Background:Adolescence is a critical,multifactorial developmental *** the current pandemic of COVID-19,excessive using of electronic devices is a public health *** aim of this study is to investigate the relation-ship between depression and the use of electronic devices among secondary school children in Jazan,Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 *** and Methods:The study is an observational,cross-sectional *** was collected using an anonymous online survey *** the Depression Anxiety Stress ***:A total of 427 participants were included in the *** prevalence of depression,anxiety,and stress in our study was 14.55%,12.01%,and 15.55%,*** the hours spent on electronic devices,13.6%of participants spent 1–4 h,43.6%spent 5–9 h,and 42.9%spent 10 h or more.86.7%reported an increase in their use of electronic devices during *** regression analysis revealed that the increase of Videogame Addiction Scale for Chil-dren is signiﬁcantly associated with an increase in Depression,Anxiety,and Stress scores(p-valuehealth *** also found signiﬁcantly increased use of electronic device during the COVID-19 lockdown;hence,more mental issues were *** is obvious that electronic device use needs to be more controlled among *** can be achieved by involving those who are in this age group in other activities,like sports,which can reduce the time they spend on electronic device.

In 2010, an estimated 400 to 500 children died of acute lead poisoning associated with artisanal gold mining in Zamfara, Nigeria. Processing of gold ores containing up to 10% lead within residential compounds put residents, especially children, at the highest risk. Principal routes of exposure were incidental ingestion and inhalation of contaminated soil and dusts. Several Nigerian and international health organizations collaborated to reduce lead exposures through environmental remediation and medical treatment. The contribution of contaminated food to total lead exposure was assessed during the environmental health response. Objectives of this investigation were to assess the influence of cultural/dietary habits on lead exposure pathways and estimate the contribution of contaminated food to children＇s blood lead levels（BLLs）. A survey of village dietary practices and staple food lead content was conducted to determine dietary composition, caloric intakes, and lead intake. Potential blood lead increments were estimated using bio-kinetic modeling techniques. Most dietary lead exposure was associated with contamination of staple cereal grains and legumes during post-harvest processing and preparation in contaminated homes. Average post-harvest and processed cereal grain lead levels were 0.32 mg/kg and 0.85 mg/kg dry weight, respectively. Age-specific food lead intake ranged from 7 to 78 μg/day. Lead ingestion and absorption were likely aggravated by the dusty environment, fasting between meals, and nutritional deficiencies. Contamination of staple cereal grains by highly bioavailable pulverized ores could account for as much as 11%–34% of children＇s BLLs during the epidemic, and were a continuing source after residential soil remediation until stored grain inventories were exhausted.

The population of a neighborhood in the city of Córdoba presents general irritant symptoms since a bioethanol distillery began to operate there, from which formaldehyde, toluene, xylene mainly emanate. At the request of the community, collective environmental health was evaluated with a cross-sectional study of prevalence of these conditions. 53% of the residents reported respiratory disorders, conjunctivitis 31%, headaches 27%, dermatitis 23% and dyspepsia 22%. 57% of children aged 6 - 7 use bronchodilators (an indicator of asthma). 66% of the population has one of these conditions, 46% has two and 26% has three;children are the most affected. The results coincide with the Consensus on Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome in that it is reproducible by repeated chemical exposure, is chronic and does not improve without eliminating exposure, affecting multiple organs and systems. 14.8% of newborns feature malformations, while in the rest of the city, only 1.7% did. Similar to the Sick Building Syndrome, the collective health picture found suggests a “Sick Neighborhood Syndrome”.

Following the advent of the Industrial Revolution, plastic pollution has been a serious environmental issue while micro- and nano-plastics have been a cynosure of researchers’ attention in the twenty-first century. This is due to the improved knowledge of its ecotoxicological effects and the global pushforward towards sustainability. There is a growing concern that the increasing presence of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) in aquatic habitats poses a threat to marine life, and it is predicted that nanoplastics will be just as ubiquitous as macro- and micro-plastics, but far more destructive to living organisms due to their ability to infiltrate cells. Recent research has shown that marine and freshwater biota become entangled with plastic litter, which disrupts the ecosystem. Aquatic creatures are known to absorb and deposit these new pollutants in their digestive systems, as has been documented in several studies. More recent research has also examined their co-occurrence and toxicity with other emerging contaminants, including their prevalence and effects in food, air, and soil. Using articles extracted from a six-year period from Scopus, ACS Publications and Google Scholar, this review explores the origins, fates, occurrence in the food chain, exposure routes, cellular interactions of microplastics and nano-plastics, in addition to the ecotoxicological impacts, analytical methods, and the potential remedies for combating pollution and toxicity. Ultimately, this review is a comprehensive, updated addendum to available reviews on micro- and nano-plastics.

