Regional differences in gully network connectivity based on graph theory:a case study on the Loess Plateau,China

Material exchange frequently occurs in gullies,and thus the relationship between a gullynetwork structure and sediment transport potential has attracted considerable interest.However,previous researches ignored the difficulty of material transport from sources to sinks,and did not quantify the connectivity of a network structure.In this study,we used a graph model structure to model gully networks of six typical sample areas in the Loess Plateau of China and quantified gully network connectivity using four indexes:average node strength,accessibility from sources to sinks,potential flow,and network structural connectivity index.Results show that:(1)Reflected by different quantitative indexes,the trends of gully network connectivity in different regions are similar.From north to south,the connectivity of a sample area first increases and then decreases.(2)The more mature gullies have stronger network connectivity.Small resistance is conducive to material transport in the gullies.(3)The node connectivity index of the gully network shows a significant aggregation distribution in space,and node connectivity on the main channel is often stronger than that on the branch trench.These results not only deepen the understanding of the process and mechanism of loess gully geomorphic development and evolution but also provide a reference for geomorphic studies.

An interactive approach for generating spatial architecture layout based on graph theory

This study proposes a graph theory based method for generating three-dimensional architectural layouts on the target of creating space that provides rich perceptual experience.The proposed approach incorporates the decisions of architects in the generation process to improve efficiency and avoid invalid results.Space is interpreted as a combination of volumes adjacent to,intersecting with or containing each other and is represented by a graph with nodes and edges.The study first generates an orthogonal orientation digraph(OODG),which denotes the relative positions of spaces and provides options for users to decide whether to continue generating the layout.Based on a given OODG,a combination of connected volumes is generated.The generation results show that the proposed method can generate space providing a rich experience when relations between volumes are properly set.

Attacks on the cyber space is getting exponential in recent times.Illegal penetrations and breaches are real threats to the individuals and organizations.Conventional security systems are good enough to detect the known threats but when it comes to Advanced Persistent Threats(APTs)they fails.These APTs are targeted,more sophisticated and very persistent and incorporates lot of evasive techniques to bypass the existing defenses.Hence,there is a need for an effective defense system that can achieve a complete reliance of security.To address the above-mentioned issues,this paper proposes a novel honeypot system that tracks the anonymous behavior of the APT threats.The key idea of honeypot leverages the concepts of graph theory to detect such targeted attacks.The proposed honey-pot is self-realizing,strategic assisted which withholds the APTs actionable tech-niques and observes the behavior for analysis and modelling.The proposed graph theory based self learning honeypot using the resultsγ(C(n,1)),γc(C(n,1)),γsc(C(n,1))outperforms traditional techniques by detecting APTs behavioral with detection rate of 96%.

Structural and functional connectivity of the whole brain and subnetworks in individuals with mild traumatic brain injury:predictors of patient prognosis

Patients with mild traumatic brain injury have a diverse clinical presentation,and the underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood.Magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive technique that has been widely utilized to investigate neuro biological markers after mild traumatic brain injury.This approach has emerged as a promising tool for investigating the pathogenesis of mild traumatic brain injury.G raph theory is a quantitative method of analyzing complex networks that has been widely used to study changes in brain structure and function.However,most previous mild traumatic brain injury studies using graph theory have focused on specific populations,with limited exploration of simultaneous abnormalities in structural and functional connectivity.Given that mild traumatic brain injury is the most common type of traumatic brain injury encounte red in clinical practice,further investigation of the patient characteristics and evolution of structural and functional connectivity is critical.In the present study,we explored whether abnormal structural and functional connectivity in the acute phase could serve as indicators of longitudinal changes in imaging data and cognitive function in patients with mild traumatic brain injury.In this longitudinal study,we enrolled 46 patients with mild traumatic brain injury who were assessed within 2 wee ks of injury,as well as 36 healthy controls.Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging data were acquired for graph theoretical network analysis.In the acute phase,patients with mild traumatic brain injury demonstrated reduced structural connectivity in the dorsal attention network.More than 3 months of followup data revealed signs of recovery in structural and functional connectivity,as well as cognitive function,in 22 out of the 46 patients.Furthermore,better cognitive function was associated with more efficient networks.Finally,our data indicated that small-worldness in the acute stage could serve as a predictor of longitudinal ch

A traditional bottom-up modeling method for minimum configuration numbers is adopted for the study of FPGA minimum configurations. This method is limited ifa large number of LUTs and multiplexers are presented. Since graph theory has been extensively applied to circuit analysis and test, this paper focuses on the modeling FPGA configurations. In our study, an internal logic block and interconnections of an FPGA are considered as a vertex and an edge connecting two vertices in the graph, respectively. A top-down modeling method is proposed in the paper to achieve minimum configuration numbers for CLB and IOB. Based on the proposed modeling approach and exhaustive analysis, the minimum configuration numbers for CLB and IOB are five and three, respectively.

