Prospective Study and Physico-Mechanical Characterisation of Granular Materials Used in the Manufacture of Ordinary Concrete in Congo

This research is an experimental study aimed at identifying and determining the physico-mechanical properties of various granular materials used in current concretes based on local aggregates (sands, gravels) from different quarries, highlighting their intrinsic properties. The aim was also to test their specific influence on the cementitious matrix of hardened concrete. Several laboratory tests were conducted on samples from Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire. To develop a variety of concrete formulations meeting rheological criteria (deformability, bleeding, segregation) and create an optimal concrete formulation approach considering its microstructural and compacting matrix, a good granular distribution was planned, using two types of sand (rolled and crushed). This involved correcting the rolled sand with variable proportions (30% to 50%) of crushed sand. The results from the eight concrete formulations studied, using the Dreux-Gorisse method, showed that six formulations produced the expected results. Compressive strengths at 28 days ranged from 25 to 36.75 MPa. As a result, formulation 3 appears to be the best, with a mechanical strength of 36.75 MPa at 28 days, compared to formulation 1 (33.75 MPa), formulation 4 (27.25 MPa), and formulation 2 (26.65 MPa) for the Brazzaville locality. For the Pointe-Noire locality, formulation 8 was judged the best, with a characteristic mechanical strength of 29.70 MPa at 28 days, followed by formulation 7 (27.30 MPa), formulation 5 (22.80 MPa), and formulation 6 (18.30 MPa). In summary, the concretes formulated with raw sand showed better results than those with improved sands. The same was true for concrete formulations using rolled sand and gravel.

Machine Learning in Predicting Printable Biomaterial formulations for Direct Ink Writing

Three-dimensional(3D)printing is emerging as a transformative technology for biomedical *** 3D printed product can be patient-specific by allowing customizability and direct control of the *** trial-and-error approach currently used for developing the composition of printable inks is time-and resource-consuming due to the increasing number of variables requiring expert *** intelligence has the potential to reshape the ink development process by forming a predictive model for printability from experimental *** this paper,we constructed machine learning(ML)algorithms including decision tree,random forest(RF),and deep learning(DL)to predict the printability of biomaterials.A total of 210 formulations including 16 different bioactive and smart materials and 4 solvents were 3D printed,and their printability was *** ML methods were able to learn and predict the printability of a variety of inks based on their biomaterial *** particular,the RF algorithm has achieved the highest accuracy(88.1%),precision(90.6%),and F1 score(87.0%),indicating the best overall performance out of the 3 algorithms,while DL has the highest recall(87.3%).Furthermore,the ML algorithms have predicted the printability window of biomaterials to guide the ink *** printability map generated with DL has finer granularity than other *** has proven to be an effective and novel strategy for developing biomaterial formulations with desired 3D printability for biomedical engineering applications.

Recursive formulations for the method of reverberation-ray matrix and the application

A recursive formulation is proposed for the method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) to exactly analyze the free vibration of a multi-span continuous rectangular Kirchhoff plate, which has two oppo- site simply-supported edges. In contrast to the traditional MRRM, numerical stability is achieved by using the present new formulation for high-order frequencies or/and for plates with large span-to-width ratios. The heavy computational cost of storage and memory are also cut down. An improved recursive formulation is further proposed by modifying the iterative formula to reduce the matrix inversion op- erations. Numerical examples are finally given to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed recursive formulae.

Deep learning for in vitro prediction of pharmaceutical formulations

Current pharmaceutical formulation development still strongly relies on the traditional trialand-error methods of pharmaceutical scientists. This approach is laborious, time-consuming and ***, deep learning has been widely applied in many challenging domains because of its important capability of automatic feature extraction. The aim of the present research is to apply deep learning methods to predict pharmaceutical formulations. In this paper, two types of dosage forms were chosen as model systems. Evaluation criteria suitable for pharmaceutics were applied to assess the performance of the models. Moreover, an automatic dataset selection algorithm was developed for selecting the representative data as validation and test datasets. Six machine learning methods were compared with deep learning. Results showed that the accuracies of both two deep neural networks were above 80% and higher than other machine learning models; the latter showed good prediction of pharmaceutical formulations. In summary, deep learning employing an automatic data splitting algorithm and the evaluation criteria suitable for pharmaceutical formulation data was developed for the prediction of pharmaceutical formulations for the first time. The cross-disciplinary integration of pharmaceutics and artificial intelligence may shift the paradigm of pharmaceutical research from experience-dependent studies to data-driven methodologies.

