Recently, needs for reduction of raw material usage and use of low-quality raw materials have been growing in each steelworks. When the time has been ripe for prevention of global warming, the introduction of energy-saving equipment is also required investments in the iron- and steelmaking industry. In response to these needs, a coal moisture control system（hereafter referred to as "CMC"） has been introduced to produce coking coal for environmental preservation and energy conservation purposes. CMC is a preliminary coal treatment process in which charge coal for a coke oven is dried and is expected to bring about the advantages of "reduced carbonization heat value of coke ovens," "improved coke quality," and "increased coke production." Since the introduction of the steam tube dryer（STD） type CMC of the 1st generation in 1983, Nippon Steel Corporation（NSC） has pursued the improvement of equipment and processes, and succeeded in developing the fluidized bed（FB） type CMC of the 3rd generation in 1996. Currently, NSC has been constructing the FB type CMC in Maanshan Iron ＆ Steel Co., Ltd. as the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization（NEDO） project between China and Japan. The FB type CMC of Nippon Steel Engineering Co., Ltd.（NSEC） makes use of coke oven exhaust gas for fluidization gas and is a process with the higher effect of energy conservation than that of STD type CMC that uses steam as a drying heat source, etc. Furthermore, in China an FB type CMC that dries coking coal before pulverization has been running, but NSEC FB type CNC is a process that dries coking coal after pulverization. NSC conducted experiment on the drying efficiency of these two types of fluidized bed（FB） dryers and has conformed that the smaller the grain size would be, the higher the drying efficiency would be, which enables a fluidized bed to be formed without partial excess drying and overheat.

DRY CLEANING OF COAL WITH AIR DENSE MEDIUM fluidized bed

This paper deals with the experimental study of dry cleaning of coal with air dense medium fluidized bed. This technique opens up an efficient way of coal separation for vast areas in the country where water resources are in short supply or coals tend to slime seriously in wet process. Tests show that it can separate any kind of coal (6-50mm) efficiently. The probable error E, can reach 0.05-0.08. The separating density can be adjusted in the range of 1.0-2.0 g/cm~3. This technique brings about enormous economic benifits.

Moisture sorption and diffusion determination of Chinese herbal granules:Moisture-resistant effects of fluidized bed granulation with dextrin

Objective: To investigate the effects of fluidized bed granulation with dextrin on moisture sorption and diffusion of Zexie Decoction ***: The particle characterization was studied by the particle size, scanning electron microscopy(SEM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR). The moisture sorption isotherm, equilibrium moisture content(EMC), and moisture diffusion coefficients were determined by using the saturated salt solution ***: The particle size increased from 6.04 μm(powder) to 1201.47 μm(granule). The glass transition temperature of dextrin, Zexie Decoction powder, and granule was 107.13 °C, 94.82 °C, and 126.25 °C. As the increase of temperature, the initial rate of moisture sorption become higher. Furthermore, the initial rate of moisture sorption of Zexie Decoction granules was lower than those of powders and dextrin. The EMC and moisture diffusion coefficients were reduced significantly after granulation(P fluidized bed granulation with dextrin could reduce the hygroscopicity of the Zexie Decoction extract powders and inhibited moisture diffusion, which is mainly related to the microstructure reorganization by fluidized bed granulation and anti-plasticizing effects of dextrin.

Numerical Simulation of Dense Gas-solid Two Phase Flow in a Steady-state fluidized bed

To investigate the influence of the furnace structure and inlet gas velocity on gas-solid two-phase flow states in the deposition furnace,FLUENT software was used to simulate dense gas-solid two-phase flow in a fluidized *** results show that the dispersed fluidized bed formed in the deposition furnace with a cone angle of 60°has the structure of"ring-nucleus"and longer gas retention time compared with the flat-bottom structure deposition furnace,which is beneficial to the preparation of the pyrolytic carbon coating materials with a uniform structure and excellent *** gas velocity should be moderate,the slow inlet gas velocity leads to the chaos of the particle velocity distribution,which cannot form the ring-core flow *** inlet gas velocity leads to the back mixing of particles in the deposition *** addition,as the inlet gas velocity increases,both the gas phase and the average particle velocity in the central area of the deposition furnace gradually increase,and the effect of the gas phase velocity is more obvious.

