events can bring important impetus to urban development.In addition to hardware investments,such as infrastructure,events also have important potential in the development of knowledge cities.Nanjing is a typical city where China’s knowledge industry is rapidly growing.Since the end of the last century,Nanjing has been promoting new district development on the city’s periphery and has hosted a series of events,including the 10th National Games in 2005 and the 2nd Youth Olympic Games in 2014.In this process,the city government also hopes to explore the potential of the knowledge economy and is committed to providing a new direction for urban development.This work reviews the history of Nanjing’s knowledge city development from two different dimensions(land development and knowledge development)and summarises the related achievements and lessons in different periods.The authors aim to identify the diverse effects of events in urban social and economic development based on the analysis of the differences in governance structure between land development and knowledge development.This work contributes to the literature on events and provides insights into the potential uses of events as a mechanism for knowledge-driven urban development.

Background There are limited data on the prevalence of electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities, and their value for predicting a major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) in patients at high cardiovascular risk. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of ECG abnormalities in patients at high risk for cardiovascular events, and to identify ECG abnormalities that significantly predict MACE. Methods Patients aged ≥ 45 years with established atherosclerotic disease (EAD) were consecutively enrolled from the outpatient clinics of the six participating hospitals during April 2011 to March 2014. The following data were collected: demographic data, cardiovascular risk factors, history of cardiovascular event, physical examination, ECG and medications. ECG was analyzed using Minnesota Code criteria. MACE included cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and hospitalization due to unstable angina or heart failure. Results A total of 2009 patients were included, 1048 patients (52.2%) had established EAD, and 961 patients (47.8%) had multiple risk factors (MRF). ECG abnormalities included atrial fibrillation (6.7%), premature ventricular contraction (5.4%), pathological Q-wave (Q/QS)(21.3%), T-wave inversion (20.0%), intraventricular ventricular conduction delay (IVCD)(7.3%), left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH)(12.2%), and AV block (12.5%). MACE occurred in 88 patients (4.4%). Independent predictors of MACE were chronic kidney disease, EAD, and the presence of atrial fibrillation, Q/QS, IVCD or LVH by ECG. Conclusions A high prevalence of ECG abnormalities was found. The prevalence of ECG abnormalities was high even among those with risk factors without documented cardiovascular disease.

To test whether circulating and intracoronary biomarkers and coronary plaque strain have additive values to Global Registry of Acute Coronary events(GRACE) score for predicting long-term cardiovascular events in ACS patients. One hundred ACS patients were enrolled and the GRACE score and plasma levels and intracoronary gradients of a number of biomarkers were measured. Coronary plaque burden and morphology in non-critical stenotic plaques were determined by intravascular ultrasound(IVUS) technique, and the maximal shear strain(SSmax) and maximal area strain(ASmax) were determined by intravascular ultrasound elastography(IVUSE) technique. Patients were followed for cardiovascular events and the predictive values of clinical characteristics, plasma biomarkers and plaque parameters were compared with GRACE score, and the incremental values of these measurements to the GRACE score were assessed. GRACE score, plasma biomarkers and plaque strain were independent predictors of cardiovascular events. Combination of GRACE score, plasma biomarkers and plaque strains significantly improved the predictive value of the GRACE score alone with the receiver-operating characteristic area increased from0.457 to 0.667(P=0.014). The combination of circulating and intracoronary biomarkers, plaque strain and GRACE score provides a better predictive tool than GRACE score alone in patients with ACS.

