Long-term monitoring of environmental warfare agengts is a challenge for chemical gas sensors.To address this issue,we developed a 433 MHz passive wireless surface acoustic wave(WSAW)gas sensor for dimethyl methylphosphonate(DMMP)detection.This WSAW gas sensor includes a YZ lithium niobate(LiNbO_(3))substrate with metallic interdigital transducers(IDTs)etched on it,and an antenna was placed near the IDT.A DMMP-sensitive viscoelastic polymer fluoroalcoholpolysiloxane(SXFA)film was prepared on a LiNbO_(3) substrate,and mode modeling coupling was used to optimize the design parameters.The sensor can function properly in an environments between−30℃ and 100℃ with humidity less than 60%RH.When the wireless transmission distance was within the range of 0-90 cm,the sensor noise increased with distance,and the stability was less than 32°/h.While optimizing the film thickness of SXFA,a relationship was observed between sensor sensitivity and film thickness.When the film thickness of SXFA reached 450 nm,the optimal value was reached.At a distance of 20 cm between the transmitting and receiving antennas,DMMP was detected at different concentrations with the developed WSAW gas sensor.The lower detection limit of DMMP was 0.48 mg/m^(3),the sensitivity of the sensor was 4.63°/(mg/m^(3)),and repeatable performance of the sensor was confirmed.

The vagus nerve(VN)plays an important role in regulating physiological conditions in the gastrointestinal(GI)tract by communicating via the parasympathetic pathway to the enteric nervous system(ENS).However,the lack of knowledge in the neurophysiology of the VN and GI tract limits the development of advanced treatments for autonomic dysfunctions related to the VN.To better understand the complicated underlying mechanisms of the VN-GI tract neurophysiology,it is necessary to use an advanced device enabled by microfabrication technologies.Among several candidates including intraneural probe array and extraneural cuff electrodes,microchannel electrode array devices can be used to interface with smaller numbers of nerve fibers by securing them in the separate channel structures.Previous microchannel electrode array devices to interface teased nerve structures are relatively bulky with thickness around 200µm.The thick design can potentially harm the delicate tissue structures,including the nerve itself.In this paper,we present a flexible thin film based microchannel electrode array device(thickness:11.5µm)that can interface with one of the subdiaphragmatic nerve branches of the VN in a rat.We demonstrated recording evoked compound action potentials(ECAP)from a transected nerve ending that has multiple nerve fibers.Moreover,our analysis confirmed that the signals are from C-fibers that are critical in regulating autonomic neurophysiology in the GI tract.

Yttrium iron garnet(YIG)is a promising material for various terahertz applications due to its special optical properties.At present,a high-quality YIG wafer is the desire of terahertz communities and it is still challenging to prepare substrate-free YIG single crystal films.In this work,we prepared wafer-level substrate-free La:YIG single crystal films,for the first time,to our knowledge.Terahertz optical and magneto-optical properties of La:YIG films were characterized by terahertz time domain spectroscopy(THz-TDS).Results show that the as-prepared La:YIG film has an insertion loss of less than 3 dB and a low absorption coefficient of less than10 cm-1below 1.6 THz.Benefitting from the thickness of the substrate-free YIG films and low insertion loss,their terahertz properties could be further manipulated by simply using a wafer-stacking technique.When four La:YIG films were stacked,there was an insertion loss of less than 10 dB in the range of 0.1-1.2 THz.The Faraday rotation angle of the four-layer-stacked La:YIG films reached 19°,and the isolation could reach17 dB.By further increasing the stacking number to eight pieces,a remarkable Faraday rotation angle of45°was achieved with an isolation of 23 dB,which is important for practical application in the THz band.This material may provide a milestone opportunity to make various non-reciprocal devices,such as isolators and phase shifters.

Spectroscopic ellipsometry is a potent method that is widely adopted for the measurement of thin film thickness and refractive index.Most conventional ellipsometers utilize mechanically rotating polarizers and grating-based spectrometers for spectropolarimetric detection.Here,we demonstrated a compact metasurface array-based spectroscopic ellipsometry system that allows single-shot spectropolarimetric detection and accurate determination of thin film properties without any mechanical movement.The silicon-based metasurface array with a highly anisotropic and diverse spectral response is combined with iterative optimization to reconstruct the full Stokes polarization spectrum of the light reflected by the thin film with high fidelity.Subsequently,the film thickness and refractive index can be determined by fitting the measurement results to a proper material model with high accuracy.Our approach opens up a new pathway towards a compact and robust spectroscopic ellipsometry system for the high throughput measurement of thin film properties.

Metal halide perovskites are promising materials for solar cells because of high power conversion efficiency(PCE),tun-able bandgap,high defect tolerance,long carrier diffusion length,and low-cost fabrication[1-7].The PCE for perovskite solar cells(PSCs)reaches 26.14%for single-junction cells,29.1%for perovskite/perovskite tandem cells and 33.9%for perovskite/silicon tandem cells,being comparable to that for silicon and other thin-film solar cells[8-10].Perovskite solar cells have been made by solution methods including spin-coat-ing,blade coating and printing[11,12].