New method for multibody dynamics based on unknown constraint force

This paper presents a new method for the dynamics of multibody systems based on unknown constraint force. The method can uniformly solve multibody systems with typical configurations, including the system with rigid-flexible coupling, the system in tree topology, and the system with loop constraints. Unlike common methods, the proposed method can model the loop system without “cutting off” loop constraints, leading to the exact same modelling process as the tree-like system performs. Based on graph theory, a topological record matrix M_(rec) is proposed to capture the arbitrary system configuration. Moreover, constraint forces are selected as the key variables in semi-recursive framework. With the recursive kinematics relationship between adjacent bodies, the constraint force equation is further assembled to achieve the full-state system solution. The numerical simulations demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method.

A survey on the network models applied in the industrial network optimization

Network architecture design is critical for optimizing industrial networks. Network architectures can be classified into small-scale networks and large-scale networks based on scale. graph theory is an efficient mathematical tool for network topology modeling. For small-scale networks, their structure often has regular topology. For large-scale ones, the current body of work mainly focuses on random characteristics of network nodes and edges. Recently, widely used models include random networks, small-world networks,and scale-free networks. In this study, starting from the scale of the network, network modeling methods based on graph theory as well as their industrial applications, are summarized and analyzed. Moreover, a novel network performance metric, called system entropy, is proposed. From the perspective of mathematical properties, an analysis of its non-negativity and concavity is performed. The advantage of system entropy is that it can cover the existing regular networks, random networks, small-world networks, and scale-free networks, and has strong generality. The simulation results reveal that this proposed metric can achieve the comparison of various industrial networks under different models.

Contingency analysis is an important building block in the stability and reliability analysis of power grid operations. However, due to the large number of transmission lines,in practice only a limited number of contingencies could be evaluated. This paper proposes a graph theory based N-1 contingency selection method to effectively identify the most critical contingencies, which can be used in security-constrained unit commitment(SCUC) problems to derive secure and economic operation decisions of the power grid. Specifically, the power flow transferring path identification algorithm and the vulnerability index are put forward to rank individual contingencies according to potential transmission line overloads. Effectiveness of the proposed N-1 contingency selection method is quantified by applying the corresponding SCUC solution to the full N-1 security evaluation, i. e., quantifying total post-contingency generation-load imbalance in all N-1 contingencies. Numerical results on several benchmark IEEE systems, including5-bus, 24-bus, and 118-bus systems, show effectiveness of the proposed method. Compared with existing contingency selection methods which usually resort to full power flow calculations,the proposed method relies on power gird topology to effectively identify critical contingencies for facilitating the optimal scheduling of SCUC problems.

Detectable states, cycle fluxes, and motility scaling of molecular motor kinesin： An integrative kinetic graph theory analysis

The process by which a kinesin motor couples its ATPase activity with concerted mechanical hand- over-hand steps is a foremost topic of molecular motor physics. Two major routes toward elucidating kinesin mechanisms are the motility performance characterization of velocity and run length, and single-molecular state detection experiments. However, these two sets of experimental approaches are largely uncoupled to date. Here, we introduce an integrative motility state analysis based on a theorized kinetic graph theory for kinesin, which, on one hand, is validated by a wealth of accumulated motility data, and, on the other hand, allows for rigorous quantification of state occurrences and chemomechanical cycling probabilities. An interesting linear scaling for kincsin motility performance across species is discussed as well. An integrative kinetic graph theory analysis provides a powerful tool to bridge motility and state characterization experiments, so as to forge a unified effort for the elucidation of the working mechanisms of molecular motors.

Fault-line selection and fault-type recognition in DC systems based on graph theory

When a fault occurs in a DC system,the fault current rises rapidly with no zero-crossing point which makes fault-line selection and fault-type identification difficult.In this paper,an online detection and protection method based on graph theory,namely the“double D method”,is proposed for fault-line selection and fault-type identification in DC systems.In the proposed method,the entire distribution network is visualized as a“map”with vertices representing the line convergence points and edges representing the connection lines.A network topology matrix“D”is formed by detecting the current directions as the current directions are altered following a fault,whereas the current directions at the ends of non-fault lines remain the same.In order to prevent misjudgment problems arising from power flow reversal,the rates of change of the fault currents are used to further determine whether a fault has occurred and the“double D method”is introduced to identify the fault type.Simulations results with different fault types verify the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method.
