Seasonal variation of melatonin secretion across various segments of the gastrointestinal tract in rats

Objective To investigate whether melatonin(MT)secretion in different parts of the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)exhibits seasonal variations and its correlation with immune *** Sixty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into control and model groups,and the pineal gland was removed in the model ***,jejunum,ileum,and colon tissues were obtained during the spring equinox,summer solstice,beginning of autumn,autumn equinox,and winter *** levels of MT,MT receptors(MR),arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase(AANAT),hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase(HIOMT),interleukin-2(IL-2),and interleukin-10(IL-10)in the GIT were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** Except for the stomach,the jejunum,ileum,and the colon showed seasonal tendencies in MT *** the control group,MT secretion in the jejunum and ileum was the highest in the long summer,and colonic MT secretion was the highest in *** the model group,MT levels in the colon were highest in the *** seasonal rhythms of the MR,AANAT,HIOMT,IL-2,and IL-10 in the colon were roughly similar to those of MT,and changed accordingly after *** gastrointestinal MT secretion is related to seasonal changes,and MT secretion in each intestinal segment is influenced by different *** biological effects of MT in the gut are inextricably linked to the mediation of MR,and a hormone-receptor linkage exists between MT and *** effect of seasonal changes on the gastrointestinal immune system may be mediated through the regulation of seasonal secretion of MT.

Endoscopic resection for calcifying fibrous tumors of the gastrointestinal tract

BACKGROUND Calcifying fibrous tumors(CFTs)are rare mesenchymal lesions that can occur in various sites throughout the body,including the tubular gastrointestinal(GI)*** To analyze the clinical findings of 36 patients with GI tract CFTs to provide guidance for diagnosis and *** This retrospective study included 36 patients diagnosed with CFTs of the GI *** collected demographic and clinical information and conducted regular follow-ups to assess for local *** The stomach was the most commonly involved site,accounting for 72.2%of the 36 *** mucosal resection(n=1,2.8%),endoscopic submucosal dissection(n=14,38.9%),endoscopic full-thickness resection(n=16,44.4%),and submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection(n=5,13.9%)were used to resect calcifying fibrous ***,34(94.4%)CFTs underwent complete endoscopic resections with a mean procedure time of 39.8±29.8 *** average maximum diameter of the tumors was 10.6±4.3 *** complications,such as bleeding or perforation,occurred during an average hospital stay of 2.9±1.2 *** addition,two patients developed new growth of CFTs near the primary tumor sites,and none of the patients developed distant metastases during the follow-up *** GI tract CFTs are rare and typically benign tumors that can be effectively managed with endoscopic procedures.

Automatic gastrointestinal(GI)tract disease recognition is an important application of biomedical image ***,microscopic analysis of pathological tissue is used to detect abnormal areas of the GI *** procedure is subjective and results in significant inter-/intraobserver variations in disease ***,a huge frame rate in video endoscopy is an overhead for the pathological findings of gastroenterologists to observe every frame with a detailed ***,there is a huge demand for a reliable computer-aided diagnostic system(CADx)for diagnosing GI tract *** this work,a CADx was proposed for the diagnosis and classification of GI tract diseases.A novel framework is presented where preprocessing(LAB color space)is performed first;then local binary patterns(LBP)or texture and deep learning(inceptionNet,ResNet50,and VGG-16)features are fused serially to improve the prediction of the abnormalities in the GI ***,principal component analysis(PCA),entropy,and minimum redundancy and maximum relevance(mRMR)feature selection methods were analyzed to acquire the optimized characteristics,and various classifiers were trained using the fused ***-source color image datasets(KVASIR,NERTHUS,and stomach ULCER)were used for performance *** study revealed that the subspace discriminant classifier provided an efficient result with 95.02%accuracy on the KVASIR dataset,which proved to be better than the existing state-of-the-art approaches.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the system of organs within multi-cellular animals that takes in food, digests it to extract energy and nutrients, and expels the remaining waste. The various patterns of GI tract function are generated by the integrated behaviour of multiple tissues and cell types. A thorough study of the GI tract requires understanding of the interactions between cells, tissues and gastrointestinal organs in health and disease. This depends on knowledge, not only of numerous cellular ionic current mechanisms and signal transduction pathways, but also of large scale GI tissue structures and the special distribution of the nervous network. A unique way of coping with this explosion in complexity is mathematical and computational modelling; providing a computational framework for the multilevel modelling and simulation of the human gastrointestinal anatomy and physiology. The aim of this review is to describe the current status of biomechanical modelling work of the GI tract in humans and animals, which can be further used to integrate the physiological, anatomical and medical knowledge of the GI system. Such modelling will aid research and ensure that medical professionals benefit, through the provision of relevant and precise information about the patient's condition and GI remodelling in animal disease models. It will also improve the accuracy and efficiency of medical procedures, which could result in reduced cost for diagnosis and treatment.

