A polarization-maintained coupled optoelectronic oscillator（COEO） with its performance significantly improved by a short-length unpumped erbium-doped fiber（edf） is reported and experimentally investigated.A 10 GHz optical pulse train with a supermode suppression ratio of 61.8 d B and a 10 GHz radio frequency signal with a sidemode suppression ratio of 94 d B and a phase noise of-121.9 d Bc∕Hz at 10 k Hz offset are simultaneously generated. Thanks to saturable absorption of the 1 m unpumped edf, which introduces relatively large cavity loss to the undesired modes and noise, the supermode suppression ratio and the phase noise are improved by 9.4 and 7.9 d B, respectively.

A Q-switched distributed Bragg reflector fiber laser using a graphene passive saturable absorber is proposed in a cavity consisting of a fiber Bragg grating and Faraday rotator mirror as end mirrors, together with a highly doped erbium-doped fiber as a gain source. The laser has a Q-switched threshold of about 28 mW and a tunable repetition rate of 10.4-18.0 kHz with varying pump power. The shortest pulse width obtained from the system is 3.7 its, with a maximum pulse energy and peak power of 22.2 nJ and 3.4 mW, respectively.

We propose and demonstrate a Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser （edfL） using an erbium-doped zirconia-alumina silica glass-based fiber （Zr-edf） as a saturable absorber. As a 16-cm-long Zr-edf is incorporated into a ring edfL cavity, a stable Q-switching pulse train operating at 1565？nm wavelength is successfully obtained. The repetition rate is tunable from 33.97？kHz to 71.23？kHz by increasing the pump power from the threshold of 26？mW to the maximum of 74？mW. The highest pulse energy of 26.67？nJ is obtained at the maximum pump power.

A non-adiabatic microfiber coupler is fabricated by flame brushing technique and then theoretically and experimentally analyzed.The effective length of the microfiber coupler is determined by simulation,and a low-noise laser is demonstrated using various lengths of erbium-doped fiber（edf） when incorporated in a laser setup.At 18.6-mW input pump power,the maximum output power of 20 μW and the lowest lasing threshold of 3.8 mW are obtained with a 90-cm-long edf.

We describe and compare the performances of two crucial configurations for a tunable dual-wavelength fiber laser, namely, the linear and ring configurations. The performances of these two cavities and the tunability in the dual-wavelength output varied from 0.8 to 11.9 nm are characterized. The ring cavity provides a better performance, achieving an average output power of 0.5 dBm, with a power fluctuation of only 1.1 dB and a signal-to-noise ratio （SNR） of 66 dB. Moreover, the ring cavity has minimal or no background amplified spontaneous emission （ASE）.

We experimentally demonstrate the application of MoSe2 thin film as a nonlinear medium and stabilizer to generate a multi-wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser. The cooperation of a photonic crystal fiber and a polari- zation-dependent isolator induces unstable multi-wavelength oscillations based on the nonlinear polarization rotation effect. A MoSe2 thin film is further incorporated into the cavity to achieve a stable multi-wavelength. The laser generates 7 lasings with a constant spacing of 0.47 nm at a pump power of 250 roW. The nmlti- wavelength erbium-doped fiber laser is stable with power fluctuations of less than 5 dB over 30 min.

A mode-locked erbium doped fiber laser（edfL） is demonstrated using the vanadium oxide（V2O5） material as a saturable absorber（SA）. The V2O5 based SA is hosted into poly ethylene oxide film and attached on fiber ferule in the laser cavity. It shows 7% modulation depth with 71 MW/cm2 saturation intensity. By incorporating the SA inside the edfL cavity with managed intra-cavity dispersion, ultrashort soliton pulses are successfully generated with a full width at half maximum of 3.14 ps. The laser operated at central wavelength of 1559.25 nm and repetition frequency of 1 MHz.

A fluorescence polarization immunoassay （FPIA） was developed for the analysis ofaflatoxins （AFs） using an anti-aflatoxin B1 （AFB1） monoclonal antibody and a novel fluorescein-labeled AFB1 tracer. The FPIA showed an IC50 value of 23.33 ng/mL with a limit of detection of 13.12 ng/mL for AFB1. The cross-reactivities of AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2, AFM1, and AFM2 with the antibody were 100%, 65.7%, 143%, 23.5%, 111.4%, and 2%, respectively. The group-specificity of anti-AFB1mAb indicated that the FPIA could potentially be used in a screening method for the detection of total AFs, albeit not AFG2 and AFM2. The total time required for analyzing 96 samples in one microplate was less than 5 rain. This study demonstrates the potential usefulness of the FPIA as a rapid and simple technique for monitoring AFs.

We demonstrate a passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser （edfL） using a copper nanoparticle （CuNP） thin film as the saturable absorber in a ring cavity. A stable Q-switched pulse operation is observed as the CuNP saturable absorber （SA） is introduced in the cavity. The pulse repetition rate of the edfL is observed to be proportional to the pump power, and is limited to 101.2kHz by the maximum pump power of 113.7mW. On the other hand, the pulse width reduces from 10.19μs to 4.28μs as the pump power is varied from 26.1 mW to 113.7mW. The findings suggest that CuNP SA could be useful as a potential saturable absorber for the development of the robust, compact, efficient and low cost Q-switched fiber laser operating at 1.5-μm region.
