A class of multivariate filter banks with a matrix factorization has been developed by Chen et al. The main purpose of this paper is to discuss some further properties of this kind of filter bank, such as the completeness, accuracy of the corresponding scaling functions and the relationships with Daubechies' wavelets and the multi-wavelets provided by Chui and Lian. Moreover, some examples are given to show that this kind of filter bank has a higher accuracy for the scaling functions.

This paper introduces decimated filter banks for the one-dimensional empirical mode decomposition （1D-EMD）. These filter banks can provide perfect reconstruction and allow for an arbitrary tree structure. Since the EMD is a data driven decomposition, it is a very useful analysis instrument for non-stationary and non-linear signals. However, the traditional 1D-EMD has the disadvantage of expanding the data. Large data sets can be generated as the amount of data to be stored increases with every decomposition level. The 1D-EMD can be thought as having the structure of a single dyadic filter. However, a methodology to incorporate the decomposition into any arbitrary tree structure has not been reported yet in the literature. This paper shows how to extend the 1D-EMD into any arbitrary tree structure while maintaining the perfect reconstruction property. Furthermore, the technique allows for downsampling the decomposed signals. This paper, thus, presents a method to minimize the data-expansion drawback of the 1D-EMD by using decimation and merging the EMD coefficients. The proposed algorithm is applicable for any arbitrary tree structure including a full binary tree structure.

Fast-convolution multicarrier(FCMC), the asynchronous waveform with ultra-low sidelobe, has appeared to be a promising waveform technique for future wireless communications. In this paper, we investigate the filter bank optimization as well as receiver design including low-complexity channel estimator and equalizer for FCMC based frequency division multiple access(FDMA). Starting from the conventional multi-carrier signals, we first derive a vectorized signal model as a framework to systematically design the FCMC transceiver. For nearly perfect reconstruction(NPR) filter banks design, an optimization criterion which consists of minimizing received signal segments' mean square error(MSE) is proposed. From the fact that Toeplitz matrices can be asymptotically diagonalized by discrete Fourier transform(DFT) matrix, the channel equalizer can be simplified to one-tap frequency domain equalizer when DFT size is large *** minimum mean square error(MMSE) criterion is then applied to calculate the coefficients of onetap frequency domain equalizer. In practice, due to the channel fading, the channel estimation has to be performed to obtain the channel state information(CSI) which is required by the channel equalization. To this end, we propose a combined cyclic prefix(CP) and cyclic suffix(CS) pilot structure which facilitates to estimate the frequency domain CSI directly in the receiver end. The proposed FCMC based FDMA features low-complexity receiver, adjustable users' bandwidth and low peak-to-average power ratio. Simulation results confirm the performance of the proposed scheme.

A novel optimization-based method for designing wavelet filter banks in image fusion is proposed. The filter bank design is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem. The objective function of the optimization problem consists of both the performance metrics of the image fusion, such as the root mean square error （RMSE）, and those of individual filters. The optimization problem is solved using simulating annealing.

According to the relationship of wavelet transform and perfect reconstructive FIR filter banks, this paper presents a real-time chip with adaptive Dorioho’s non-linear soft-threshold for denoising in different levels of multi-scale space through rearranging the input data during convolving, filtering and sub-sampling. And more important, it gives a simple iterative algorithm to calculate the variance of the noise in interregna with no signal. It works well whether the signal or noise is stationary or not.

This paper proposes a wavelet based receiver structure for frequency-flat time-varying Rayleigh channels, consisting of a receiver front-end followed by a Maximum A-Posteriori (MAP) detector. Discretization of the received continuous time signal using filter banks is an essential stage in the front-end part, where the Fast Haar Transform (FHT) is used to reduce complexity. Analysis of our receiver over slow-fading channels shows that it is optimal for certain modulation schemes. By comparison with literature, it is shown that over such channels our receiver can achieve optimal performance for Time-Orthogonal modulation. Computed and Monte-Carlo simulated performance results over fast time-varying Rayleigh fading channels show that with Minimum Shift Keying (MSK), our receiver using four basis functions (filters) lowers the error floor by more than one order of magnitude with respect to other techniques of comparable complexity. Orthogonal Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) can achieve the same performance as Time-Orthogonal modulation for the slow-fading case, but suffers some degradation over fast-fading channels where it exhibits an error floor. Compared to MSK, however, Orthogonal FSK provides better performance.
