Introduction:Human dependence on forests is a multifaceted *** degree of reliance on forests varies geographically,overtime and across *** dynamics underpin the importance of understanding the determinants of household reliance on forests for the long-term sustainable forest management and *** paper presents an analysis of socio-economic determinants on the level of household forest dependency in Chobe enclave,*** study hypothesised that the level of household forest dependency will significantly differ across a range of socio-economic ***:Data was collected through a structured questionnaire survey of 183 households,randomly selected from three communities bordering Chobe forest *** logistic regression model was used for analysing ***:Results showed that age and education significantly influenced household reliance on forests,while other socio-economic factors were not *** dependency was observed to be decreasing with an increase on both respondent age and educational ***,the youth were likely to be more reliant on forest products compared to their elderly counterpart while higher educational attainment lessened reliance on forest ***:In order to foster a balance between forest dependency and biodiversity conservation,alternative opportunities and provision and access to higher education aimed at diversifying young people’s livelihood activities are vital in reducing forest dependency,hence protecting forests for posterity.

Non-timber forest products(NTFPs)play a significant role in the improvement of the forest-dependent people’s livelihoodsaround the world,strengthening protection for the sustainable use of *** purpose of this research was to evaluate the influence of occupational category-wise(fuelwood collectors,farmers,small-scale businessmen,day labourers,and tea estate labourers)dependencyon NTFPsand the role of NTFPs on household income around the Khadimnagar National Park(KNP)in northeastern *** 2014,178purposively selected respondents from four villages(out of 22 villagesaround the KNP)were interviewed face-to-face using a semi-structured *** study observed that these forest-dependent communities utilized resources of the KNP mainly for domestic energy supply,household income,and house *** showed that income from NTFPs made a significant contribution to family *** data analysis indicated that small-scale businessmen earned relatively more income from NTFPs,followed by tea estate labourersand day *** study revealed significant negative relationships of the distance of households from the forest with the amount of NTFPs collected(Pforest conservation provided a foundation