Multi-scale regionalization based mining of spatio-temporal teleconnection patterns between anomalous sea and land climate events

Climate sequences can be applied to defining sensitive climate zones, and then the mining of spatio-temporal teleconnection patterns is useful for learning from the past and preparing for the future. However, scale-dependency in this kind of pattern is still not well handled by existing work. Therefore, in this study, the multi-scale regionalization is embedded into the spatio-temporal teleconnection pattern mining between anomalous sea and land climatic events. A modified scale-space clustering algorithm is first developed to group climate sequences into multi-scale climate zones. Then, scale variance analysis method is employed to identify climate zones at characteristic scales, indicating the main characteristics of geographical phenomena. Finally, by using the climate zones identified at characteristic scales, a time association rule mining algorithm based on sliding time windows is employed to discover spatio-temporal teleconnection patterns. Experiments on sea surface temperature, sea level pressure, land precipitation and land temperature datasets show that many patterns obtained by the multi-scale approach are coincident with prior knowledge, indicating that this method is effective and reasonable. In addition, some unknown teleconnection patterns discovered from the multi-scale approach can be further used to guide the prediction of land climate.

Background:High on-treatment platelet reactivity (HTPR) has been suggested as a risk factor for patients with ischemic vascular disease.We explored a predictive model of platelet reactivity to clopidogrel and the relationship with clinical outcomes.Methods:A total of 441 patients were included.Platelet reactivity was measured by light transmittance aggregometry after receiving dual antiplatelet therapy.HTPR was defined by the consensus cutoff of maximal platelet aggregation >46% by light transmittance aggregometry.CYP2C19 loss-of-function polymorphisms were identified by DNA microarray analysis.The data were compared by binary logistic regression to find the risk factors.The primary endpoint was major adverse clinical events (MACEs),and patients were followed for a median time of 29 months.Survival curves were constructed with Kaplan-Meier estimates and compared by logrank tests between the patients with HTPR and non-HTPR.Results:The rate of HTPR was 17.2%.Logistic regression identified the following predictors of HTPR:age,therapy regimen,body mass index,diabetes history,CYP2C19^*2,or CYP2C19^*3 variant.The area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic for the HTPR predictive model was 0.793 (95% confidence interval:0.738–0.848).Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients with HTPR had a higher incidence of MACE than those with non-HTPR (21.1% vs.9.9%;χ^2 = 7.572,P = 0.010).Conclusions:Our results suggest that advanced age,higher body mass index,treatment with regular dual antiplatelet therapy,diabetes,and CYP2C19^*2 or CYP2C19^*3 carriers are significantly associated with HTPR to clopidogrel.The predictive model of HTPR has useful discrimination and good calibration and may predict long-term MACE.

Based on a new multi-source dataset (GLDP-V1.0) recently developed in China Meteorological Administration, we employed precipitation indices including percentile-based indices of light (below the 50th percentile), moderate (between the 50th and 90th percentile), and intense (above the 90th percentile) precipitation, maximum 1-day, 3-day, and 5-day precipitation amounts (RX1DAY, RX3DAY, and RX5DAY, respectively), and consecutive wet and dry days (CWDs and CDDs) to analyze variations in extreme precipitation events in the Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) during 1961e2012. The main results are presented as follows. Firstly, there was a significant increase in the amount of light and moderate precipitation and number of associated days over various parts of India and northern Tibetan Plateau during 1961e2012; but the intensity of light precipitation decreased significantly in the Hindu Kush and central India, and the regional average intensity also decreased. Secondly, the amount and frequency of intense precipitation mostly increased significantly on the Tibetan Plateau, but there was a heterogeneous change over the remainder of the HKH, and regional average annual intense precipitation amount and frequency significantly increased over the HKH during 1961e2012. Thirdly, regional average RX1DAY, RX3DAY, and RX5DAYall showed significant upward trends during 1961e2012, and there was a significant increased tendency of consecutive wet-days in most parts of the study region; however, trends of consecutive dry-days were mostly opposite to those of consecutive wet-days, with regional averaged consecutive dry-days showing no noticeable trend.

