Ultra-high pressure metamorphism of granitic gneiss in the Yinggelisayi area, Altun Mountains, NW China

A study on petrography and mineral chemistry of granitic gneiss from the Yinggeli-sayi area in the Altun Mountains of the northwestern China demonstrates that the granitic gneiss experienced a complicated multi-stage metamorphism. The peak-stage mineral assemblage is garnet+perthite(before exsolution)+titanite(before exsolution)+kyanite+zoisite +quartz/ coesite clinopyroxene with minor apatite and rutile. The exsolution of rod-like plagioclase +amphibole is contained within the core part of coarse-grained titanite, and the Si value per unit formula of the titanite is estimated to be 1.032—1.047, which implies that the titanite contains Si with six-fold coordination and the precursor titanite is hence of supersilicic titanite and suggests that the CaSi2O5 component in the titanite is 3.1%—4.7%. The P-T condition of peak metamorphism is estimated to be 3.7—4.3GPa at 1000. High-Al titanite inclusions are also found in the garnet. All of these suggest that the granitic gneiss underwent UHP metamorphism. The granitic gneiss has SiO2 content (> 70%), Al2O3 (12.58%—14.08%), high K2O content (>5%) with Na2O/K2O ratio of 0.4—0.6, LREE-enriched patterns with (La/Yb)N ratio of 4.3—9.1 and large negative Eu anomaly (d Eu = 0.06—0.59), which indicate that the protolith of the granitic gneiss is the product of anatexis of the middle or upper crustal rock. The UHP granitic gneiss, together with the inter-beds of UHP metamorphic garnet lherzolite and garnet-bearing intermediate-basic gneiss in the outcrops, suggests that they all might undergo continental deep subduction, which will have im-portant bearing for further discussion of the dynamic mechanism of the formation and exhuma-tion of the rocks in this region.

Geochronology and Geochemistry of Li(Be)-Bearing granitic Pegmatites from the Jiajika Superlarge Li-Polymetallic Deposit in Western Sichuan, China

Strategic emerging minerals such as lithium,beryllium,niobium and tantalum are the most important rare metals currently,especially with the increasing demand of emerging industries on rare metals in *** Jiajika deposit with a complete Li-Be-Nb-Ta metallogenic series is the largest pegmatite type rare metal deposit in China at *** this paper,systematic researches of geochronology and petrogeochemistry were carried out to understand the genetic relationships between mineralization and magma evolution in the Jiajika deposit,which might be helpful to further rare-element prospecting in Songpan-Garze *** LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating yields a concordia age of 217±1.1 Ma and a weighted mean 206 Pb/238 U age of 217±0.84 Ma for the aplite from the No.308 *** LA-MC-ICPMS dating yields concordant ages of 211±4.6 Ma for the No.308 pegmatite vein and198±4.4 Ma for the No.133 pegmatite vein,indicating that the rare metal mineralization mainly occurred in the Late Indosinian Period,further suggesting that the granites,aplites and pegmatites in Jiajika formed during a relatively stable stage after the intense orogeny of the Indosinian *** rare metal-bearing granitic rocks and pegmatites show a clear linear relationship between A/CNK and A/NK and are enriched in total alkalis and depleted in CaO,FeO,MnO,MgO,Ba and *** barren rocks and mineralized rocks feature similar rare earth element and trace element geochemical ***,these characteristics indicate that the aplites and pegmatites represent the highly differentiated products of the two-mica granite(MaG)in this area,which is the most likely parent *** the evolution of magma,strong alkali metasomatism occurred between the melt phase and the volatile-rich fluid phase;as a result,large-scale rare metal mineralization occurred in certain structural zones of the pegmatite veins in the Jiajika deposit.

Geochronology and petrogenesis of granitic rocks in Gangdese batholith, southern Tibet

Based on petrological and geochemical characteristics such as rock assemblage, petrogeochemistry, Sr-Nd isotope, zircon U-Pb age, and Hf isotope, we studied geochronological framework, magma types, source characters, and petrogenesis of different stages of magmatism of the granitic rocks from the Gangdese batholith in southern Tibet. The magmatic activities of the Gangdese batholith can be divided into three stages. The Mesozoic magmatism, induced by northern subduction of Neotethyan slab, was continuously developed, with two peak periods of Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous. The Paleocene-Eocene magmatism was the most intensive, and resulted from a complex progress of Neotethyan oceanic slab, including subduction, rollback, and subsequent breakoff. And the Oligocene-Miocene magmatism was attributed to the convective removal of thickened lithosphere in an east-west extension setting after India-Asia collision. Isotopically, zircons from these granitic rocks are characterized by positive εHf(t) values, suggesting that the magmatic source of the Gangdese batholith might be an arc terrane, which was accreted to the southern margin of Asia during Late Paleozoic. Therefore, the chronological framework and Hf isotopic characteristics of the Gangdese batholith are distinct from the granitic rocks in adjacent areas, which can be served as a powerful tracer in studying source-to-sink relation of sediments during the uplift and erosion of Tibetan Plateau.

