Three-dimensional mathematical models were developed for studying the molten steel flow and the trajectories of inclusions and bubbles in continuous casting mold with electromagnetic *** results show that the effect of the electromagnetic brake on the molten steel flow and the movement of inclusions and bubbles depends on the position of electromagnetic *** EMBR Ruler is installed at the exit of the submerged entry nozzle,the velocity of the main jet of molten steel from the nozzle can be decreased effectively,the velocity of the molten steel streams near the free surface and the narrow face is reduced obviously;Meantime more inclusions and bubbles could float up to the slag layer.

The present work numerically investigates two-dimensional （2-D） solidification transport phenomena （EM-STP） during continuous casting （CC） process in the absence and the presence of static magnetic fields （SMFs）, based on a unified numerical model. For the purpose of controlling vortexes, the electromagnetic brake （EMBR） effects of various SMFs under the given depth of submerged entry nozzle （SEN） and the same casting velocity V0 are investigated. ANSYS software is used to analyze the SMFs that applied to the EMCC process, and then a data-conversion program based on the principle of linear interpolation proposed previously is used to deal with the issue of data-format-matching between FEM and FVM. The simulation results indicate that, an appropriate SMF can effectively suppress the bulk liquid flow in CC-process of steel plate, and with in- crease of the intensity of applied magnetic fields, the vortexes become weaker and the oscillating amplitude of impinging jet decreases. Based on the knowledge gained from the EMCC-STP analysis and by comparing the re- sults with the applied magnetic fields with those without magnetic fields, it is found that a SMF with 丨 Bmax 丨 = 5.5 × 10 -3 T can meet the need of braking, and consequently improve the quality of casting by reducing the penetration of non-metallic inclusions, as well as avoiding breakout, macro-segregation and crack ultimately.

The current work combines numerical and experimental investigations based on a small-scale mockup using the eutectic alloy *** jet flow discharging from the submerged entry nozzle was exposed perpendicularly to a DC magnetic field across the entire wide face of the *** calculations were performed by using the commercial package CFX with an implemented RANS-SST turbulence *** anisotropic properties of the MHD turbulence were taken into account by specific modifications of the turbulence *** comparison between our numerical calculations and the experimental results shows a very well *** particular,the modified RANS-SST turbulence model is capable to reconstruct the peculiar phenomenon of the excitation of non-steady,non-isotropic large-scale flow perturbations caused by the application of the DC magnetic *** important finding of our study is the feature that the electrical boundary conditions,namely the wall conductivity ratio,have a great impact on the mold flow subjected to an external magnetic field.

Large eddy simulation model with magnetohydrodynamics(MHD)is developed to study the effect of electromagnetic braker(EMBr)on molten steel flow and transport of argon bubbles in the continuous casting process. The large eddy simulation with Smagorinsky sub-grid scale model is used to calculate the turbulent *** results indicate that the magnetic force can optimize the molten steel flow pattern in the braking *** flow is asymmetric, especially in the lower of the mold,even if with applied electromagnetic *** flow deviation of the molten steel in the mold is inevitable *** bubbles tend to release from the top surface with LMF-EMBr,while,FCMF-EMBr has little effect on the overall removal fraction of bubbles,but it affects the trajectory of bubbles.

＜正＞Based on MHD theory, mathematical model of metal fluid flow in the mould installed electromagnetic field was established;SIMPLE code for computing fluid field was programmed using Visual C++6.0 software, adopting interleaving mesh and iterative routine of line-by-line with block amendment;the effects of level magnetic field （LMF） on metal fluid flow were researched. The results show that by imposing LMF, discharge velocity from the nozzle is suppressed, jet length is decreased, back flow zone in the center of the mould is reduced;that control effectiveness is obvious when magnetic flux density is more than 0.2T;that it is necessary to set dam board of about 20mm-30mm high in the upper port of the mould in order to avoid lateral flow of liquid-level due to applying EMBR;when the casting speed is faster, the effectiveness of EMBR is better. The cast metals that have different performance on two sides can cast continuously by pouring two molten metals of different chemical composition, because electromagnetic force can suppress the mixing of molten metals in the molten pool.

This paper describes experimental investigations of flow structures and related transport processes in the continuous casting mould under the influence of an external DC magnetic field at laboratory *** results will be presented here which have been obtained using a physical model(mini-LIMMCAST)operating with the low melting point alloy *** to the concept of the electromagnetic brake the impact of a DC magnetic field on the outlet flow from the Submerged Entry Nozzle(SEN)has been studied up to Hartmann numbers of about *** Ultrasound-Doppler-Velocimetry(UDV)was applied for measurements of the flow pattern in the *** conductivity anemometers were used to measure the turbulent quantities of the *** effect of the magnetic field on the flow structure turned out to be manifold and rather *** magnetic field causes a deflection of the jet,at which the respective exit angle from the nozzle ports becomes more ***,both the penetration depth of the discharging flow into the lower part of the mould and the impinging velocity of the jet onto the side wall are reduced.A significant return flow occurs in the adjacent regions of the *** vortices are formed with axes being aligned with the magnetic field *** vortical structures are typical for quasi-two-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic(MHD)*** flow measurements do not manifest a general braking effect which would be expected as an overall damping of the flow velocity and the related fluctuations all-over the mould *** of the wall conductivity showed a striking impact on the resulting flow structures.