Development of metal-organic framework(MOF)films is of great importance to expand their applications.Herein,we report a facile and universal method of liquid-phase epitaxial(LPE)layer by layer(LBL)brushing approach for fabricating MOF films on various substrates in a high-throughput fashion.This MOF films preparation method offers a great prospective to cost-effectively construct films with short preparation time and little reagent consumption.Moreover,this LBL brushing approach has been implemented successfully to assemble various MOF films,including HKUST-1,zeolitic imidazolate framework-8(ZIF-8),Cu(bdc),and Cu_(2)(L)_(2)P(L=bdc,ndc,and cam;P=dabco and bipy).Afterwards,the classic MOF HKUST-1 and ZIF-8 films were grown on sensor chip electrode and porous fiber support for good volatile organic compounds(VOCs)selective sensing and water purification applications.This study demonstrates that this LBL brushing preparation method can be employed to synthesize various MOF films with a variety of characteristics to realize their sensing and separation applications.

Dynamics of Low-Viscosity Liquids Interface in an Unevenly Rotating Vertical Layer

The behavior of two immiscible low-viscosity liquids differing in density and viscosity in a vertical flat layer undergoing modulated rotation is experimentally studied.The layer has a circular axisymmetric boundary.In the absence of modulation of the rotation speed,the interphase boundary has the shape of a short axisymmetric cylinder.A new effect has been discovered,under the influence of rotation speed modulation,the interface takes on a new dynamic equilibrium state.A more viscous liquid covers the end boundaries of the layer in the form of thin films,which have the shape of round spots of almost constant radius;with increasing amplitude of the velocity modulation,the wetting boundary expands.It is found that upon reaching the critical amplitude of oscillations,the film of a viscous liquid loses stability,and the outer edge of the wetting spot collapses and takes on a feathery structure.It is shown that this threshold is caused by the development of the Kelvin-Helmholtz oscillatory instability of the film.The spreading radius of a spot of light viscous liquid and its stability are studied depending on the rotation rate,amplitude,and frequency of rotation speed modulation.The discovered averaged effects are determined by different oscillatory interaction of fluids with the end-walls of the cell,due to different viscosities.The effect of films forming can find application in technological processes to intensify mass transfer at interphase boundaries.

The purpose of this research was to develop a chitosan sulfobetaine(CS-SNCC)film via the solutioncasting method as a biodegradable antibacterial material for biomedical applications.Chitosan and monochloro-triazine sulfobetaine were used as the raw materials for CS-SNCC preparation,and Fourier-transform infrared(FTIR),ultraviolet–visible(UV-Vis),energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX),and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)spectra were used to characterize and analyze the structure of the synthesized CS-SNCC.Furthermore,the swelling property,thermal stability,biodegradability,cytocompatibility,and antibacterial properties of the CS-SNCC film were comprehensively investigated and compared with those of the chitosan film.The results for the film’s enzymatic biodegradation behavior show that the CS-SNCC film undergoes a weight loss of 45.54%after 21 days of incubation.In addition,the CS-SNCC film effectively resists bacterial adhesion,prevents the formation of bacteria biofilms,and exhibits high antibacterial activity,with inactivation rates of 93.43%for Escherichia coli and 91.00%for Staphylococcus aureus.Moreover,the CS-SNCC film shows good cellular activity and cytocompatibility according to the cytotoxicity results.Therefore,the prepared biodegradable,cytocompatible,antibacterial,and biofilm-controlling CS-SNCC film has potential for biomedical applications.

Exploring dimensionality effects on cuprates is important for understanding the nature of high-temperature superconductivity.By atomically layer-by-layer growth with oxide molecular beam epitaxy,we demonstrate that La_(2−x)Sr_(x)CuO_(4)(x=0.15)thin films remain superconducting down to 2 unit cells of thickness but quickly reach the maximum superconducting transition temperature at and above 4 unit cells.By fitting the critical magnetic field(μ0H_(c2)),we show that the anisotropy of the film’s superconductivity increases with decreasing film thickness,indicating that the superconductivity of the film gradually evolves from weak three-to two-dimensional character.These results are helpful to gain more insight into the nature of high-temperature superconductivity with dimensionality.

Classical Chinese aesthetics is based on Chinese philosophy.The characteristic of classical Chinese aesthetics regards“artistic conception”as one of the basic aesthetic categories.Chinese art speaks highly of the charm of the black-and-white.During the adaptation,there is the same beauty in the black-and-white photography and the“color without color”of Chinese paintings.The“artistic conception”is similar between them from the aesthetic perspective.Therefore,the unique“artistic conception”of the novel should be mastered,if the adapter aims to retain the“soul”of it.In other words,film adaptation not only considers“similarity in form”,but also draws much attention to“similarity in spirit”.The latter is the essence of film adaptation.