This paper presents a concise summary of recent studies on the long-term variations of haze in NorthChina and on the environmental and dynamic conditions for severe persistent haze events. Resultsindicate that haze days have an obviously rising trend over the past 50 years in North China. Theoccurrence frequency of persistent haze events has a similar rising trend due to the continuous riseof winter temperatures, decrease of surface wind speeds, and aggravation of atmospheric stability. InNorth China, when severe persistent haze events occur, anomalous southwesterly winds prevail in thelower troposphere, providing sufficient moisture for the formation of haze. Moreover, North China ismainly controlled by a deep downdraft in the mid-lower troposphere, which contributes to reducing thethickness of the planetary boundary layer, obviously reducing the atmospheric capacity for pollutants.This atmospheric circulation and sinking motion provide favorable conditions for the formation andmaintenance of haze in North China.

This study uses the CMA (China Meteorological Administration) global land-surface daily air temperature dataset V1.0 (GLSATD V1.0) to analyze long-term changes in extreme temperature events over the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) during 1961e2015. Results show there was a significant decrease in the number of extreme cold events (cold nights, cold days, and frost days) but a significant increase in the number of extreme warm events (warm nights, warm days, and summer days) over the entire HKH during 1961e2015. For percentile-based indices, trends of extreme events related to minimum temperature (Tmin) were greater in magnitude than those related to maximum temperature (Tmax). For absolute-value based indices, maximum Tmax, minimum Tmin, and summer days all show increasing trends, while frost days and the diurnal temperature range (DTR) show significant decreasing trends. In addition, there was a decrease in extreme cold events in most parts of east HKH, particularly in Southwest China and the Tibetan Plateau, while there was a general increase in extreme warm events over the entire HKH. Finally, the change in extreme cold events in the HKH appears to be more sensitive to elevation (with cold nights and cold days decreasing with elevation), whereas the change in warm extremes (warm nights, warm days, and maximum Tmax) shows no detectable relationship with elevation. Frost days and minimum Tmin also have a good relationship with elevation, and the trend in frost days decreases with an increase in elevation while the trend in minimum Tmin increases with an increase in elevation.

Adverse events related to colonoscopy: Global trends and future challenges

Colonoscopy is a widely used method for diagnosing and treating colonic disease. The number of colonoscopies is increasing worldwide, and concerns about associated adverse events are growing. Large-scale studies using big data for post-colonoscopy complications have been reported. A colon perforation is a severe complication with a relatively high mortality rate. The perforation rate, as reported in large studies(≥ 50,000 colonoscopies) published since 2000, ranges from 0.005-0.085%. The trend in the overall perforation rate in the past 15 years has not changed significantly. Bleeding is a more common adverse event than perforation. Recent large studies(≥ 50,000 colonoscopies) have reported postcolonoscopy bleeding occurring in 0.001-0.687% of cases. Most studies about adverse events related to colonoscopy were performed in the West, and relatively few studies have been conducted in the East. The incidence of post-colonoscopy complications increases in elderly patients or patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. It is important to use a unified definition and refined data to overcome the limitations of previous studies. In addition, a structured training program for endoscopists and a systematic national management program are needed to reduce post-colonoscopy complications. In this review, we discuss the current trends in colonoscopy related to adverse events, as well as the challenges to be addressed through future research.

An extreme （weather and climate） event does not only mean that an extreme occurs at a location, but more generally it can impact a certainarea and last a certain period of time, which is defined as a regional extreme event （REE） with a certain impacted area and duration. The conceptof REE has been defined to allow mainly objective assessment of the events without a pre-determined boundary and duration. This paper reviewsthe studies on REEs published during the past 20 years, especially recent years. Mainly in view of methodology, these studies can be divided intothree types studies focusing on spatial simultaneity, studies focusing on temporal persistence, and studies identifying REEs. The methodsidentifying REEs include two kinds, e.g., type-I methods stressing REE＇s temporal persistence within a relatively certain area and type-IImethods focusing on catching a complete REE. Identification methods proposed in this paper could provide valuable information for variouspurposes, such as real-time monitoring, estimating long-term changes, mechanism diagnosis, forecasting study and even attribution analysis.Research on REEs is important for objectively defining extreme weather and climate events, which depends on the spatial and temporal scales ofinterest. Such an objective definition will support ongoing climate monitoring and improve the assessment of how regional extreme events havechanged over time.
