Effect of domestically-made levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG, release rate: 6 μg/day) on the endocrine system and menstruation in mondeys was investigated. The results showed that the Estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) levels were significantly decreased 2 ovulatory cycles after iusertion of the devices as compared with those before insertion in 3 monkeys (P>0. 001) ,suggesting an evident ovulation-suppressing effect. In 1 monkey, the E2 and P levels were the same before and after insertion,and expulsion of device was found in the monkey later. The plasma LNG concentration in 3 animals was 493. 69-454. 60 pg/ml and plasma LNG was not detected in 1 monkey. The hormone level returned to normal level after removal of the devices.

BACKGROUND Myocardial bridging is a common anatomical malformation,and the milking effect is a characteristic phenomenon of myocardial bridging in coronary angiography.Generally,the phenomenon is invariable.However,this article reports an inconceivably rare myocardial bridging phenomenon that breaks through our conventional views.The milking effect changed obviously in two coronary angiography examinations,which subverted the traditional deep-rooted view of the myocardial bridging phenomenon and revealed the limitations of coronary angiography in diagnosing myocardial bridging and judging the prognosis of it.CASE SUMMARY A 63-year-old man was diagnosed with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and received primary percutaneous coronary intervention on December 26,2019.His heart rate was 104 beats per minute,and blood pressure was 15.3/10.3 kPa.A severe milking effect was found in the left anterior descending coronary artery during his index coronary angiography on January 14,2020.The patient was given intensive medical management,including aβ1-adrenergic receptor blocker,during hospitalization and after discharge.Unexpectedly,coronary angiography showed that the previous impressive milking effect was dramatically alleviated(close to normal)at the follow-up on October 13,2020.At that moment,the patient’s heart rate was 83 beats per minute,and blood pressure was 12.7/8.0 kPa.CONCLUSION The myocardial bridging phenomenon is not invariable and,in certain circumstances,may vary.Furthermore,the autonomic nervous system may be involved in the myocardial bridging phenomenon.

Tetrabromobisphenol A(TBBPA)is a flame retardant that adversely affects the environment and human health.The present study exposed HepG2 cells to low concentrations of TBBPA daily to investigate the changes in gene regulation,mainly related to pathways associated with the endocrine system.The quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR)confirmed that prolonged exposure gradually activated the thyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone signaling pathways.The expression levels of genes related to the thyroid hormone signaling pathway were upregulated(1.15-8.54 times)after five generations of exposure to 1 and 81 nM TBBPA.Furthermore,co-exposure to 81 nM TBBPA and 0.5 nM thyroid hormone receptor antagonist for five generations significantly reduced the expression of thyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone receptors.Meanwhile,81 nM TBBPA inhibited the activation of the Ras pathway and downregulated Ras gene expression level(3.7 times),indicating the association between the toxic effect and thyroid hormone receptors.Additionally,our experiments revealed that the thyroid hormone pathway regulated the induction of the Ras signaling pathway by TBBPA.The study thus proves that daily exposure to TBBPA interferes with the thyroid hormone signaling pathway and subsequently the endocrine system.

An overview of the contribution of acupuncture to thyroid disorders

Thyroid dysfunction, affecting people of all ages, not only damages human growth and energy metabo- lism but is also comorbid with other illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease and gastroin- testinal disorders. With the increasing acceptance of alternative and complementary therapies, acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medical practice, has also been employed to address this problem. Analysing 29 clinical projects that were retrieved from 29 major digital databases and include 1757 patients aged 7-79 years from China, Italy, Korea, Macedonia and Russia, this narrative review offers an overview of the efficacy, and evaluated the safe and cost-effective use of acupuncture against hyper- thyroidism, hypothyroidism and thyroid-relevant illnesses. Findings indicated reductions in patient symptoms and improvements in biomarkers where acupuncture was used alone or in combination ther- apy. In addition to showing the role of acupuncture as an alternative and complementary medicine or as an adjunctive therapy for curative and rehabilitative purposes, more well-designed researches are needed to achieve reliable data.

Effect of Schisandra Chinensis on Interleukins,Glucose Metabolism,and Pituitary-Adrenal and Gonadal Axis in Rats under Strenuous Swimming Exercise

