poultry *** some identified alternatives are promising,their cost implications and technical know-how requirements may discourage their ease of adoption in *** use of plants and/or their by-products,like fruit pomaces,present a pocket-friendly advantage and as a result,are gaining much *** is traceable to their rich phytochemical profile,nutritional composition,ready availability,and relatively cheap *** fruit juice and wine pressing industries generate a plethora of fruit wastes ***,fruit pomaces contain appreciable dietary fibre,protein,and phenolic compounds,and thus,their adoption could serve the poultry industry in dual capacities including as substitutes to antibiotics and some conventional ***,there is a possibility to reduce fruit wastes produced and feed-cost in poultry farming from environmental and economical standpoints,*** review seeks to provide reinforcing evidence on the applicability and impact of fruit pomaces in poultry nutrition.

Dietary inclusion of multispecies probiotics to reduce the severity of post-weaning diarrhea caused by Escherichia coli F18+ in pigs

Effects of Aeriscardovia aeriphila on growth performance,antioxidant functions,immune responses,and gut microbiota in broiler chickens

Aeriscardovia aeriphila,also known as Bifidobacterium aerophilum,was first isolated from the caecal contents of pigs and the faeces of cotton-top *** species play important roles in preventing intestinal infections,decreasing cholesterol levels,and stimulating the immune *** this study,we isolated a strain of bacteria from the duodenal contents of broiler chickens,which was identified as ***,and then evaluated the effects of *** on growth performance,antioxidant functions,immune functions,and gut microbiota in commercial broiler *** were orally gavaged with ***(1×109 CFU/mL)for 21 *** results showed that *** treatment significantly increased the average daily gain and reduced the feed conversion ratio(P<0.001).The levels of serum growth hormone(GH)and insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1)were significantly increased following *** treatment(P<0.05).Blood urea nitrogen and aspartate aminotransferase levels were decreased,whereas glucose and creatinine levels increased as a result of *** ***,the levels of serum antioxidant enzymes,including catalase(P<0.01),superoxide dismutase(P<0.001),and glutathione peroxidase(P<0.05),and total antioxidant capacity(P<0.05)were enhanced following *** *** treatment significantly increased the levels of serum immunoglobulin A(IgA)(P<0.05),IgG(P<0.01),IgM(P<0.05),interleukin-1(IL-1)(P<0.05),IL-4(P<0.05),and IL-10(P<0.05).The broiler chickens in the *** group had higher secretory IgA(SIgA)levels in the duodenum(P<0.01),jejunum(P<0.001),and cecum(P<0.001)than those in the control *** messenger RNA(mRNA)relative expression levels of IL-10(P<0.05)and IL-4(P<0.001)in the intestinal mucosa of chickens were increased,while nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB)(P<0.001)expression was decreased in the *** group compared to the control ***-level analysis revealed Firmicutes as the main phylum,follow
