A strong cold frontal process is simulated by the model. Comparison of the simulated results of this process with different models shows that the result of this model is prior to that of others and that it is necessary to increase the vertical resolution and to take account of the physical processes in the boundary layer.

PFS-Fuzzy classification ( Lu, 1989) was used on observational data obtained during a cruise (July-August> 1987)to classify the water masses in the source area of the Tsushima Warm Current. Their mixing features were studied by using numerical index analysis of fuzzy sets. The calculated results showed there are nine water masses belonging to three basic types.The analyses suggest that, though, in summer, the Surface Water of the Tsushima Warm Current located in a strongly mixed area is a mixture of the East China Sea Mixed Water, the Kuroshio Surface Water and the Kyushu Western Coastal Water, it originates mainly from the Kuroshio Surface Water and its deep water comes from the Kuroshio Subsurface Water. This study reveals that 1) regions such as the intensely mixed region, the frontal zone and the transition zone, Water, it originates deep water comes from water, usually have a higher fuzzy degree ; 2) water masses with higher stability and little modification have a lower fuzzy degree ; and 3)

THE DIFFERENCE IN EEG THETA WAVES BETWEEN CONCENTRATIVE AND NON-CONCENTRATIVE QIGONG STATES -A Power Spectrum and Topographic Mapping Study

Objective:Severe frontal comminuted depressed skull fractures needs special attention due to complications and esthetics.The optimal method of reconstruction and fixation of frontal bone fragments remains a matter of discussion.We explored the advantages of reconstruction of frontal bone with titanium clamps as soon as possible after trauma.Patients and methods:From May 2006 to September 2011 we performed 18craniotomies with titanium clamps to fix the cranial fragments.On the beginning of craniotomy,single window craniotomy(n=11)and two windows craniotomy(n=9)were designed.After dural closure and frontobasal reconstruction,these fragments were fixed with titanium clamps.A helical CT-scan was obtained after operation and a three dimensional technique was performed to evaluate the postoperative results.Results:The craniofix titanium clamp system was applied in 18 patients.No intraoperative and postoperative complications related to clamps were observed.The number of bone fragments ranged from 2 to 5(average 3.3 pieces)while the number of clamps ranged from 3 to 8(average 5.8).The time of refixation ranged from 5 to 17minutes with average 9.4 minutes.Obvious statistical significance(p=0.015)was found in postoperative CT-scan results between single window group and two windows group,although it is no statistical difference in intraoperative subjective valuation(p>0.05).In all 18 cases,the alignment of fragments was precise,the fixation rigid,and the esthetic result satisfying.Conclusions:Reconstruction forehead by refixation of bone fragments with titanium clamps in frontal depressed skull fractures is safe and suitable.This technique promises to be a good alternative in the repair of frontal comminuted depressed skull fractures.The simplicity,reliable fixation and fast handling are its prominent features.

The differences in EEG theta waves between concentrative and non--concentrative Qigong stateswere studied by means of power spectrum analysis and EEG mapping. The adult subjects in-cluded 20 practitioners of concentrative Qigong, 30 Practitioners of non--concenthetive Qigongand 23 control subjects. The results showed frontal mid--line theta rhythm was related toconcentrative Qigong state. As the theta rhythm has been suggested to be one of the normal EEGPatterns occurring in mental concentration,it is concluded that the theta rhythm is an indicatorof mental concentration during Qigong state. This finding clarifies the implication of the thetarhythms appearing in Qigong and other meditation.

Sleep and epilepsy are two well recognized conditions that interact with each other in a complex bi-directional way. Some types of epilepsies have increased activity during sleep disturbing it; while sleep deprivation aggravates epilepsy due to decreased seizure threshold. Epilepsy can deteriorate the sleep-related disorders and at the same time; the parasomnias can worsen the epilepsy. The secretion of sleep-related hormones can also be affected by the occurrence of seizures and supplementation of epileptic patients with some of these sleep-related hormones may have a beneficial role in controlling epilepsy.

Effects of digital acupressure on the blood flowin the capillary arterioles of the cerebral pia matercovering the posterior sigmoidal gyrus in domesticdog(Canis familiaris)were observed.The speed ofblood flow was found increased to 185% after con-tinuous digital acupressure for 20 minutes.The in-crease was most prominent 15 minutes after the acu-pressure was completed;the effect subsided in 30minutes.It was also found that in cases of low basalspeed of flow before digital acupressure,the increasein the speed of blood flow after acupressure was morepronounced.
