Dry rice seeds(Oryza sativa,subspecies indica)were sandwiched between nuclear track detectors,aboard the Chinese spaceship Shenzhou-3 for seven *** seeds were recovered and the genomic polymorphism in 201 plants developed from these seeds was studied using random amplified polymorphism DNA *** compared with plants from ground-based control seeds,the genomic polymorphic bands were amplified in 30.2%of the plants from the seeds exposed in *** results for sequencing and SNP analyses of the polymorphic bands verified the single nucleotide variations in these *** poly-morphisms in the consecutive generations of individual plants of the seeds from space were also *** seeds receiving hits of HZE(high atomic number and high energy)particles from space were selected for further analyses and variable genomic polymorphisms were detected in all plants that developed from these *** them,the embryos of three seeds were hit at least once,and mutants with significant changes in agronomic traits were only found in later generations of these *** result implies that the HZE particles of space are effective in inducing the changes of plant genome of inherited phenotypes.

Protein Subcellular Localization Prediction and genomic polymorphism Analysis of the SARS Coronavirus

The cause of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has been identified as a new coronavi-rus (CoV). Several sequences of the complete genome of SARS-CoV have been determined. The subcellu-lar localization (SubLocation) of annotated open-reading frames of the SARS-CoV genome was predicted using a support vector machine. Several gene products were predicted to locate in the Golgi body and cell nucleus. The SubLocation information was combined with predicted transmembrane information to develop a model of the viral life cycle. The results show that this information can be used to predict the functions of genes and even the virus pathogenesis. In addition, the entire SARS viral genome sequences currently available in GenBank were compared to identify the sequence variations among different isolates. Some variations in the Hong Kong strains may be related to the special clinical manifestations and provide clues for understanding the relationship between gene functions and evolution. These variations reflect the evolu-tion of the SARS virus in human populations and may help development of a vaccine.

Background Human papillomavirus(HPV) 52 is an oncogenic HPV type prevalent in *** aim of this studies was to analyze HPV52 genetic variations in women from Northeast China Methods To explore intratypic variants of HPV 52,the genomic regions of L1,E6,E7,and long control region (LCR) of HPV 52,which have been identified in women from Northeast China by HPV GenoArray test,were analyzed. Twenty-five mutations were identified in the regions examined. Results Of the mutations found in the L1 gene,3 novel mutations of C5640T,A5641T and G5642A were located within the region that encodes the binding domain of neutralizing antibodies against HPV 52 *** 4 variations were identified in HPV 52 E6 and E7 genes,no significant association was found between the mutations and the cytological lesion of the *** mutations including CTT7681-7683 deletion found in the LCR of HPV 52 encompassed the known transcription binding sites,which may possibly affect the transcription of the oncogenic genes of E6 and *** most prevalent HPV 52 variants in Chinese northeastern women belongs to clade L1-LN-A. Conclusions The genetic variations of HPV 52 were first documented in this report in Northeast *** genomic characterization of HPV 52 variants is crucial for understanding the intrinsic geographical relatedness and biological difference of the virus,and contributes further to studies on their infectivity and pathogenicity.

The distinct morphological phenotypes of Southeast Asian aborigines are shaped by novel mechanisms for adaptation to tropical rainforests

Southeast Asian aborigines, the hunter-gatherer populations living in tropical rainforests, exhibit distinct morphological phenotypes, including short stature, dark skin, curly hair and a wide and snub nose. The underlying genetic architecture and evolutionary mechanism of these phenotypes remain a long-term mystery. We conducted whole genome deep sequencing of 81 Cambodian aborigines from eight ethnic groups. Through a genome-wide scan of selective sweeps, we discovered key genes harboring Cambodian-enriched mutations that may contribute to their phenotypes, including two hair morphogenesis genes(TCHH and TCHHL1), one nasal morphology gene(PAX3) and a set of genes(such as ENTPD1-AS1) associated with short stature. The identified new genes and novel mutations suggest an independent origin of the distinct phenotypes in Cambodian aborigines through parallel evolution, refuting the long-standing argument on the common ancestry of these phenotypes among the worldwide rainforest hunter-gatherers. Notably, our discovery reveals that various types of molecular mechanisms, including antisense transcription and epigenetic regulation, contribute to human morphogenesis, providing novel insights into the genetics of human environmental adaptation.

Isolation of Microsatellite DNA and Preliminary genomic Analysis of Mud Carp (Cirrhina molitorella)

In order to determine the applicability of microsatellite primers developed from common carp （ Cyprinuscario ） for genomic analysis in mud carp （ Cirrhina molitorella ）, 24 primer pairs from common carp were designed to amplify microsatellite loci in the mud carp containing CA, GA, AT and GGGA sequences. Thirteen primers （54%） successfully amplified specific products in the mud carp and 11 primers （48%） showed high polymorphism in the mud carp population. The results indicated that the average number of alleles per locus in the mud carp stocks was 5.2. Average heterozygosity （Ho）, unbiased expected heterozygosity （He） and polymorphism information content （PIC） in the wild population were 0.61 ± 0.2, 0.8 ± 0.09 and 0.72 ± 0.1 respectively. Several Hardy-Weinberg departure value were significandy departed from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The study showed that microsatellite primers from a species of Cyprinidae can be used for mud carp genetic analysis without much cost or time input.
