Battery pack capacity estimation for electric vehicles based on enhanced machine learning and field data

Accurate capacity estimation is of great importance for the reliable state monitoring,timely maintenance,and second-life utilization of lithium-ion *** numerous works on battery capacity estimation using laboratory datasets,most of them are applied to battery cells and lack satisfactory fidelity when extended to real-world electric vehicle(EV)battery *** challenges intensify for large-sized EV battery packs,where unpredictable operating profiles and low-quality data acquisition hinder precise capacity *** fill the gap,this study introduces a novel data-driven battery pack capacity estimation method grounded in field *** proposed approach begins by determining labeled capacity through an innovative combination of the inverse ampere-hour integral,open circuit voltage-based,and resistance-based correction ***,multiple health features are extracted from incremental capacity curves,voltage curves,equivalent circuit model parameters,and operating temperature to thoroughly characterize battery aging behavior.A feature selection procedure is performed to determine the optimal feature set based on the Pearson correlation ***,a convolutional neural network and bidirectional gated recurrent unit,enhanced by an attention mechanism,are employed to estimate the battery pack capacity in real-world EV ***,the proposed method is validated with a field dataset from two EVs,covering approximately 35,000 *** results demonstrate that the proposed method exhibits better estimation performance with an error of less than 1.1%compared to existing *** work shows great potential for accurate large-sized EV battery pack capacity estimation based on field data,which provides significant insights into reliable labeled capacity calculation,effective features extraction,and machine learning-enabled health diagnosis.

Crop Calendar Mapping of Bangladesh Rice Paddy field with ALOS-2 ScanSAR data

Rice paddy mapping with optical remote sensing is challenging in Bangladesh due to the heterogeneous cropping pattern, fragmented field size and cloud cover during the growing period. The high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensor is the potential alternate to mapping rice area in Bangladesh. The L-band SAR sensor onboard Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) acquires multi-polarization and multi-temporal images are a very useful tool for rice area mapping. In this study, we used ALOS-2 ScanSAR dual (HH + HV) polarized time series data in the study area. We used orthorectification and slope corrected backscatter (sigma-naught) images and median filtering (3 × 3) window for image processing. The unsupervised classification with the k-means++ algorithm is used for initial clustering (20 categories) of images over the study area. The GPS location of rice paddy field with cropping pattern over study area uses for classifying the different rice-growing season from the k-means clustering data. The result is compared with the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) based rice area and national statistical agricultural yearbook statistics. The results show that, based on the MODIS based rice map, the rice fields can be mapped with a conditional Kappa value of 0.68 and at user’s and producer’s accuracies of 86% and 90%, respectively. Structural health monitoring of bridges in the State of Connecticut

A joint effort between the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the University of Connecticut has been underway for more than 20 years to utilize various structural monitoring approaches to assess different bridges in Connecticut. This has been done to determine the performance of existing bridges, refine techniques needed to evaluate different bridge components, and develop approaches that can be used to provide a continuous status of a bridge＇s structural integrity. This paper briefly introduces the background of these studies, with emphasis on recent research and the development of structural health monitoring concepts. This paper presents the results from three different bridge types： a post-tensioned curved concrete box girder bridge, a curved steel box-girder bridge, and a steel multi-girder bridge. The structural health monitoring approaches to be discussed have been successfully tested using field data collected during multi-year monitoring periods, and are based on vibrations, rotations and strains. The goal has been to develop cost-effective strategies to provide critical information needed to manage the State of Connecticut＇s bridge infrastructure.

Enhanced wear prediction of tunnel boring machine disc cutters for accurate remaining useful life estimation using a hybrid model

In tunnel construction with tunnel boring machines(TBMs),accurate prediction of the remaining useful life(RUL)of disc cutters is critical for timely maintenance and replacement to avoid delays and cost *** paper introduces a novel hybrid model,integrating fundamental and data-driven approaches,to enhance wear prediction of TBM disc cutters and enable accurate RUL *** fundamental model is improved by incorporating composite wear mechanisms and load estimation techniques,showcasing superior prediction accuracy compared to single-mechanism ***,the hybrid model innovatively incorporates a data-driven supplementary residual term into the improved fundamental model,leading to a high-performance wear prediction *** actual field data from a highway tunnel project in Shenzhen,the performance of the hybrid model is rigorously tested and compared with pure fundamental and data-driven *** hybrid model outperforms the other models,achieving the highest accuracy in predicting TBM disc cutter wear(mean absolute error(MAE)=0.53,root mean square error(RMSE)=0.64).Furthermore,this study thoroughly analyzes the hybrid model’s generalization capability,revealing significant impacts of geological conditions on prediction *** model’s generalization capability is also improved by expanding and updating the data *** RUL estimation results provided by the hybrid model are straightforward and effective,making it a valuable tool by which construction staff can monitor TBM disc cutters.

Alien woody plant invasions in natural forests across China

Aims Alien plant invasion has become a major global environmental issue,causing severe economic and ecological *** invasions have been reported in some regions of ***,most studies have been conducted at local and provincial levels,and the overall degree of invasion in natural forests across China remains ***,we explored the biogeographic patterns and their environmental and socioeconomic controls of the invaded alien woody plants in natural forests across the *** We compiled the data of 3573 natural forest plots across the China's Mainland and mapped spatial distribution of alien woody plant *** also used logistic regression models to identify the key socioeconomic and environmental factors that were associated with the observed invasion *** Findings We found that only 271 plots among 3573 natural forest plots were invaded by alien woody plants,accounting for 7.58%of all *** all 2825 woody plant species across all plots surveyed,only 5 alien species(0.177%)were *** human activities and climate factors were related to the observed invasion *** China’s natural forests are mostly located in remote mountainous areas with limited human disturbance,alien woody plant invasions are less than those reported in North America and ***,with the development of transportation and increased economic activities in mountainous areas,more invasions by alien plants may be expected in the ***,proactive management and policy making are desired to prevent or slow down the invasion processes.

STABILITY OF GRAVEL BED RIVERS BASED ON SIEVE ANALYSIS data

Research was carried out at the University of Karlsruhe in the last 10 years to modify existing formulas and improve our knowledge on the determination of the stability of stream beds consisting of gravels and stones. Streams in the middle mountain region with typical slopes of I =0.05%to0.8% as well as those with distinct step-pool structures and slopes of I>4% and I ≤ 10% were investigated. Most of the experiments were conducted in the Theodor-Rehbock Laboratory. However, same of the results that had been obtained under laboratory conditions could be verrified with existing field data. In the following, the results and formulas of practical importance will be introduced and discussed.
