Atomic devices such as atomic clocks and optically-pumped magnetometers rely on the interrogation of atoms contained in a cell whose inner content has to meet high standards of purity and ***-blowing techniques and craftsmanship have evolved over many decades to achieve such standards in macroscopic vapor *** the emergence of chip-scale atomic devices,the need for miniaturization and mass fabrication has led to the adoption of microfabrication techniques to make millimeter-scale vapor ***,many shortcomings remain and no process has been able to match the quality and versatility of glass-blown ***,we introduce a novel approach to structure,fill and seal microfabricated vapor cells inspired from the century-old approach of glass-blowing,through opening and closing single-use zero-leak microfabricated *** valves are actuated exclusively by laser,and operate in the same way as the“make-seals”and“break-seals”found in the filling apparatus of traditional *** structures are employed to fill cesium vapor cells at the *** make-seal structure consists of a glass membrane that can be locally heated and deflected to seal a *** break-seal is obtained by breaching a silicon wall between *** new approach allows adapting processes previously restricted to glass-blown *** can also be extended to vacuum microelectronics and vacuum-packaging of micro-electro-mechanical systems(MEMS)devices.

Time reversal symmetry(TRS)is a key symmetry for classification of unconventional superconductors,and the violation of TRS often results in a wealth of novel *** we report the synthesis and superconducting properties of the partially filled skutterudite Pr1-δ*** results from x-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements show that the[Pt4 Ge12]cage-forming structure survives and bulk superconductivity is preserved below the superconducting transition temperature Tc = 7.80 *** temperature dependence of both the upper critical field and the electronic specific heat can be described in terms of a two-gap model,providing strong evidence of multi-band *** breaking is observed using zero Held muon-spin relaxation experiments,and the magnitude of the spontaneous field is nearly half of that in PrPt4Ge12.

Magnetic-particle-composite-medium-filled stacked-spiral inductors for rf complementary metal oxide semiconductor(CMOS)applications in GHz are *** new inductor features a nearly closed magnetic circuit loop,an optimized high-permeability and low-loss sub-1μm magnetic particles'composite core,and a developed 0.18-μm CMOS-compatible device fabrication *** equivalent circuit model with structural amplifying factors is proposed and *** prototype of the 6-level stacked inductor with Co_(2)Z magnetic-particles-composite-medium filling increases the inductance L by 50%,and quality factor Q by 37%at frequencies as high as 1 GHz,with high inductance density as 825 nH/mm2 and a reduced size area by 80%compared to the planar spiral inductor.

This study attempts to elucidate whether the addition of micro and/or nano-silica(SiO_(2))particles can enhance the resistance of pure polydimethylsiloxane against synergistic effects of UV,temperature and high-voltage *** types of composites(U-SR,M-SR,MN-SR and N-SR)are fabricated by adding micro and/or nano-silica particles and then subjected to multi-stress degradation in a test *** show that there is an apparent surface discoloration in the form of yellowish pale tint and a significant resistance to hydrophobicity reduction is offered by N-SR and MN-SR followed by M-SR and *** electron microscopy and surface roughness findings proclaimed that N-SR and MN-SR offer excellent resistance against filler exposure and an increase in surface *** is a minor reduction in absorbance level of Si(CH_(3))_(2) and Si-O-Si functional groups of composites but interestingly,hydrophilic hydroxyl group absorbance level is found higher in the U-SR ***,dielectric response measurements indicate considerable sensitivity to weathering with N-SR and MN-SR giving the lowest dielectric *** indicate that the addition of nano-silica to pure and micro-silica filled SR can enhance its UV weathering resistance considerably by building an effective UV shielding layer.

Thermal depolymerisation induced tracking and erosion of polymeric insulators is one of the key insulation failure modes and this process adversely affects the reliability of power delivery *** study reports the tracking,erosion and thermal distribution of micron-AlN and micron-AlN+nano-SiO_(2)co-filled silicone rubber composites.A tracking-erosion model is presented to explain how the co-filled set of particles directly affects such *** nitride(AlN:5-10μm)and silica(SiO_(2):20 nm)particles were procured for fabricating test *** inclined plane test according to IEC 60587 was carried out using tracking voltage method 2 with an initial applied voltage of 3 kV and a ramping rate of 0.25 kV/h over the duration of 240 *** results show co-filled composites exhibit significantly lower physical tracking and erosion as compared to micron-AlN filled *** accumulation and average leakage current in co-filled composites are found noticeably lower than micron-filled ***,the increased surface area of the combined co-filled particles in the composites provides better scattering and reduce secondary electron *** may impede the release of high energy causing thermal degradation.