Objective： To investigate the effect of Chinese medicine （CM） Schisandra chinensis on interleukin （IL）, glucose metabolism, and pituitary-adrenal and gonadal axis of rats after strenuous navigation and exercise. Methods： A total of 45 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized into the quiet control group, the stress group, and the CM group （15 in each group）. The CM group received 2.5 g/kg of Schisandra chinensis twice per day for one week before modeling. Except the quiet controls, rats were trained using the Bedford mode for 10 days. On the 11th day, they performed 3 h of stressful experimental navigation and 3 h of strenuous treadmill exercise. The levels of serum testosterone （T）, cortisol （CORT）, luteinizing hormone （LH）, IL-1, IL-2, and IL-6 were tested by radioimmunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The adrenal cortex ultrastructure was observed using electron microscopy. Results： Compared with the quiet control group, after navigation and strenuous exercise, blood glucose was increased, and T level was decreased in the stress group （both P〈0.01）. The blood glucose, CORT, IL-1 and IL-2 levels were significantly reduced in the CM group （P〈0.05 or P〈0.01） as compared with the stress group. Electron microscopy revealed that the rats in the CM group had a smaller decrease in adrenal intracellular lipid droplets and higher levels of apoptosis than those in the stress group. Conclusions： Schisandra chinensis can reduce serum CORT and blood glucose levels in stressed rats. It appears to protect the cell structure of the adrenal cortex, and offset the negative effects of psychological stress and strenuous exercise related to immune dysfunction. Schisandra chinensis plays a regulatory role in immune function, and can decrease the influence of stress in rats.

Glucose tolerance and insulin release aretested in 146 women taking compound quinestrol(CQ,an oral contraceptive)monthly,in 23 nor-mal subjects and 12 diabetics.The curves ofglucose tolerance,insulin release,release indexduring different phases and ∑IRI(immuno-reactive insulin)-BG(blood glucose)distributionare compared to study the clinical significance ofdecreased glucose tolerance observed in some ofthe subjects taking CQ.It is found in this series that the insulin re-lease curve,45 minute release index and ∑ IRI-BG distribution of subjects receiving the CQpill all approximate those of normal subjects anddiffer from those of diabetics.Furthermore,theglucose intolerance accompanied by more activeinsulin reaction caused by CQ may graduallyameliorate or revert to normal after withdrawalof the drug,which is rarely seen in diabetics.Therefore,it is believed that the glucose into-lerance may be related to temporary CQ effecton the metabolism of carbohydrates or insulin.

While treatment for burn injury has improved significantly over the past few decades,reducing mortality and improving patient outcomes,recent evidence has revealed that burn injury is associated with a number of secondary pathologies,many of which arise long after the initial injury has healed.Population studies have linked burn injury with increased risk of cancer,cardiovascular disease,nervous system disorders,diabetes,musculoskeletal disorders,gastrointestinal disease,infections,anxiety and depression.The wide range of secondary pathologies indicates that burn can cause sustained disruption of homeostasis,presenting new challenges for post-burn care.Understanding burn injury as a chronic disease will improve patient care,providing evidence for better long-term support and monitoring of patients.Through focused research into the mechanisms underpinning long-term dysfunction,a better understanding of burn injury pathology may help with the development of preventative treatments to improve long-term health outcomes.The review will outline evidence of long-term health effects,possible mechanisms linking burn injury to long-term health and current research into burns as a chronic disease.

Objective:The research indicated that the nature of Chinese medicine is mainly related to body's substance and energy metabolism.The purpose of the study is to elucidate the substance basis for warm nature of Poria cocos(called Fuling(FL)in Chinese).Methods:In terms of the effects of its separated fractions on the substance and energy metabolism in rat models of cold-deficiency with Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata(called Fuzi(FZ)in Chinese),with hot nature,as reference drug.Biochemical indexes in the material metabolism,energy metabolism,endocrine system,nervous system and nucleotide system were determined,then analyzed by additive,cluster and principal component analysis(PCA).Results:The medicinal natures of oligosaccharides and amino acids fractions were attributable to plain and crude polysaccharides,volatile oils and triterpenoids fractions were attributable to mild warm.Conclusion:The nature of FL was regarded as mild warm based on the old records of Chinese medicine and fractions of crude polysaccharides,volatile oils and triterpenoids might be the main substance basis for the warm nature of FL.It is the first time that substance basis of FL was elucidated from view point of medicinal nature.

Present article discusses the physiological mechanisms of the state employees adaptation during active training in temporary groups. It is suggested that adaptive mechanisms to adverse effects may be studied basing on the concept of functional isomorphism of the psychic and immune systems. Adaptive mechanisms were studied through the monitoring of the stress factors’ impact upon the law enforcement officers when training outside the places of permanent deployment. The specific purpose of present study was to evaluate the physiological indicators of the psychic, immune and endocrine systems dynamics at different stages of adaptation of the live organism to a stressful situation, hoping to get better insight into possible relations between psychic and immune domains. Through monitoring of the dynamics of the endocrine and immune responses to the psychic stimuli, it was possible to correlate the stages of the stress onset to the phases of specific immune reactions. Strong correlations between the parameters characterizing activation of the psychic and immune responses support the hypothesis of the presence of “strong cooperation” between psychic and immune domains. It supports earlier hypothesis that we are monitoring different manifestations of the functioning of a complex inseparable psycho-immune meta-system.