BACKGROUND Radiofrequency ablation(RFA)and microwave ablation(MWA)represent the standard of care for patients with early hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)who are unfit for *** incidence of reported adverse events is low,ranging from 2.4%to 13.1%for RFA and from 2.6%to 7.5%for *** tract(GIT)injury is even more infrequent(0.11%),but usually requires surgery with an unfavourable *** to its low incidence and the retrospective nature of the studies,the literature reporting this feared complication is heterogeneous and in many cases lacks information on tumour characteristics,comorbidities and treatment *** SUMMARY A 77-year-old man who had undergone extended right hepatectomy for HCC was diagnosed with early disease recurrence with a small nodule compatible with HCC in the Sg4b segment of the liver with a subcapsular *** was treated with percutaneous RFA and a few week later he was urgently admitted to the Surgery ward for abdominal pain and fever.A subcutaneous abscess was diagnosed and treated by percutaneous drainage.A fistulous tract was then documented by the passage of contrast material from the gastric antrum to the abdominal *** oesophagogastroduodenoscopy confirmed a circular wall defect at the lesser curvature of gastric antrum, leading directly to the purulentabdominal collection. An over-the-scope clip (OTSC) was used to successfullyclose the defectCONCLUSIONThis is the first reported case of RFA-related GIT injury to have been successfullytreated with an OTSC, which highlights the role of this endoscopic treatment forthe management of this complication.

An optimally functioning gastrointestinal tract(GIT) clearly is of importance to the overall metabolism,physiology, disease status and performance of pigs of all stages of growth and ***, the‘health’ of the GIT(‘gut health’) has attracted much attention despite the lack of a clear definition to the term or its aetiology, although in broad terms, ‘gut health’ encompasses a number of physiological and functional features including nutrient digestion and absorption, host metabolism and energy generation, a stable and appropriate microbiota/microbiome, defence mechanisms including barrier function and mucosal immune mechanisms, and the interactions between these components.‘Gut health’ in the newlyweaned(young) pig is of obvious interest due to changes in GIT structure and function associated with the post-weaning transition, and more recently to the upsurge in interest in different feed additives as dietary alternatives/replacements caused by bans/reductions in certain antimicrobial compounds being available in some parts of the *** the presence of enteric disease(s) after weaning, a deterioration in ‘gut health’ may be synonymous to the overall health of the pig, and although some direct relationships can be drawn between pig performance and efficiency and a ‘healthy' GIT, sometimes this connection is subtler and less obvious, especially in the absence of overt enteric disease(s).The factors and conditions involved in ‘gut health’ are multifactorial, complex, often poorly described and sometimes incorrectly interpreted,although it is evident that perturbations of the GIT can cause an imbalance and disturb the generalized *** addition to any enteric diseases or conditions that might arise as a result of these disturbances, other influences will also impact such as the responses occurring in the GIT in the period immediately after weaning, any changes that might occur after a change in diet, and(or) disruptions to meal patterns and hence

Immunocytochemical Identification and Localization of Diffuse Neuroendocrine System (DNES) Cells in gastrointestinal tract of Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)

To detect distribution and relative frequency of diffuse neuroendocrine system （DNES） cells in the gastrointestinal tract of channel catfish （lctalurus punctatus）, the intestinal tract of channel catfish was divided into seven portions from proximal to distal： the enlarged area after oesophagus, cardia, fundus, pylorus, and anterior, middle, and posterior intestine. Immunohistochemical method using the strept avidin-biotin-complex （SABC） was employed. All antisera between seven portions of the channel catfish were compared statistically using statistical package for the social science （SPSS）. Five types of DNES ceils were determined： neuropeptide Y-immunoreactive （NPY-IR） cells were demonstrated in both anterior and middle intestine; serotonin （5-HT） immunoreactive cells were detected throughout the whole gastrointestinal tract; vasoactive intestinal peptide （VIP） positive cells were at the highest frequency in pylorus; glucagon-immunoreactive （GLU-IR） cells were moderate in number in the fundus and anterior, middle intestine, and no immunoreactivity was determined in the other portions; somatostatin （SOM） positive cells were more abundant in the anterior and middle intestine. The regional distribution and relative frequency of immunoreactive cells in the channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, are essentially similar to those of other fish. However, some characteristics are observed in this species, which further proved that the diversity of the physiological function of DNES cells was based on their morphology.
