facilities management Carbon Footprints： An Audit of Critical Elements of management and Reporting

Concern for the environmental impact of organizations＇ activities has led to the recognition and demand for organizations to manage and report on their carbon footprint. However, there is no limit as to the areas of carbon footprints required in such annual environmental reports. To deliver improvements in the quality of carbon footprint management and reporting, there is a need to identify the main elements of carbon footprint strategy that can be endorsed, supported and encouraged by facility managers. The study investigates carbon footprint elements managed and reported upon by facility manager in the UK. Drawing on a questionnaire survey of 256 facility managers in the UK, the key elements of carbon footprints identified in carbon footprint reports are examined. The findings indicate that the main elements are building energy consumption, waste disposal and water consumption. Business travel in terms of using public transport, air travel and company cars are also recognized as important targets and objectives for the carbon footprint strategy of several FM （facilities management） organizations.

Application of an Optimized Entropy-TOPSIS Multicriteria Decision Making Model to facilities management

Performance evaluation of facilities management plays a key role in the facilities management process. This paper proposes an optimized multicriteria decision making model to evaluate the performance of facilities management in schools in Hong Kong. In this model, entropy weights acted as weight coefficients for evaluated criteria in order to avoid uncertainty and randomicity of subjective judgments. Besides, the TOPSIS method was incorporated in this model. Then this model was em- ployed to evaluate the performance of facilities management in classrooms, offices and laboratories and satisfying results were obtained. Moreover, findings indicated that one of the schools could be rehabilitated rather than removed.

In spite of the importance of GIS technology, too little research has been done to understand the role of this technology in business. Long time ago, business school researchers had recognized the promise and importance of GIS and mapping. Nevertheless, few business scholars have chosen to follow this stream with the result that researchers from other academic disciplines such as geography and computer science have performed the bulk of the research on GIS applications and functionality. Researchers in disciplines such as information systems, marketing, real estate, and management can add a great deal to the existing GIS research literature by applying theories, frameworks, applications, and perspectives from their respective fields of study. Because of that, the purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of GIS in business. To achieve this, an overview of GIS technology will be provided. GIS as decision support system was presented. Following this, a framework for GIS applications in business is proposed and examples of representative applications are cited and discussed.

Building tele-monitoring can be considered as the transmission of large volumes of continuous and noisy environmental data generated by the environmental sensors in buildings from one site to another using computer and telecommunication technology for purpose of remote building management.A common medium for building tele-monitoring is broadband which presents 2 major challenges in developing countries:the demand for bandwidth can easily outstrip the revenue realizable that is needed to pay for the network infrastructure investment so lower （cheaper and slower） bandwidth is normal;a consequence of restricted bandwidth on access pipes is service contention at the customer site,even if core bandwidth exists to deliver the *** this paper we propose a time series analysis technique called data wavelets to perform data compression to address the challenges of broadband for data transmission in developing countries.
