flood management is a set of activities that have to be carried out in collaboration with multiple *** flood information with early warning generated using remote sensing satellite technologies can help the agencies to effectively manage the situation on *** environmental parameters and forecasts provided by different agencies can be analyzed and compared with historical flood events for generating probable flood event *** information(environmental parameters)provided by the agencies are heterogeneous and noncompliant to standards and distributed in *** of data from distributed resources and automation of data analysis process for flood management is a primary prerequisite for faster and efficient *** 2.0-based web services enable data creation,sharing,communication,and collaboration on *** data sharing on web 2.0 for making quality of service using open-source software for efficient flood management is a *** software architectures proposed for risk and environmental crisis management are too generic in nature and needs lot of modification for flood *** event-driven model coupled with data standardization procedures using service-oriented architecture provides an effective framework for flood *** this paper,a framework capable of collecting heterogeneous distributed flood-related information for analyzing and alerting probable flood events is *** framework has been implemented to generate automatic flood extent maps,by analyzing the distributed satellite data(as service).The automation of flood delineation process reduces the overall flood product generation ***-source web tools have been utilized in development of spatial information system to visualize and analyze the actual situation on ground facilitating overall decision-making process.

＜正＞Until recently, flood management analyses and schemes often neglected to consider the implications of flood management for river sediment transfer systems. However, disruption of sediment dynamics in the fluvial system may have adverse impacts on flood defence infrastructure and in-stream habitats. In this paper, we report initial results from a project-centred study of the Hawkcombe Stream in Somerset, UK that was used to illustrate the nature of sediment-related problems and how they may be addressed. Two serious sediment-related issues are sedimentation in a culvert beneath the settlement of Porlock and degradation downstream of the weirs that mark the end of the flood defence scheme. Remedial works are now necessary to ensure that the flood defence functions of the culvert and channel are not compromised in the future. A qualitative Fluvial Audit was performed to establish the distribution of sources, transfer links and sinks in the sediment transfer system. Sediment transport modelling was then undertaken using the 1-D hydrodynamic model, iSIS, to provide advice on re-sectioning the culvert to allow it to transmit rather than trap coarse bedload.

Fast clogging problem of open check dams and a new type suggestion:curved footed type open check dam

Driftwood is one of the important physical components in mountainous rivers which causes severe hazards due to the clogging of bridges,culverts,and narrow sections during ***,the understanding of driftwood dynamics and mitigation measures are crucial for managing wood in *** check dams are the most commonly used engineering measure for preventing driftwood from reaching downstream ***,these open check dams frequently lose their sediment transport function when they are blocked by sediment and driftwood,especially during major flood *** paper proposes a new type of open check dam for preventing from ***,flume experiments were conducted to examine the influence of different types of open check dams on the characteristics of driftwood *** the model with wood length(LWD)=16.5 cm,wood diameter(D)=15 mm,and wood number(N)=172,the highest trapping efficiency was observed with 90.1%and 87.2%retention rates for the classical debris flow breaker and curved footed open check dams,*** tests showed that through this proposed design,woody debris blockage in a very short time was prevented from the accumulation of woods beside the *** addition to this,most of the sediment passed through the check dam and most of the driftwood got *** can be briefly stated that the geometrical design of the structure plays an important role and can be chosen carefully to optimize trapping *** designing this type of open check dams in mountain river basins,it may provide a better understanding of the driftwood accumulation and basis for the optimal design of these *** development of the solution proposed in this work can pave the way for designing different types of open check dams for effective flood management.

Mitigation of the amplitude and celerity of dam break shock wave using combination of groyne and vertical pier

This paper aims to numerically investigate the impact of the combination of groynes and vertical piers on mitigating the amplitude and celerity of dam break ***,a robust numerical model based on the Finite Volume Method(FVM)with the Harten,Lax and van Leer(HLL)approximate Reimann’s solver’s technique is developed and validated with other research *** many different scenarios including group of piers,group of groynes with different shapes and combination of groynes and piers are considered for dam break flow *** final results showed that group of piers alone or group of groynes alone have no significant effects on the wave-front depth and celerity but,combination of L-head groyne with piers can decrease the amplitude and celerity of the dam break wavefront or flood *** this case,a blockage zone between the groynes and intensive backwater effects behind them were observed.

floodplain Mapping and Risks Assessment of the Orashi River Using Remote Sensing and GIS in the Niger Delta Region, Nigeria

Residents along the shoreline of the Orashi River have yearly been displaced and recorded loss of lives,farmland,and *** Government’s approach has been the provision of relief materials to the victims instead of implementing adequate control *** research employs Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission and Google Earth imagery in developing a 3D floodplain map using ArcGIS *** result indicates the drainage system in the study area is dendritic with catchment of 79 subbasins and 76 pour point implying the area is *** the 3D slope which reveals that>8 andfloodplain and pink contain 0.82 km2 with the length of 32.82 *** result from google earth image in 2007 indicate absent of settlement,2013 indicate minimal settlement and 2020 indicate major settlement in the study area when correlated with 3D floodplain mapping before and during the flood in other to analyze and manage flooding for further purpose and the majority of the area are under seize with flood like in ***,Remote Sensing and GIS techniques are useful for floodplain mapping,risk analysis for control measures for better flood management.
