Ovarian endometrioid carcinoma resembling sex cord-stromal tumor:A case report

BACKGROUND Ovarian endometrioid carcinoma resembling sex cord-stromal tumor(ECSCSs)is *** SUMMARY We present a rare case of primary ECSCSs in the left ovary.A 39-year-old female patient had persistent dull pain in the lower abdomen for more than 1 mo,and she was initially diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease at a *** patient received transabdominal hysterectomy,bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy,and pelvic and para-aortic lymph node dissection at our hospital and finally diagnosed with *** the operation,the patient received eight courses of cisplatinum+etoposide+bleomycin chemotherapy treatment and no evidence of tumor recurrence or metastasis was found in a 2-year follow-up *** Ovarian endometrioid carcinoma is similar to the ovary sex cord-stromal tumor,especially when the cord-like structure is *** clinical diagnosis for this tumor is difficult before surgery and pathology *** necessary immunohistochemical markers are of positive significance for assisting diagnosis and differential diagnosis.

OVEREXPRESSION OF p53, EGFR,C-ERBB2 AND C-ERBB3 IN endometrioidcarcinoma OF THE OVARY

Objectives. To determine overexpression of p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 in endometrioid carcinoma of the ovary and to evaluate the prognostic significance of these results, especially, coexisting overexpression of p53 and one of the member of type I growth factor receptor ***. Overexpressions of the p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 protein were studied by im-munohistochemistry in paraffin-embedded tumor tissue from 28 patients with endometrioid carcinoma of the ***. 11 (39.3%), 13 (46. 4%), and 14 (50. 0%) were stained positively with p53, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 monoclonal antibodies. 13 (46- 4%) was stained positively with EGFR polyclonal antibody. There were no relationship between p53, EGFR, C-erbB-2, c-erbB-3 and histologic grade, lymph node metastasis. The percentage of tumors with over expression of p53, EGFR, C-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 was higher in those with stage Ⅱ-Ⅲ tumors compared with those with stage Ⅰ , in patients with residual tumor after initial surgery compared with those without. A high survival rate was observed in patients without p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 overexpression respectively than those with. A highest survival rate was observed in patients with both p53 and one of EGFR, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 negative compared with those both positive or either of both ***. Overexpression of p53, EGFR, c-erbB-2 and C-erbB-3 resulted in a poorer prognosis respectively. Overexpression of both p53 and one of the EGFR, c-erbB-2 and c-erbB-3 is a worse prognostic indicator in patients with endometrioid carcinoma of the ovary.

Pathological conditions predisposing to infertility and gynaecological neoplasia

Some of the conditions long blamed for female factor infertility are now acknowledged as well established risk factors of gynecological neoplasia. This realization has lead to the proposition that infertility might be a risk factor for the development of several types of gynecological neoplasms. This review addresses different conditions that play a role in both infertility and gynaecological neoplasia. An intricate interplay between growth factors and hormonal factors(estrogens and progestins, androgens and gonadotropins) is said to link the state of infertility to some gynecological tumors. The relation between endometriosis-as one of the well established causes of female infertility- and ovarian cancer is well known. Endometriosis has been particularly related to endometrioid and clear-cell ovarian carcinomas. Another evidence for this association is embodied in finding endometriotic lesions adjacent to ovarian cancers. The polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS), one of the most prevalent endocrine disorders and a long studied cause of female infertility increases the risk of endometrial carcinoma. The link between PCOS and endometrial carcinoma seems to be endometrial hyperplasia. PCOS-associated endometrial carcinoma tends to present at a younger age and early stage, with lower grade and lower risk of metastasis. Turner's syndrome and other types of ovarian dysgenesis constitutea rare cause of infertility and are known to confer a definite risk of germ cell tumors. There seems to be a link between infertility and an increased risk of gynecological neoplasia. Hence, it is important to assess the risk of malignancy in each category of infertile patients so as to provide optimal and timely intervention.
