Retrospective analysis of patients with rare-site and metastatic giant cell tumor

A giant cell tumor occurs mainly in the proximal tibia,humerus,distal radius bone and the pelvic *** is rarely observed in such sites as the ribs and the temporal *** condition is primarily treated with surgical excision and functional *** effect of chemotherapy on lung metastases and locally advanced giant cell tumors has remained *** collected and analyzed the data of six patients with rare giant cell tumors located in the head and neck *** an average follow-up of 42.6 months after surgery （14 to 90 months）,no local recurrence or metastasis was *** also collected and analyzed the data of five patients with metastatic giant cell tumors who were undergoing surgery for the primary tumor before; of three patients who had experienced multiple chemotherapy cycles,one had spontaneous regression,and one survived for long timer despite *** other two patients had their major metastatic lesions resected by surgery,and presented long-term survival during the follow *** addition,this study reports one patient with locally advanced giant cell tumor of the rib,who has undergone successful surgical resection following two cycles of chemotherapy with ifosfamide and liposomal *** resection of the lesion at the head and neck is the key to relapse-free *** prognosis of lung metastases in patients with giant cell tumors is relatively *** chemotherapy is also conducive to the surgery for locally advanced lesions and improvement of the quality of life.

This study aimed at evaluating the possibility and effectiveness of osteoinductive bioceramics to fill the tumor cavity following the curettage of sacral giant cell tumor(GCT).Six patients(four females and two males,25–45 years old)underwent nervesparing surgery,in which the tumor was treated by denosumab,preoperative arterial embolization and extensive *** remaining cavity was filled with commercial osteoinductive calcium phosphate(CaP)bioceramics,whose excellent osteoinductivity was confirmed by intramuscular implantation in beagle *** patients were followed by computed tomography(CT)scans *** to the modified Neer criterion,five cases obtained Type I healing status,and one case had Type *** the latest follow-up,no graft-related complications and local recurrence were *** CT scan indicated a median time of healing initiation of 3months postoperatively,and the median time for relatively complete healing was *** excellent bone regenerative ability of the ceramics was also confirmed by increased CT attenuation value,blurred boundary and cortical rim *** conclusion,osteoinductive CaP bioceramics could be an ideal biomaterial to treat the large remaining cavity following extensive curettage of sacral ***,further investigation with more cases and longer follow-up was required to confirm the final clinical effect.

giant cell tumor is a benign primary bone tumor. The phalangeal localization is rare. It is distinguished from other locations by the local aggressiveness of the tumor and a high rate of recurrence. We report one case of a 25-year-old right-handed nurse with no reported pathological history who complained about an ulcero-budding mass of the right little finger evolving one year ago. She would have initially consulted a bonesetter who would have taken care of her by using decoctions. The hand X-ray showed an osteolytic tumor of the first phalanx of the right little finger with a “honeycomb” appearance invading the soft tissues. We carried out the amputation of the radius. The postoperative course was simple with healing of the surgical wound and disappearance of the axillary adenopathy. The surgical specimen after anatomopathology exam concluded to be a grade 2 giant cell tumor of Senerkin.

Giant cell tumor of the wrist is a rare, benign and usually symptomatic condition. The discovery is sometimes made following a medical imaging examination or a painful symptomatology or more often a visible or palpable swelling with or without vascular and/or nerve compression. At an advanced stage, the X-ray is of paramount importance. The well codified complete surgical resection is part of the therapeutic arsenal. We present a clinical case report of a young woman with a giant cell tumor localized in the wrist in N’Djamena, Chad. This case concerns a 25-year-old patient who presented in July 2020 of a painful swelling lateral to her left wrist bone and whose X-ray radiography showed lysis of the cortical bone in the lower third of the ulna. After the operative resection of the tumor mass, the pathological examination of the operative specimen revealed the diagnosis of a giant cell tumor. A giant cell tumor is a benign condition, with a few symptoms and the location at the ulna is exceptional. Complete surgical resection is a viable treatment option.

tumor at the site of total hip arthroplasty （THA） is a rare event. There have been 46 cases of malignant tumors at the site of total hip prosthesis since 1974. Among them, there were 41 sarcomas, 4 lymphomas and 1 epidermoid. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma was the most common （20 cases） followed by osteosarcoma （9 cases）. Here we report a case of a giant cell tumor combined with an aneurysmal bone cyst 3 years after an aluminum oxide ceramic THA.

Subchondral bone grafting reduces degenerative change of knee joint in patients of giant cell tumor of bone

Background giant cell tumors （GCTs） most commonly occur around the *** most beneficial procedure for this disease has been extensive curettage with ***,since many GCTs may compromise the subchondral bone,surgery can further jeopardize the articular cartilage and result in secondary *** this study,we aimed to determine the factors associated with the development of degenerative arthritis and the effect of bone grafting on the prevention of secondary *** We retrospectively analyzed 76 patients with GCT around the *** mean age at first diagnosis was 31.1 *** treatments included extensive curettage and cementation with or without bone grafting in the subchondral *** follow-up was a median duration of 35 months,ranging from 18 to 113 *** The local recurrence rate was 5.3％（4/76）.Secondary degenerative changes occurred in 30.3％（23/76） of the *** than 10 mm of the residual thickness of the remaining subchondral bone was correlated with secondary degenerative changes in 57 patients （P ＜0.001）.Of these 57 patients,56.5％（13/23） treated with bone cement reconstruction alone developed secondary degenerative changes; following bone grafting,the rate decreased to 29.4％（10/34）,with a statistically significant difference （P=0.041）.Conclusions GCT patients with less residual thickness of the subchondral bone are more likely to develop degenerative arthritis after *** grafting in the subchondral bone area is recommended when the residual thickness of the subchondral bone is less than 10 mm.
