In this paper, the isogeometric analysis (IGA) is employed to develop an acoustic radiation model for a double plate-acoustic cavity coupling system, with a focus on analyzing the sound transmission loss (STL). The functionally graded (FG) plate exhibits a different material properties in-plane, and the power-law rule is adopted as the governing principle for material mixing. To validate the harmonic response and demonstrate the accuracy and convergence of the isogeometric modeling, ANASYS is utilized to compare with numerical examples. A plane wave serves as the acoustic excitation, and the Rayleigh integral is applied to discretize the radiated plate. The STL results are compared with the literature, confirming the reliability of the coupling system. Finally, the investigation is conducted to study impact of cavity depth and power-law parameter on the STL.

functionally graded materials, including their characterization, properties and production methods are a new rapidly developing field of materials science. The aims of this review are to systematize the basic production techniques for manufacturing functionally graded materials. Attention is paid to the principles for obtaining graded structure mainly in the metal based functionally graded materials. Several unpublished results obtained by the authors have been discussed briefly. Experimental methods and theoretical analysis for qualitative and quantitative estimation of graded properties have also been presented. The article can be useful for people who work in the field of functionally graded structures and materials, and who need a compact informative review of recent experimental and theoretical activity in this area.

An accurate evaluation of strongly singular domain integral appearing in the stress representation formula is a crucial problem in the stress analysis of functionally graded materials using boundary element *** solve this problem,a singularity separation technique is presented in the paper to split the singular integral into regular and singular parts by subtracting and adding a singular *** singular domain integral is transformed into a boundary integral using the radial integration *** expressions of the radial integrals are obtained for two commonly used shear moduli varying with spatial *** regular domain integral,after expressing the displacements in terms of the radial basis functions,is also transformed to the boundary using the radial integration ***,a boundary element method without internal cells is established for computing the stresses at internal nodes of the functionally graded materials with varying shear modulus.

In this paper, the dynamic interaction of two parallel cracks in functionally graded materials （FGMs） is investigated by means of the non-local theory. To make the analysis tractable, the shear modulus and the material density are assumed to vary exponentially with the coordinate vertical to the crack. To reduce mathematical difficulties, a one-dimensional non-local kernel is used instead of a twodimensional one for the dynamic problem to obtain stress fields near the crack tips. By use of the Fourier transform, the problem can be solved with the help of two pairs of dual integral equations, in which the unknown variables are the jumps of displacements across the crack surfaces. To solve the dual integral equations, the jumps of displacements across the crack surfaces are expanded in a series of Jacobi polynomials. Unlike the classical elasticity solutions, it is found that no stress singularity is present at the crack tips. The non-local elastic solutions yield a finite hoop stress at the crack tips. The present result provides theoretical references helpful for evaluating relevant strength and preventing material failure of FGMs with initial cracks. The magnitude of the finite stress field depends on relevant parameters, such as the crack length, the distance between two parallel cracks, the parameter describing the FGMs, the frequency of the incident waves and the lattice parameter of materials.

This paper describes a new two-dimensional(2-D)control volume finite element method(CV-FEM)for transient heat conduction in multilayer functionally graded materials(FGMs).To deal with the mixed-grid problem,9-node quadrilateral grids and 6-node triangular grids are *** unknown temperature and material properties are stored at the *** using quadratic triangular grids and quadratic quadrilateral grids,the present method offers greater geometric flexibility and the potential for higher accuracy than the linear *** properties of the FGMs are described by exponential,quadratic and trigonometric grading *** numerical tests are studied to demonstrate the performance of the developed ***,the present CV-FEM with mixed high-order girds provides a higher accuracy than the linear CV-FEM based on the same grid ***,the material properties defined location is proved to have a significant effect on the accuracy of the numerical ***,the present method provides better numerical solutions than the conventional FEM for the FGMs in conjunction with course high-order ***,the present method is also capable of analysis of transient heat conduction in multilayer FGM.

The analytical solution for an annular plate rotating at a constant angular velocity is derived by means of direct displacement method from the elasticity equations for axisymmetric problems of functionally graded transversely isotropic media. The displacement components are assumed as a linear combination of certain explicit functions of the radial coordinate, with seven undetermined coefficients being functions of the axial coordinate z. Seven equations governing these z-dependent functions are derived and solved by a progressive integrating scheme. The present solution can be degenerated into the solution of a rotating isotropic functionally graded annular plate. The solution also can be degenerated into that for transversely isotropic or isotropic homogeneous materials. Finally, a special case is considered and the effect of the material gradient index on the elastic field is illustrated numerically.

The microstructure and composition of TiC-A12O3/Fe functionally graded materials (FGM) prepared by self-propagating high temperature synthesis and pseudo-hot isostatic pressing (SHS/ PHIP) were studied, and the resisting thermal shock behaviors were analyzed. The results show that TiC-A12O3/Fe FGM has graded composition distribution. No cross-section crack through the layers was found in the tests of thermal shock and fatigue.

A generalized form of material gradation applicable to a more broad range of functionally graded materials(FGMs) was *** the material model,analytical expressions of crack tip higher order stress fields in a series form for opening mode and shear mode cracks under quasi-static loading were developed through the approach of asymptotic ***,a numerical experiment was conducted to verify the accuracy of the developed expressions for representing crack tip stress fields and their validity in full field data analysis by using them to extract the stress intensity factors from the results of a finite element analysis by local collocation and then comparing the estimations with the existing *** expressions show that nonhomogeneity parameters are embedded in the angular functions associated with higher terms in a recursive manner and at least the first three terms in the expansions must be considered to explicitly account for material nonhomogeneity effects on crack tip stress fields in the case of *** numerical experiment further confirms that the addition of the nonhomogeneity specific terms in the expressions not only improves estimates of stress intensity factor,but also gives consistent estimates as the distance away from the crack tip ***,the analytical expressions are suitable for the representation of crack tip stress fields and the analysis of full field data.