Paleoproterozoic granitic gneisses of the Dinggye and LhagoiKangri areas from the higher and northern Himalaya,Tibet:Geochronology and implications

granitic gneisses have been widely found in crystalline rocks in the Dinggye area of the Higher Himalaya (HHM) and the LhagoiKangri area of the North Himalaya (NHM), Tibet. In the HHM, the gneisses intruded in the granulite-amphibolite facies metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, known as Nyalam group. In the NHM, the gneisses intruded in the amphibolite facies metamorphosed ones, known as LhagoiKangri group. These granitic gneisses are peraluminous monzonitic granites in terms of their mineral assemblage, and are considered as being derived from metamorphosed sedimentary rocks by anatexis based on the transitional relationship of the gneisses with their migmatitized wall rocks. Zircons are similar in crystal shape and interior structure from both gneisses. Most of them are euhedral or subhedral elongated prism-shaped transparent crystals, with fine oscillatory zoning, showing the magmatic genesis. Some of them are short prism-shaped and with relict core inherited from magma source and oscillatory zoning mantle crystallized from magma. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zicons shows that both the granitic gneisses in the HHM and NHM are Paleoproterozoic (1811.6±2.9 Ma and 1811.7±7.2 Ma, respectively). These ages are similar to those (1815 to 2120 Ma) from granitic gneiss which is widely distributed in the Lesser Himalaya (LHM). The ages of inherited zircons (>2493.9±7.0 Ma, 2095.8± 8.8 Ma, 1874±29 Ma) exhibit the possible presence of several thermal events in Paleoproterozoic. All of the ages suggest the same India basement beneath the different units in Himalaya area, and do not support the idea that the HHM and NHM are accretionary terranes in Pan-Africa orogenic event. The fact that the basement in HHM is as old as or even younger than LHM is inconsistent with the presently prevalent orogenic models such as either extrusion of low-viscosity mid-crust or orogenic channel.

Zircon U-Pb age of granitic gneiss on Duku highway in western Tianshan of China and its geological implications

Granitle gneiss on Duku highway in western Tianshan has been dated by the U-Pb zircon method. When plotted on the concordia diagram, the results give linear data array and the upper intercept age of (882±3)Ma, and the age was considered as the crystallization age of the protolith. granitic gneiss has high ASI value (1.09), high LILE and LREE contents, significantly negative Eu depletion, distinctly negative Ba, Sr, P, Ti and Nb anomalies and indicate continental crust parentage, which is consistent with high initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios value (0.7170) and very negative εNd(t)=-14.1. The protolith magma is interpreted as a product of partial melting of the basement rocks of older basement crust.

STUDY ON THE ISOTOPIC CHRONOLOGY AND THE TECTONIC SIGNIFICANCE OF DUGUER granitic GNEISS IN CENTRAL QIANGTANG, TIBET

Geology setting and petrological features Qiangtang composite plate is located between Xijinwulan—Jinshajiang and Bangonghu—Nujiang suture zones, with the total area of several ten thousand square kilometers. The exposed rocks are mainly Paleozoic, Mesozoic marine sedimentary rocks.. Around Zhabu—Shuanghu area, there exits a post late Triassic uplift, in which middle Devonian low\|intermediate degree metamorphic rocks with solid chronological evidence have been found. However, in central Qiangtang, debate is still there in several aspects, such as there is crystalline basement or not, basement features, and the pre\|Devonian evolution of Qiangtang plate, etc. (Cai Li et al.,1997)Duguer gneiss is the only proved gneiss in Qiangtang region upto now, which is exposed at Duguer mountain (peak, 6208m above sea level), Gaize county, and is confined by faults. An E—W oriented thrust fault zone is its south boundary, which is more than 200m wide and makes the gneiss overthrust on upper Carboniferous strata and Tertiary red beds southwardly. On the east and north sides of the gneiss are upper Carboniferous strata. The gneiss occurs as a triangle form with a long E—W trending bottom line (about 20km) and a height about 10km in S—N direction, which is the main part of Duguer Duguer *** gneiss consists of two rocks types, i.e. granitic gneiss (the dominant component) and amphibole\|plagioclase gneiss. The latter one occurs as a group of nearly E—W trending dikes with clear boundary, which are obviously late basic dikes that intruded into granite. granitic gneiss is composed of porphyroclast granitic gneiss, banded granitic gneiss, gneissoid granite and granitic mylonite. Both granitic and amphibole\|plagioclase gneisses have been undergone same type and same degree metamorphism and deformation. The typical mineral assemblage of the former gneiss include quartz(30%), microcline(25%),plagioclase(30%), two mica (biotite +muscovite,13%) and the accessory minerals such a

THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MABENG granitic INTRUSION AND ITS GENESIS

The Mabeng granitic intrusion, which occurs in the northwestern T-S gold ore field, presents intruive contact with the country rocks. The facies zoining in it is obvious and its mineral components are relatively simple. Its petrochemic characteristics demonstrate that it is hornblende-biotite granite with aluminium-alkali oversaturation, meanwhile its petrogeochemical features show a high gold content with a concentrational coefficient 12. 2. Its REE suggests that its internal different facies are the differentiational products of magma from the same source. All of those support the suggestion that the intrusion is originaly magmatic genesis and belongs io the I-type of granite. The original magma of the body comes from the deep crust or the upper mantle and is highly auriferous.

U-Pb Geochronology of the Jebba granitic Gneiss and Its Implications for the Paleoproterozoic Evolution of Jebba Area, Southwestern Nigeria

Jebba area southwestern Nigeria forms part of the Nigerian basement complex which lies in the Neoproterozoic PanAfrican mobile belt. It is underlain by several lithological units among which is a polydeformed granitic gneiss. This rock has been dated by LA-ICP-MS yielding a concordant U-Pb zircon age of 2207 ± 20 Ma indicating the crystallization age of the granite protolith. This early Rhyacian age and its affinity with within-plate granites indicates emplacement during crustal extension and rifting presceding the main phase of the Eburnean orogeny. The strong, early, shear fabric, S1, in the rock is interpreted to be also of Paleoproterozoic age i.e. imprinted during the Eburnean orogeny. The Jebba granitic gneiss is thus correlatable with the widely abundant Paleoproterozoic granitic magmatism now represented by many orthogneisses and documented in other parts of southwestern Nigeria, the West African craton, the Borborema Province, the Gurupi Belt, Sao Luis craton and Sao Francisco craton in Brazil.