Comparative study of fluidized-bed and fixed-bed reactor for syngas methanation over Ni-W/TiO_2-SiO_2 catalyst

In this work,syngas methanation over Ni-W/TiO2-SiO2catalyst was studied in a fluidized-bed reactor(FBR)and its performance was compared with a fixed-bed reactor(FIXBR).The effects of main operating variables including feedstock gases space velocity,coke content,bed temperature and sulfur-tolerant stability of 100 h life were *** structure of the catalysts was characterized by XRD,N2adsorptiondesorption and *** is found that under same space velocity from 5000 h 1to 25000 h 1FBR gave a higher CH4yield,lower coke content,and lower bed temperature than those obtained in ***-W/TiO2-SiO2catalyst possessed excellent sulfur-tolerant stability on the feedstock gases less than 500 ppm H2S in *** carbon deposits formed on the spent catalyst were in the form of carbon fibers in FBR,while in the form of dense accumulation distribution appearance in FIXBR.

Prediction of particle size and layer-thickness distributions in a continuous horizontal fluidized-bed coating process

To predict the particle size and layer-thickness distributions(LTDs)in a continuously operated horizontal fluidized-bed granulation process,two alternative models were considered.A one-dimensional two-zone model was proposed,which describes with population-balance equations the particle growth in a spraying zone that is separated from the drying *** residence-time distribution(RTD)was calculated from a literature correlation and was coupled with a population-balance model via a tank-in-series model with reflux.A two-dimensional,one-zone population-balance model,which was based directly on the RTD and the feed particle-size distribution(PSD)was also *** experiments were conducted and analyzed microscopically and with a camera optical device to determine the sample *** over the particle population were derived from the PSDs and were analyzed directly by *** compare the simulated data with the experimentally determined distributions,the PSDs were converted to *** good agreement shows that both methods are suitable to determine the PSD from an RTD of an arbitrary granulation process in a horizontal fluidized *** appears necessary with regards to the LTD spread.

Incineration of kitchen waste with high nitrogen in vortexing fluidized-bed incinerator and its NO emission characteristics

Some municipal solid waste （MSW） can be used as the fuel. Combustion of MSW with high nitrogen content is successfully conducted in a lab-scale vortexing fluidized-bed incinerator （VFBI）. Pigskin with 16.5 wt.% nitrogen content was used to simulate the high nitrogen content kitchen waste, and silica sand was used as the bed material. The effects of operating conditions, such as the bed temperature, freeboard temperature, excess oxygen ratio, and static bed height on the CO and NO concentrations at the exit of combustor and cyclone were investigated. The experimental results show that the freeboard temperature is the most important factor for CO emission. The order of operating conditions impact on the NO emission is：（1） excess oxygen ratio; （2） bed temperature; （3） freeboard temperature; and （4） static bed height. Utilizing cyclone can significantly reduce the CO emission concentration when the CO concentration released from the freeboard is higher than 50 ppm. On the other hand, the cyclone has no significant effect on the NO emission. Despite having high nitrogen content, a low conversion from fuel-N to NO was attained. Compared with other types of combustors, VFBI reduces the CO and NO emission concentrations much better when burning MSW with high nitrogen content.

An Eulerian-Lagrangian Modeling of Fluidized Bed

The particle motions in a fluidized bed were numerically simulated using a Eulerian-Lagrangian model. The solid phase was modelled via the Discrete Element Method (DEM) while the hydrodynamic model of the fluid phase was based on the volume-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. A fluid density-based buoyancy (FDB) model was adopted to calculate the solid-fluid interaction force. In this paper, the complex ‘four way coupled’ interaction as proposed by Elghobashi in 1991 was modelled, namely the dominant effect of gas phase on the dispersed particles, the back influence of the particle phase on the gas phase, and interactions between particles such as collision, agglomeration and break-up. A stable succession of bubble formation and disappearance was captured. Obtained pressure drop and interparticle contact number had a good agreement with those reported in previous reference.
