Herbaceous species contribute to the largest proportion of the *** the profound benefits obtained,anthropogenic disturbances are hindering its *** the other hand,to ensure the sustainability of herbaceous species,communities and governments have been putting efforts in managing herbaceous species through the establishment of area exclosure(AE).Thus,the main importance of this research paper is to provide information about the role of AE on the restoration of herbaceous *** objective of this study was to assess the effect of restoration on the herbaceous species following AE established on communal grazing land(CGL).A total of 124 and 73 quadrats of 1×1m^(2) size were laid down at 50 m intervals along parallel transects at AE and CGL,respectively,and data were analyzed by t-test unequal variances using *** displayed higher plant species richness and diversity than the CGL and showed a significant difference(p<0.001).Similarly,the AE had significantly(p<0.001)higher forage biomass than the *** general,herbaceous species diversity index and species richness were significantly(p<0.001)higher in the AE compared to the *** study concluded that effective AE has the potential to enhance the restoration of herbaceous species and hence forage productivity.

Background:Even though increasing population pressure and associated increased demand for food and economic development have led to overexploitation and degradation of wetlands throughout the world,the drivers are most severe in developing *** generations,Fogera wetlands in Ethiopia which are parts of Lake Tana Biosphere Reserve have been widely used for grazing of indigenous *** cattle are one of several recognized indigenous breeds of Abyssinian zebu bovine cattle(Bos primigenius indicus)found in Fogera district,*** study was conducted to quantify impacts of rice expansion on cattle population in Fogera *** were collected through questionnaire,focus group discussions,interviews,and land use/land cover *** were selected using systematic random *** and LEVENES test were used to analyze the livestock unit and to check ***:The study revealed that during the 20-year period preceding 2015,the number of cattle owned decreased from 3509 to 1510 *** the same period,rice cultivation increased from 182 to 9499 ha and production from 6701 to 714,013 *** lands were reduced from 8550 to 3501 ha,wetlands from 3114 to 1060 ha,and forests from 1542 to 907 *** use/land cover changes showed a negative balance of 40%dry matter requiring cattle feed to be increasingly supplemented through purchases,or reduction in herd *** study also indicated that the land-use changes brought at the expense of traditional cattle production ***:Hence,proper management is required to maintain these valuable resources and keep their role in socioeconomic development of the area.

Soil organic carbon stocks and belowground biomass in patches in heterogeneous grassland

Background:Selective grazing creates stable patches of contrasting sward height,thereby providing different growth conditions for the grass sward above and below ground and potentially affecting soil organic carbon(SOC)*** hypothesized that the presence of patches leads to greater spatial variability in belowground biomass(BGB)and SOC stocks than occurs between pastures managed under different stocking ***:A long-term grazing experiment consisting of three stocking intensities was used for this *** studied BGB,SOC,and soil total nitrogen(Ntot)stocks in the 0-15 cm soil *** diversity of plant species,soil bulk density,soil phosphorus,potassium,and magnesium contents were ***:There were no significant effects of patch or stocking intensity on BGB,SOC,and Ntot *** patches had a greater Shannon diversity than tall patches(p<0.05)and plant-available nutrients in soil correlated positively with sward height(p<0.05).Conclusions:We conclude from the current results and previous studies that higher plant species diversity with lower soil nutrient contents in short-patch areas and higher nutrient contents together with light competition in tall-patch areas might balance each other out with respect to BGB and SOC stocks.
