This paper investigates the concern that green buildings may promote energy efficiency and other aspects of sustainability,but not necessarily the health and w ell-being of occupants through better indoor air quality( IAQ). We ask ten questions to explore IAQ challenges for green buildings as w ell as opportunities to improve IAQ w ithin green buildings and their programs. Our focus is on IAQ,w hile recognizing that many factors influence human health and the healthfulness of a building. We begin w ith an overview of green buildings,IAQ,and w hether and how green building certifications address ***,w e examine evidence on w hether green buildings have better IAQ than comparable conventional buildings. Then,w e identify so-called green practices and green products that can have unintended and unfavorable effects on IAQ. Looking ahead,w e offer both immediate and longer-term actions,and a set of research questions,that can help green buildings to more effectively promote IAQ. This article supports a grow ing recognition of the importance of IAQ in green buildings,and the opportunities for improvements. As the World green Building Council [95] and others have emphasized,people are the most valuable asset of organizations,and efforts to improve IAQ can improve health,w ell-being,productivity,and profitability.

With the acceleration of global economic development and urbanization,industrial transformation and the outstanding ecological environment problems have made industrial heritage renewal receive more and more *** recent years,the related research conducted from the perspective of green buildings has also become one of the new *** this paper,CiteSpace software was used to make an econometric analysis of the related research in this field from 2004 to 2022 in CNKI database from the number of published papers,keyword clustering and emergentwords,and a knowledge chart was ***,the development process,evolution trend and frontier hot spot of related research were sorted out and *** results show that ① the green renewal of domestic industrial heritage has experienced three stages:embryonic stage,exploration stage and outbreak stage.②The research focuses on experience summary and project practice exploration.③The research hotspots are mainly distributed in the directions of protection strategy,evaluation system construction,green transformation technology,urban renewal,etc.,and the perspective tends to be diversified and presents the trend of multi-disciplinary *** shortcomings of the research are as follows:industrial heritage research and green building research are relatively independent,and no systematic theoretical system of green transformation of industrial heritage has been formed;there is a lack of relatively comprehensive reconstruction evaluation guidelines,andevaluation models of green transformation of industrial heritage at different levels have not been established.

Measuring LEED-NC applicability in design for hospitality

Mounting awareness of climate change in recent years has led the construction industry to initiate new approaches toward sustainable building design, yet stakeholders in hospitality development stilt hesitate to build green. This reluctance is due to perceived high guest expectations of comfort levels and amenity access among these properties. Research was conducted to determine precisely which green building innovations present the most significant barriers to incorporating sustainability into design for hospitality. Average LEED credit imple- mentation rates among 28 existing LEED hotel projects were calculated and compared with average credits employed among common commercial building projects. 15 of those projects＇ designers also offered survey opinions on which sustainable innovations were most commonly avoided in their approaches for hospitality. The results indicate that certain credits do expe- rience decreased popularity among hospitality projects, yet guest comfort was not the only barrier identified. Cost of implementation and local applicability affected by climate and local bylaws were also found as major role players in the selection of credits specific to hospitality design. Conclusions are presented according to the data and recommendations made to support further growth and success in future applications of LEED sustainable design in hospitality.

Growing environmental concerns require efforts for application of sustainability in construction industry. Today, there is an increasing need for sustainable building design. Besides, BIM （building information modeling） is one of the most noteworthy developments in construction industry. BIM is used to make the planning, design, construction, and operation process more integrated. The purpose of this paper is to survey application of BIM in sustainable building design. This exploration is done by reviewing the existing studies in the field of BIM and sustainable design. There have been few attempts to evaluate and analyze the benefits of BIM in sustainable design, and existing researches have not developed integrated analysis to evaluate different aspects of BIM application. In this study, BIM and sustainable design researches are categorized into some major areas. First, frameworks and design strategies for better implementation of sustainable design have been developed. Other application of BIM software is for improving sustainable design in which some case studies have been presented for this purpose. Another major area is focusing on a specific aspect of sustainable buildings such as using natural resources, energy simulation, daylighting analysis and carbon emissions. Scrutiny review of the current studies shows excellent potential for interaction of BIM with sustainable construction.

The ways which are used today in order to light houses, offices, and most of the indoor areas are inefficient as a lot of energy is consumed unnecessarily during the day time. Mainly this problem because the interior lighting design consider the worst case when the light service is at night, which is not always valid. Also in most cases the lighting system design relies on people to control the lights switching on and off. This problem is also one of the design concerns in Green Building. In this paper, a solution to this problem and a method for people’s comfort who use the indoor facilities in industrial buildings is presented. In the proposed smart lighting system, lights switch on automatically when there is somebody in the room or in the occupied space and switch off when there is no occupancy. In addition to this known technique, adjustment of the brightness level of the lights will be possible via the personal computer or any other smart device. In this method, for the illumination level in the area, where is needed to be controlled for better energy saving, the light automatically is measured by the sensor and considering the amount of background lights coming from outside, automatically the brightness of lights is controlled to reach the preset level that determined for that room. The paper starts with background information on value management(VM) in the construction industry and current development situation of the green building industry, and costs and profitability of green buildings. The paper continues with detailed analyses of the findings,covering new developments and perceptions of VM, and applications of VM in the industry. The paper also reports case studies on the practices adopted in the planning and design management phase of SIPO Guangdong Patent Examination Cooperation Center and in the construction management phase of Guangzhou International Bio-Island Standard Property Unit II project. As revealed by the practices, the value-adds and savings in construction costs through the application of VM are important for the developers, and the contributions of VM application in green building projects are significant to achieving the expected targets and to resolving the design and construction challenges encountered in the development of green building industry. And the paper presents, findings on how VM can improve construction management and coordination of several ongoing construction projects and on how VM can be systematically implemented by phases, and discussions on other potential benefits of using VM systems.

Climate change continues to affect the lives of individuals across the world, creating a rise in demand for new technologies that can slow down the impacts of climate change. Shanghai, one of the largest cities in the world, has one of the highest carbon emission levels. In recent years, the research and development of energy-efficient technologies have gained more and more attention. The Shanghai Tower is a pioneer in green building design and a prominent example of Shanghai’s efforts towards low-carbon city development. In this paper, two technologies within the Shanghai Tower—ground source heat pumps (GSHP) and double skin facades (DSF)—will be analyzed. The paper will consist of firstly an investigation of the principles of the technologies, and then analysis, evaluation, and comparison of their respective characteristics. While both GSHP and DSF are used for sustainable purposes, the effectiveness of technologies depends on what environment the technology is used in and what purpose they serve. The evaluation of GSHP and DSF will be based on their performances under Shanghai’s climate and whether they contribute to the purposes of the Shanghai Tower.

Development of a city depends largely on its transportation, and road construction reveals development skeletons of the city. With the aggravation of city pollution, construction of ecological corridor has been put on the agenda of urban ecological construction, against this background, "2 rings and 17 radial lines" of Zhengzhou City were planned. This paper analyzed the plan from the perspectives of role of urban green corridor, planning principle, characteristic building and greening of building facade, and exploration of green corridors integrating pathways, bikeways, bus harbors and green island gas station.