Background:Heatwaves have a significant impact on population health including both morbidity and *** this study we examined the association between heatwaves and emergency hospital admissions(EHAs)for renal diseases in children(aged 0-14 years)in Brisbane,***:Daily data on EHAs for renal diseases in children and exposure to temperature and air pollution were obtained for Brisbane city from January 1,1996 to December 31,2005.A time-stratified case-crossover design was used to compare the risks for renal diseases between heatwave and non-heatwave ***:There were 1565 EHAs for renal diseases in children during the study *** exhibited a signifi cant impact on EHAs for renal diseases in children after adjusting for confounding factors(odds ratio:3.6;95%confidence interval:1.4-9.5).The risk estimates differed with lags and the use of different heatwave defi ***:There was a significant increase in EHAs for renal diseases in children during heatwaves in Brisbane,a subtropical city where people are well accustomed to warm *** finding may have significant implications for pediatric renal care,particularly in subtropical and tropical regions.

Background: The OFD business has been a booming industry in China in recent years. The total market scale and users of OFD were about 727 billion Chinese yuan and about 412 million in 2019, respectively. This trend has brought opportunities to improve food availability and accessibility whereas it has caused unavoidable challenges to the public health system as well as the social-economic environment in China. Emerging research has suggested that the food environment may impact people’s dietary behaviors and diet-related diseases. However, research on the OFD industry and its impacts on the social-economic environment and public health system in China are limited. Aims: 1. To investigate the impacts of the OFD service on social-economic health, public health, and environmental health. 2. To discuss new strategies and regulations from the OFD platform, food providers, and governments in China. Methods I searched on the Pubmed, Google, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure database for relevant studies by the following keywords, ‘online food delivery’ and ‘meal delivery’. The research was restricted to sources published between January 2011 and June 2021 available in English and Chinese, as the focus was on the recent development of the OFD industry in China. The research scanning also included books and book chapters, government policies, reports, working papers, and other grey literature. The evidence sources containing information about characteristics of the OFD industry, its impacts(including economic, social, environmental health), and related government policies and regulations of OFD platforms currently implemented in China were included. Related information and data were collected and analyzed following the guidelines of a systematic review. Results 1. 当下人们对于环境卫生的标准和病菌较多场所的消毒工作重视程度日益提高，对于消杀设备存在的必要性更加认同。2020年国家卫健委发布了《关于全面精准开展环境卫生和消毒工作的通知》，要求各地要进一步开展环境卫生和消毒工作。同时，也要求各地加强消毒培训与科普宣传，提升居民文明意识和健康卫生意识，养成良好的卫生习惯。可以预见，随着人们对于健康安全的重视程度提高，以及科技创新的推动，消毒器械的市场需求将持续增长。而现今部分消杀装置仍存在一些问题。籍此，本人通过对当下环境卫生市场的调研和需求进行分析，而后采用模块化的设计，针对不同的消毒需求和不同消毒场景进行细分，实现了多功能全方位的消杀装置设计，并为未来消毒器械的发展提供一定参考意义。

The increase in the number of liver related disease patients from north western region of Ethiopia has been an environmental health issue of national concern. As the disease is restricted to a specific geographical terrain, particularly to Shire area, northwestern dry zone of the country, detail research studies are required to identify possible etiology and risk factors. The aim of the study is to determine the level of trace element and heavy metal concentrations and distributions in water and stream sediments of the area and identify the possible sources in relation to human health. During the study, geochemical sampling (20 water, 20 stream sediment and 6 rock samples) was carried out in March 2011. The collected samples were analyzed for their major and trace element contents using ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Ion Chromatography (IC), and XRF. Analytical data were organized and treated using Excel, SPSS, ArcGIS and Aquachem softwares. Analytical data results with respect to trace element contents in surface and ground waters are compared with the Maximum Acceptable Concentration or Maximum Allowable Concentration (MAC) of World health Organization (WHO) and Ethiopian standards for drinking water. The comparison reveals that there are problematic elements that pass over the quality standards set for drinking water. One of these is: Bromine (Br), for which 100% all samples have value above 0.01 mg/l and up to 1.475 mg/l. Other problematic elements including aluminum (Al)—30%, fluorine (F)—20%, arsenic (As)—10%, and nitrate (NO3)—10% are examples of elements which have above WHO-MAC for drinking water. Selenium (Se) deficiency may be the other problematic element in the area for its deficiency is associated with liver damage and heart muscle disorder. The metal contaminations (i.e. heavy metals) were also evaluated by world geochemical background value in average shale and sediment quality guideline proposed by US EPA. Analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the Barker Reservoir in Houston, Texas, United States is reported. Samples were collected within one week after the August 2017 Hurricane Harvey. Using a gas chromatograph equipped with a mass spectrometer, 4 VOCs and 13 PAHs were found in the Barker Reservoir. Concentrations of acetone, benzene, chloroform, and toluene were 1500, 380, 830, and 290 parts per million (ppm), respectively. Benzene and chloroform are classified as probable human carcinogens by the U.S. environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Six PAHs including benzo[a]anthracene, benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, chrysene, and dibenz[a,h]anthracene are probable human carcinogens. The most concentrated PAH was acenaphthylene at 0.068 ppm, while the least one was fluoranthene at 0.00046 ppm. Results revealed water contaminants in Houston and its vicinities during the flooding season and served as references for water monitoring purposes in the future.