Quality of compounded topical 2% diltiazem hydrochloride formulations for anal fissure

Predicting oral disintegrating tablet formulations by neural network techniques

Oral disintegrating tablets(ODTs) are a novel dosage form that can be dissolved on thetongue within 3 min or less especially for geriatric and pediatric patients. Current ODT for-mulation studies usually rely on the personal experience of pharmaceutical experts andtrial-and-error in the laboratory, which is inefficient and time-consuming. The aim of cur-rent research was to establish the prediction model of ODT formulations with direct com-pression process by artificial neural network(ANN) and deep neural network(DNN) tech-niques. 145 formulation data were extracted from Web of Science. All datasets were dividedinto three parts: training set(105 data), validation set(20) and testing set(20). ANN andDNN were compared for the prediction of the disintegrating time. The accuracy of the ANNmodel have reached 85.60%, 80.00% and 75.00% on the training set, validation set and testingset respectively, whereas that of the DNN model were 85.60%, 85.00% and 80.00%, respec-tively. Compared with the ANN, DNN showed the better prediction for ODT *** is the first time that deep neural network with the improved dataset selection algorithmis applied to formulation prediction on small data. The proposed predictive approach couldevaluate the critical parameters about quality control of formulation, and guide researchand process development. The implementation of this prediction model could effectivelyreduce drug product development timeline and material usage, and proactively facilitatethe development of a robust drug product.

^(14)C-butachlor and ^(14)C-oxadiazon could be released from four kinds of CR formulations into water respectively, and the release percentage of each herbicide increased with time, which could be expressed by regression equations (very obvious positive relationship). The release percentages of ^(14)C-herbicides from CR formulations were related to herbicide CR formulation and water type. Total recovery including ^(14)C-released and ^(14)C-left in formulations for each ^(14)C-herbicide was high at the 56th day after treatment. Some of the released ^(14)C-butachlor in water could be hydrolysed although under dark condition. The rate of hydrolysis was influenced by water type and formulations.

To the Editor:Iron deficiency(ID)and ID anemia(IDA)are common health problems *** World Health Organization(2011)estimated that 34%of the global population(>2 billion)is affected by anemia and that the most common type was ID(50%of total anemia),which primarily affects women of reproductive age.*1*Although intravenous(IV)iron has been used to treat ID and IDA for more than six decades,its use in primary care settings has been infrequent compared with its use in tertiary centers due to the historical concern of anaphylaxis,among *** newer(non-dextran)IV formulations,which allow complete or near-complete replacement in a single sitting of 15 to 30 min,have an improved safety profile,and better tolerability,efficacy,and effectiveness compared with oral iron *** are suited for administration in the primary care or community practices in a proper *** oral iron remains the first-line therapy for iron replacement in most guidelines,its common side effects of gastric upset and constipation,and the need to take it regularly for months to replenish iron stores,often result in *** iron injection is no longer favorable because of pain,skin discoloration and requirement of multiple injections.

Simultaneous Quantification of Ibuprofen and Paracetamol in Tablet formulations Using Transmission Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

A very simple, non-destructive, inexpensive and green strategy was applied for the simultaneous determination of ibu-profen (IBP) and paracetamol (PC) using transmission Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy in tablet formulations for routine quality control laboratories. For the determination of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), KBr pellets containing known amount of standards and samples were used for acquisition of the FTIR spectra. The partial least squares (PLS) calibration model was developed using the spectral region from 1781 - 1683 cm-1 for IBP and 1630 - 1530 cm-1 for PC. The excellent coefficients of determination (R2), 0.9999 and 0.9998 were achieved for IBP and PC, respectively. The accuracy of calibration model was also verified through root mean square error of cross validation (RMSECV) which was found to be 0.064. This work clearly shows the capability of transmission FTIR spectroscopy for assessment of exact quantity of API to control the quality of finished products as well as during processing in pharmaceutical industries without involvement of any solvent.