Flow diverter devices are small stents used to divert blood flow away from aneurysms in the brain,stagnating flow and inducing intra-aneurysmal thrombosis which in time will prevent aneurysm *** devices are formed from thin(~25μm)wires which will remain in place long after the aneurysm has been *** their continued presence could lead to secondary complications,an absorbable flow diverter which dissolves into the body after aneurysm occlusion is *** absorbable metals investigated to date struggle to achieve the necessary combination of strength,elasticity,corrosion rate,fragmentation resistance,radiopacity,and *** work proposes and investigates a new composite wire concept combining absorbable iron alloy(FeMnN)shells with one or more pure molybdenum(Mo)*** wire configurations are produced and drawn to 25–250μm *** testing revealed high and tunable mechanical properties on par with existing flow diverter *** vitro degradation testing of 100μm wire in DMEM to 7 days indicated progressive corrosion and cracking of the FeMnN shell but not of the Mo,confirming the cathodic protection of the Mo by the FeMnN and thus mitigation of premature fragmentation *** vivo implantation and subsequentμCT of the same wires in mouse aortas to 6 months showed meaningful corrosion had begun in the FeMnN shell but not yet in the Mo filament *** total,these results indicate that these composites may offer an ideal combination of properties for absorbable flow diverters.

This paper reports on the investigation of incipient fault mechanisms of a widely used family of Cable Sealing Ends(CSEs)which use an earthed metallic clip on top of the stress cone to fasten the cable termination stress *** element simulations indicate that the clip is causing localised electric field enhancement which could also cause impurities in the oil to move towards the clip under the influence of the dielectrophoretic *** ageing tests of stress cones in the laboratory have corroborated the simulation results,with the high electric field causing degradation of the semi-conducting tape underneath the clip as well as initiation of tracking on the surface of the stress cone originating from the edges of the *** discharge(PD)testing using a bespoke test rig in the high voltage laboratory has shown that incipient faults originating from the ageing of the solid CSE materials can only be detected after surface tracking has pro-gressed *** then,the intermittent nature of PD activity can pose a risk to the accurate condition assessment of CSEs if continuous monitoring is not employed and if the ultra-high frequency method is used on its own.

The synthesis of filled skutterudite compounds (Ce or Y)_y(Fe)_x(Co)_(4x)(Sb)_(12), through a solidstate reaction using chloride of Ce or Y,high purity powder of Co, Fe, and Sb as starting materials,was investigated. (Ce or Y)_y(Fe)_x(Co)_(4x)(Sb)_(12) (x=0--1.0, y=0--0.15) compounds were obtained at850--1 123 K. The results of Rietveld analysis demonstrate that (Ce or Y)_y(Fe)_x(Co)_(4x)(Sb)_12synthesized by a solid state reaction possesses a filled skutterudite structure. The filling fraction ofCe or Y obtained by Rietveld analysis agrees well with the composition obtained by chemicalanalysis. The lattice constant of (Ce)_y(Fe)_x(Co)_(4x)(Sb)_(12) increases with increasing substitution of Fe at Cosites, and with an increasing Ce filling fraction in the Sb-dodecahedron voids. The lattice thermalconductivity of (Ce or Y)_y(Fe)_x(Co)_(4x)(Sb)_(12) decreases significantly with an increasing Ce or Y fillingfraction in the voids and with substitution of Fe at Co sites.

In this paper, a numerical method is established to analyze the response of fluid-filled structure to underwater explosion with cavitation and the validation of the method is illustrated. In the present implementation, the second-order doubly asymptotic approximation(DAA2) other than curved wave approximation(CWA)is used to simulate non-reflecting boundary. Based on the method, the difference between DAA2non-reflecting boundary and CWA non-reflecting boundary is investigated; then, the influence of internal fluid volume and the influence of cavitation on dynamic response of spherical shell are analyzed. Compared with CWA non-reflecting boundary, DAA2non-reflecting boundary treats added mass effects better. When the internal fluid is full, the displacement and velocity of spherical shell decrease, but, when the internal fluid is half, the displacement and velocity of spherical shell increase. The effect of cavitation is more obvious at the trailing point than at the leading point of spherical shell.
