We present validation between total ozone from satellite and ground-based observations of the Dobson and Brewer spectrometers and ozone radiosonde at Zhongshan and Syowa Antarctic research stations, for September 2004 to March 2009. Results show that mean bias error between Zhongshan （Syowa） and Ozone Monitor Instrument Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer （OMI-TOMS） data are -0.06%＋3.32% （-0.44%：i：2.41%）; between it and OMI Multi Axis Differential Optical Absorption Spec- troscopy （OMI-DOAS） data, the error is -0.34%--4.99% （-0.22%~4.85%）. Mean absolute bias error values of OMI-TOMS data are less than those of OMI-DOAS. This means that total ozone of OMI-TOMS is closer to ground-based observation than that of OMI-DOAS. Comparison between direct observational total ozone of ground-based and integrated ozone from the ozone profile measured by ozone radiosonde shows that ozone amount calculated with the Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet （SBUV） method above balloon burst height is similar to corresponding Microwave Limb Sounder （MLS） data. Therefore, MLS data can be substituted with SBUV data to estimate ozone amount above that level. Mean bias error of the MLS ozone column is 2% compared with the ozonesonde column, with standard deviation within 9.5%. Comparison of different layers from ozone profiler and MLS data indi- cates that at the 215 hPa layer, the MLS ozone value is high, with relative deviation more than 20%. At the 100 hPa and 68 l^Pa layers, the MLS ozone value is also high. This deviation is mainly in spring, during Antarctic ozone hole appearance. In this period, at the height of severe ozone loss, relative deviation of MLS ozone values is especially large.

Boosted by a strong solar power market,the electricity grid is exposed to risk under an increasing share of fluctuant solar *** increase the stability of the electricity grid,an accurate solar power forecast is needed to evaluate such *** terms of forecast,solar irradiance is the key factor of solar power generation,which is affected by atmospheric conditions,including surface meteorological variables and column integrated *** variables involve multiple numerical timeseries and ***,few studies have focused on the processing method of multiple data types in an interhour direct normal irradiance(DNI)*** this study,a framework for predicting the DNI for a 10-min time horizon was developed,which included the nondimensionalization of multiple data types and time-series,development of a forecast model,and transformation of the *** atmospheric variables were considered in the forecast framework,including the historical DNI,wind speed and direction,relative humidity time-series,and ground-based cloud *** were conducted to evaluate the performance of the forecast *** experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs well with a normalized mean bias error of 0.41%and a normalized root mean square error(n RMSE)of20.53%,and outperforms the persistent model with an improvement of 34%in the nRMSE.

Recent Advances in Chinese Meridian Project

To develop an understanding of near-Earth space's response to solar activities and the coupling among different layers in geospace, China has initiated a ground base program to monitor China's geospace environment called the Meridian Space Weather Monitoring Project(Chinese Meridian Project). The effort consists of a chain of 15 ground-based observatories located roughly along 120°E longitude and 30°N latitude. Each observatory is equipped with multiple instruments to measure key parameters such as the baseline and time-varying geomagnetic field, as well as the middle and upper atmosphere and ionosphere from about 20 to 1000 kilometers. This project started collecting data in 2012. We will give a brief introduction to the Chinese Meridian Project, and present recent scientific results mainly in ionospheric and atmospheric studies.

The Meridian Project is a ground- based network program to monitor solar-terrestrial space environment, which consists of a chain of ground-based observatories with multiple instruments including magnetometers, ionosondes, HF and VHF radar, Lidar, IPS monitors, sounding rockets etc. The chain is mainly located in the neighborhood of 120°E meridian, and is thus named the Meridian Project. It has officially been approved by the Chinese government and will be finished by 2009. This talk will give an overview of the Meridian Project and the proposed International Space Weather Meridian Circle Program.

Recent technological advances in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.) phenotyping have offered tools to improve the efficiency of data collection and ***-throughput phenotyping(HTP) is a non-destructive and rapid approach of monitoring and measuring multiple phenotypic traits related to the growth,yield,and adaptation to biotic or abiotic *** have conducted extensive experiments on HTP and developed techniques including spectral,fluorescence,thermal,and three-dimensional imaging to measure the morphological,physiological,and pathological resistance traits of *** addition,ground-based and aerial-based platforms were also developed to aid in the implementation of these HTP *** review paper highlights the techniques and recent developments for HTP in cotton,reviews the potential applications according to morphological and physiological traits of cotton,and compares the advantages and limitations of these HTP systems when used in cotton cropping ***,the use of HTP has generated many opportunities to accurately and efficiently measure and analyze diverse traits of ***,because of its relative novelty,HTP has some limitations that constrains the ability to take full advantage of what it can *** challenges need to be addressed to increase the accuracy and utility of HTP,which can be done by integrating analytical techniques for big data and continuous advances in imaging.

Effect of Terrestrial LiDAR Point Sampling Density in Ephemeral Gully Characterization

Gully erosion can account for significant volumes of sediment exiting agricultural landscapes, but is difficult to monitor and quantify its evolution with traditional surveying technology. Scientific investigations of gullies depend on accurate and detailed topographic information to understand and evaluate the complex interactions between field topography and gully evolution. Detailed terrain representations can be produced by new technologies such as terrestrial LiDAR systems. These systems are capable of collecting information with a wide range of ground point sampling densities as a result of operator controlled factors. Increasing point density results in richer datasets at a cost of increased time needed to complete field surveys. In large research watersheds, with hundreds of sites being monitored, data collection can become costly and time consuming. In this study, the effect of point sampling density on the capability to collect topographic information was investigated at individual gully scale. This was performed through the utilization of semi-variograms to produce overall guiding principles for multi-temporal gully surveys based on various levels of laser sampling points and relief variation (low, moderate, and high). Results indicated the existence of a point sampling density threshold that produces little or no additional topographic information when exceeded. A reduced dataset was created using the density thresholds and compared to the original dataset with no major discrepancy. Although variations in relief and soil roughness can lead to different point sampling density requirements, the outcome of this study serves as practical guidance for future field surveys of gully evolution and erosion.
