A new complex of {[Eu2(2-BrBA)6(2,2’-bpy)2]2·CH3CH2OH·H2O} (2-BrBA=2-bromobenzoate; 2,2’-bpy=2,2’-bipyridine) was prepared by solvent method and characterized with X-ray single-crystal diffraction, IR spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The complex crystallized in triclinic crystal system, Pī space group, with a=1.17196(4) nm, b=2.36142(9) nm, c=2.59151(9) nm, α=113.266(2)°, β=101.100(2)°, and γ=94.400(2)°. Two independent dinuclear molecules were contained in the asymmetric unit. The two molecules were similar to each other. Each Eu(Ⅲ) ion was nine-coordinated with seven oxygen atoms from five 2-BrBA ligands and two nitrogen atoms from 2,2’-bpy molecule. The carboxylate groups acted as bidentate-chelating, bidentate-bridging and chelating-bridging coordination modes. The complex adopted a distorted monocapped square-antiprism coordination geometry. Five peaks at 579, 591, 613, 652, and 697 nm appeared in the fluorescence spectrum, corresponding to 5D0→7F0, 5D0→7F1, 5D0→7F2, 5D0→7F3, and 5D0→7F4 transition emissions of the Eu(Ⅲ) ion, respectively.

A new complex Eu2（PA）6（phen）2 was prepared with hydrothermal reaction using EuCl3.6H2O, phenylmalonic acid （H2phma）, and 1, 10-phenanthroline （phen）, where PA was the decarboxylated product of HEphma, phenylacetate. The crystal structure of the title complex was determined with the X-ray diffraction. The title complex was a binuclear molecule with an inversion center. Each Eu^3＋ ion was nine-coordinated with two nitrogen atoms from one phen molecule and seven oxygen atoms from five PA ligands. The carboxylic groups were bonded to the Eu^3＋ ion in three modes, the chelating bidentate, the bridging bidentate, and the bridging-chelating tridentate. The complex emits intense red fluorescence under ultraviolet light. The luminescence peaks correspond to the characteristic emission 5D0→7FJ （J=0-4） transitions of the Eu^3＋ ion.

A ligand, 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline (phenNO2), was synthesized. Its Eu(III) complex with 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) was prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectra. The photophysical properties of the complex were studied in detail by using UV, luminescence spectra, luminescence lifetime and quantum yield. The complex exhibited nearly monochromatic red emission at 612 nm, a remarkable luminescence quantum yield at room temperature (36.0%) upon ligand excitation and a long 5D0 lifetime (458 μs), which indicated that the ligand phenNO2 could sensitize the luminescence of Eu(III) ion efficiently.

A novel organic ligand, 6 (ortho methyl anilino carbonyl) 2 pyridine carboxylic acid (H o MAP), and the corresponding europium complex, tris(6 (ortho methyl anilino carbonyl) 2 pyridine carboxylato) europium (Eu o MAP) were designed and synthesized. The results show that solid Eu o MAP is a conjugated complex, emitting strong red fluorescence dominantly due to a ligand sensitizd luminescence mechanism. The lifetimes of 5D 0 of Eu 3+ in the complex were examined using time-resolved spectroscopic analysis, and the lifetime values were (1.50±0.01) ms for solid Eu(o MAP) 3 and (1.10±0.01) ms for 1.0×10 -5 mol·L -1 Eu(o MAP) 3 ethanol solution, respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the europium complex has good thermal stability.

A new europium（Ⅲ） complex, tris（dibertzoylmethanate）{ 1-[9-hexyl-9-carbazole]-2-（2-pyridyl）-bertzimidazole}europium（Ⅲ） [Eu（DBM）a（CPyBM）] was synthesized and used as an electron-acceptor and electron-transport layer in organic photovoltaic （PV） device. Power conversion efficiency achieved from the device was 1.04% under illumination with 365 nm UV light at 1.6 mW/cm^2. Compared with the previous reported devices based on Eu（Ⅲ） complexes, the PV performances were improved. The working mechanism of the organic PV device was discussed.

The complex [Eu（3-IBA）3·2,2＇-bipy]2 was synthesized from 3-iodobenzoic acid （3-HIBA）, 2,2＇-bipyridine （2,2‘-bipy） and EuCl3·6H2O by hydrothermal synthesis, and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. It is of triclinic, space group Pi, with a = 10.958（2）, b = 12.311（3）, c = 12.556（3） A, α = 81.549（3）, β = 82.404（4）, γ = 78.348（3）°, Mr = 1049.15, V= 1631.7（6） A3, Z = 1, Dc = 2.135 g/cm^3, F（000） = 980, 2（MoKa） = 0.71073 A,μ（MoKa） = 4.804 mm^-1, the final R = 0.0329 and wR = 0.0723 for 4640 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ（I）. The Eu（Ⅲ） ion is eight-coordinated and two Eu（Ⅲ） ions are held together by four 3-iodobenzoate groups in the bidentate bridging mode. The complex was characterized by DTA-TG, IR, UV and fluorescence spectra.

Tris (thenoyltrifluoroacetonato) mono(9-octadecylamino-4,5-diazafluorene) europium (III) was synthesized. Stable floating monolayer on pure water subphase (18 degrees C, pH 5.6) was obtained with a collapse pressure of 40 mN/m and a zero-pressure area of 0.495 nm(2) molecule(-1). The monolayers can be transferred onto hydrophilically treated substrates of quartz, calcium fluoride at a surface pressure of 25 mN/m with a transfer ratio of ca. unity. The films were characterized by UV, IR and fluorescent spectroscopy.

Terpyridine-capped poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG） was synthesized as a novel polymeric ligand and rare earth complex was prepared from Eu（NO3）3 and the telechelic macromolecules. The structure of the complex was characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR, UV-vis and fluores-cence spectroscopy. Strong fluorescent emission of the complex was observed at 593 and 616 nm upon the excitation of 300 nm. The fluo-rescent emission was quenched upon addition of trace amount of diethyl chlorophosphate （DCP）. And the observed Ksv values for DCP were measured to be 0.568×10^3 and 0.89×10^3 L/mol for quenching at 593 and 616 nm, which indicated the detection limit for DCP was about 0.014 mmol/L. These results showed that the terpyridine-lanthanide complex could be an effective chemosensor with a potential application in the detection of organophosphates.
