Flexible and Accurate frequency estimation for Complex Sinusoid Signal by Interpolation Using DFT Samples

A flexible and accurate frequency estimator is first proposed for frequency estimation of a complex sinusoid weighted with a rectangular window function in additive white Gaussian noise. This proposed frequency estimator can be operated in the application of an arbitrary length discrete Fourier transform where the original input data is padded with any zeroes, which makes it more flexible in practice. The proposed frequency estimator utilizes the maximum sample value and its two adjacent samples in the frequency domain to perform the fine frequency estimation with unbiased results obtained. Then a modified frequency estimator is proposed to estimate the frequency when the complex sinusoid signal is weighted with different nonrectangular window functions. Although the modified frequency estimator is nonanalytic and biased, it can still improve the estimation performance for certain applications. Simulation results demonstrate that both of the proposed frequency estimators are effective to achieve the high frequency estimation accuracy. And the root mean square errors of the proposed frequency estimators approach the Cramer-Rao bound when the signal-to-noise ratio is large enough to make the coarse frequency estimation work effectively.

In this paper,a sinusoidal signal frequency estimation algorithm is proposed by weighted least square *** on the idea of Provencher,three biggest Fourier coefficients in the maximum periodogram are considered,the Fourier coefficients can be written as three equations about the amplitude,phase,and frequency,and the frequency is estimated by solving *** of the error of measurement,weighted least square method is used to solve the frequency equation and get the signal *** is shown that the proposed estimator can approach the Cramer-Rao Bound(CRB)with a low Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR)threshold and has a higher accuracy.

The high-accuracy, wide-range frequency estimation algorithm for multi-component signals presented in this paper, is based on a numerical differentiation and central Lagrange interpolation. With the sample sequences, which need at most 7 points and are sampled at a sample frequency of 25600 Hz, and computation sequences, using employed a formulation proposed in this paper, the frequencies of each component of the signal are all estimated at an accuracy of 0.001% over 1 Hz to 800 kHz with the amplitudes of each component of the signal varying from 1 V to 200 V and the phase angle of each component of the signal varying from 0° to 360°. The proposed algorithm needs at most a half cycle for the frequencies of each component of the signal under noisy or non-noisy conditions. A testing example is given to illustrate the proposed algorithm in Matlab environment.

A method of high resolution frequency estimation based on a single vector sensor using ESPRIT （Estimating Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques） algorithm is proposed and applied to the underwater acoustic （UWA） communication system of frequency modulation. Higher resolution frequency estimation can be obtained by this algorithm using fewer snapshots comparing with the sound intensity frequency estimation. Results of simulation and lake experiment show that the proposed algorithm can improve the communication data rate and reduce the bandwidth of the system. The carrier frequency estimation algorithm based on high-order cyclic cumulants does not need a training sequence. Due to the fact that the high-order cycle can suppress the stationary and non-stationary Gaussian noise, the algorithm is tolerant to the noise mentioned above. The computation of the algorithm is deduced in this paper. It shows that if large searching range of carrier frequency and high frequency resolution are required, the computation will be great. In order to solve the conflict between the high-performance and the computation, an algorithm which combine the Rife algorithm and high-order cyclic cumulants is introduced in this paper. The simulations show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can reduce the computation considerably, as the performance of frequency estimation is hardly changed.
