In 1980, we found a metallic mineral in a Cu-Ni deposit in Xinjiang. After X-ray powder study and microprobe analysis, it proved to be a Ni-bearing new variety of djerfisherite. Until now no report of it has been made in China. The Ni-djerfisherite has metallic lustre, size O.01—0.1mm in diameter, associated with pyrite, pentlandite,chalcopyrite and pyrrhotine, etc. The Ni-djerfisherite is concentrated in pyrrhotine, and is probably a product of pyrrhotine solid-solution decomposition.

Through panicle to panicle inspection at heading stage, six male-sterile rice plants were found in the paddy fields where several varieties were grown from 1964 to 1965 in Hunan Province. The frequency of occurrence of such male-sterile rice plants under natural conditions was estimated to be 0.13 per cent. According to the characteristics of their anthers and pollen grains, these male-sterile plants can be distinguished into three different types: (1) Pollen-free type. Two plants of this type were found to be completely malesterile. Their anthers are smaller and thinner than those of the normal plant as shown in Fig. 1. They are colourless, remain unbroken after flowering, and contain no pollen grains.

The Carbonized rice was discovered at Lilou Village, Ruzhou City, Henan Province in 1993 by scientists of Archaeology Inst, Henan Acad of Social Sciences. The excavations of which are nearly 4,000 years old showed by theC-detect. By using the novel selective washing method, archaeologists unearthed about 100 grains of the carbonized rice which were hardly visible to the naked eyes and spreaded in different strata and doline. Although they were dark in color as a result of the carbonized process, their external morphology remained intact. The longitudinal furrows were recognized clearly on the surfaces of the long round or short round rice grains.
