Respirable dust and Respirable Crystalline Silica Concentration in Workers of Copper Mine, Mongolia

Introduction: Prosperity in the mining industry in Mongolia has led to an increase in the number of mining workers, resulting in an increase in occupational exposures and the prevalence of occupational diseases and disabilities. The aim of this study was to assess the personal exposure of workers to respirable dust (RD) and respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Erdenet Copper Ore Mining and included 581 personal samples of RD and 324 samples of RCS, collected in 2018-2020. Results: The study results revealed that the geometric mean (GM) of RD was 0.35 mg/m3 (95% CI 0.32 - 0.39). The RD concentration in 5.9% (n = 34) of all the samples exceeded the permissible exposure level (PEL) (3 mg/mg3). The GM of RCS was 0.012 mg/m3 (95% CI 0.010 - 0.016). In total, 12.0% (n = 39) of all RCS sample concentrations exceeded the PEL (0.1 mg/m3). Conclusion: Steel smelters, blasters, welders, and maintenance laborers were exposed to RD, while crushers, operators, drilling machinists, and maintenance laborers were exposed to RCS. Therefore, regular monitoring of the work environment, risk-based health examinations for dust-exposed workers, efficient support for dust mitigation, reduction measures at the source, and engineering controls are needed.

Objective To investigate the mortality from some main causes of death among ceramic workers Jingdezhen and to explore the relationship between dust exposure and some *** A cohort study was use for this study All subjects employed during 1972 to 1974 and worked at least one year at three ceramic factories in Jingdezhen were selected to construct the *** mortality ratio (SMR) was calculated for the main causes of death using Chinese national mortality rates for *** All 4957 workers were followed to the end of 2003 with an accumulation of 130783.6 person-years,revealed 1636 *** mortality was and cumulative mortality was 33.1%.The results show that tumor;cardio-vascular diseases, respiratory diseases,infectious diseases were main illnesses that threaten workers’ life *** standardized mortality ratio for all subjects was 1.01 that is nearly the same as that expected based on the China national mortality *** significant excesses were observed for respiratory disease,pneumoconiosis,infectious disease and pulmonary tuberculosis,SMR were 1.30,36.35,5.08 and *** mortality was observed among 2974 dust-exposed workers in the *** pneumoconiosis,the mortality from lung cancer、 non-malignant respiratory diseases,and pulmonary tuberculosis in dust-exposure workers were significantly increased in compared with that in non exposure workers,RR were 1.9 (1.2-3.1),2.4 (1.8-3.2),1.6(1.2-2.1).The exposure-response relationships between cumulative dust exposure level and mortality from all cause,all cancers,colorectal cancer,lung cancer;respiratory diseases,and pulmonary tuberculosis were observed. Conclusions The findings indicated cerantic dust exposure threaten workers’ health and life spin in pottery *** control dust level and prevent pulmonary tuberculosis is key work of public health.
