Drought(water shortage)can substantially limit the yield and economic value of rose plants(Rosa spp.).Here,we characterized the effect of exogenous calcium(Ca^(2+))on the antioxidant system and photosynthesis-related properties of rose under polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG6000)-induced drought *** levels,as well as leaf and root biomass,were significantly reduced by drought;drought also had a major effect on the enzymatic antioxidant system and increased concentrations of reactive oxygen *** of exogenous Ca^(2+)increased the net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance of leaves,enhanced water-use efficiency,and increased the length and width of stomata following exposure to ***-specific physiological responses were observed under different concentrations of Ca^(2+).Application of 5 mmol·L^(-1)Ca^(2+)promoted photosynthesis and antioxidant activity in the leaves,and application of 10 mmol·L^(-1)Ca^(2+)promoted antioxidant activity in the *** of exogenous Ca^(2+)greatly enhanced the phenotype and photosynthetic capacity of potted rose plants following exposure to drought ***,our findings indicate that the application of exogenous Ca^(2+)enhances the drought resistance of roses by promoting physiological adaptation and that it could be used to aid the cultivation of rose plants.

Impacts of exogenous calcium and calcium Inhibitor on Fruit Cracking of Apricot

calcium nitrate and EGTA（ calcium inhibitor） were sprayed on Dafeng Apricot during young fruit period. The results showed that calcium（ Ca） spraying during young fruit period increased Ca and VCcontents in the fruit,improved SOD and POD activities,and declined K content,K/Ca and the occurrence of fruit cracking. When spraying calcium inhibitor during young fruit period,it aggravated fruit cracking.

Effects of exogenous calcium and calcium Ion Inhibitor on Cold Resistance of Pistil of Kernel Apricot

With a kernel apricot cultivar Youzhu 07-3 as the test material, the effects of exogenous calcium and calcium inhibitor on the cold resistance of pistils were investigated. In the bud germination and enlargement period, exogenous calcium and calcium ion inhibitor were sprayed to the kernel apdcot trees, respectively. At the full-bloom stage, a certain number of flower branches of kernel apricot were sam- pied and subjected to low-temperature stress indoor, and the soluble sugar content, MDA content, SOD activity and POD activity in the pistils were determined. The results showed that exogenous calcium increased the soluble sugar content, reduced the MDA content and improved the SOD and POD activity in pistils, and it significantly relieved the cold damage to pistils and improved the cold resistance of pistils; while exogenous calcium ion inhibitor showed the opposite effects.

Changes of Plasma Membrane H^+-ATPase Activities of Glycine max Seeds by PEG Treatment

The soybean （Glycine max） Heihe No. 23 is sensitive to imbibitional chilling injury. Polyethylene glycol （PEG） treatment can improve chilling tolerance of soybean seeds to a certain extent. The changes of hydrolytic ATPase in plasma membranes and H^＋-pumping responses in soybean seeds were investigated during PEG treatments. Effects of exogenous calcium and exogenous ABA on the hydrolytic ATPase were also examined in order to understand the mechanism of chilling resistance. Highly purified plasma membranes were isolated by 6.0% aqueous two-phase partitioning from soybean seeds, as judged by the sensitivity of hydrolytic ATPase to sodium vanadate. PEG treatment resulted in a slight increase of the hydrolytic ATPase activity in 12 h. Then the activity decreased gradually, but still higher than the control. The H^＋-pumping activity increased steadily during PEG treatment. exogenous calcium had both activating and inhibiting effects on the hydrolytic ATPase, but the activity was inhibited in soybean seeds treated with exogenous ABA. Results suggested that PEG treatment, not the exogenous calcium and ABA, up-regulated H^＋-ATPase activities in soybean seeds.
