Topical Application of Tenshino-Softgel<sup>TM</sup>Reduces Epidermal Nerve Fiber Density in a Chronic dry Skin Model Mouse

Background: dry skin induces antihistamine-resistant itch, as well as epidermal hyperinnervation, which is partly responsible for peripheral itch sensitization. In acute dry skin, topical application of emollients prevents the penetration of nerve fibers into the epidermis. However, the effects of emollients on itch and epidermal hyperinnervation in individuals with chronic dry skin are poorly understood. Objective: This study examined the effects of Tenshino-softgelTM (TSG) on itch-related behavior, epidermal hyperinnervation and skin barrier function in a chronic dry skin model mouse. Methods: Chronic dry skin was induced by application of acetone/ether (1:1) mixture and water (AEW) to the rostral parts of the back of hairless mice twice daily for six consecutive days. As treatment, TSG or, as control, Vaseline (V) was applied to the same areas twice daily. Skin barrier function was evaluated by measuring transepidermal water loss (TEWL) before each treatment. Scratching behavior was recorded and analyzed using a SCLABA®-real system, and skin samples were collected for immunohistochemical assays. Results: TEWL tended to be lower and scratching bouts fewer in AEW + TSG- than in AEW-treated mice. The numbers of protein gene product 9.5-immunoreactive fibers and substance P-immunoreactive fibers were each significantly lower in the epidermis of AEW + TSG- than of AEW-treated mice, but the expression of nerve growth factor in epidermis was similar in the three groups. Semaphorin 3A expression was significantly higher in the epidermis of AEW + TSG- than of AEW- and AEW + V-treated mice. Conclusion: Topical application of TSG may attenuate itch induced by chronic dry skin through a mechanism involving the inhibition of epidermal hyperinnervation.

Influence of Material Condition on the dry Sliding Wear Behavior of Spring Steels

During the past two decades, considerable efforts have been made in the development of high performance spring steels to meet the needs for weight and savings in the automotive industry. During the service the suspension system will be subjected to different environmental conditions, at the same time it has to sustain a variety of loads acting on it. Among all the wear of spring steel plays a vital role. In this experimental analysis an attempt has been made to investigate the performance of spring steel (EN-47 / SUP 10) under the dry sliding condition. The specimen preparation and the experimentations have been carried out according to the ASTM G99 standards. The effects of tempering and cryogenic treatments on the performance of the spring steel have also been determined. The results have revealed that the material condition has got a significant influence on the performance of the spring steel. In order to analyze the percentage contribution of different wear parameter and the material condition, the DOE and ANOVA have been made. The results have shown that the load (49.205%) has shown the highest influence and the material condition has shown 22.56% of contribution on wear behavior.

Atmospheric dry Deposition in the Proximity of Oil-Fired Power Plants at Mexican Pacific Coast

dry deposition samples were collected in a weekly basis during 2010 in a site located at the Mexican Pacific Coast: Manzanillo, Colima. Samples were collected with an automatic wet/dry deposition sampler using nylon filters as surrogate surfaces. Samples were extracted with deionized water and analyzed for pH, conductivity, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NH4-, NO3-, SO42- and Cl-. Nitrate and sulfate were the most abundant ions, contributing with 53% to the total ionic mass;and their levels exceeded the hemispheric background concentrations proposed for marine remote sites. The influence of the power plants burning combustoleo located upwind the sampling site was completely evident. From meteorological analysis, it could be observed that the sampling site was all time under the influence of power plants as a result of the effect of breezes. However, in spite of the high levels of NO3- and SO42- found in the samples collected, pH value average was almost neutral, with 28% of samples slightly acid. Potassium was the most abundant cation and from the quantification of the neutralization effect of the main alkaline components, the prevalence role of K+ was completely evident, suggesting the influence of the mining complex Pe?a Colorada located upwind the sampling site, where amyl xanthate potassium is used as collector in tailing dams. dry deposition fluxes were estimated for all ions measured. Nitrogen dry deposition at Manzanillo is already in the upper extreme of the threshold value reported for sensible ecosystems. On the other hand, sulfur deposition exceeded slightly the critical load value reported for some ecosystems in Europe. Even at this moment, nitrogen and sulfur deposition is not a problem, it is necessary to take steps to avoid that total deposition of these elements exceeds critical loads, considering that results reported in this study not include the wet deposition fluxes.

Microencapsulation of Ascorbic Acid with Tripalmitin by Using dry Coating Method

It was tried to microencapsulate the ascorbic acid powder as a redox initiator with tripalmitin by use of the dry coating method. In the experiment, the feed ratio of the amount of tripalmitin to that of ascorbic acid, the coating time and the concentration of ethyl alcohol of pulverizing solvent were changed stepwise. The characteristics of microcapsules such as the content of core material, the yield, the water proof degree, the microencapsulation efficiency and the mean diameter were estimated. The yield, the microencapsulation efficiency and the water proof degree gradually increased with the feed ratio, the coating time and the concentration of pulverizing solvent. The microcapsules showed the thermal responsibility and induced polymerization of methyl methacrylate monomer.

dry reusing and wet reclaiming of used sodium silicate sand

Based on the characteristics of used sodium silicate sand and the different use requirements for recycled sand, "dry reusing and wet reclaiming of used sodium silicate sand" is considered as the most suitable technique for the used sand. When the recycled sand is used as support sand, the used sand is only reused by dry process including breaking, screening, dust-removal, etc., and it is not necessary that the used sand is reclaimed with strongly rubbing and scraping method, but when the recycled sand is used as facing sand (or single sand), the used sand must be reclaimed by wet method for higher removal rate of the residual binders. The characteristics and the properties of the dry reused sand are compared with the wet reclaimed sand after combining the different use requirements of support sand and facing sand (or single sand), and above the most adaptive scheme has also been validated.

Effects of dry and mist saunas on circulatory and thermoregulatory functions in humans

To test the hypothesis that mist sauna is a safer way of bathing than dry sauna, we compared changes in circulatory and thermoregulatory functions during 10 min sauna bathing in mist sauna at 40℃ with relative humidity of 100%, and in dry sauna by infrared ray at 70℃ with relative humidity of 15%. Subjects were seven healthy young men aged 29 ± 6 yrs (mean ± SD). We measured blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperatures at chest, forearm, thigh, and leg, tympanic temperature (Tty) by thermistors, skin blood flow at forearm by laser Doppler flowmetry, and sweat rate by ventilated capsule method at 1 min intervals throughout the experiment. Total sweating and change of hematocrit were also measured for dehydration analysis. Blood pressure was elevated more and changes in heart rate and total sweating were larger in dry sauna than mist. A significant hematocrit increase was observed in dry sauna bathing only. Mean skin temperature and Tty in dry sauna were elevated higher than those in mist. Heat stress of the dry sauna may be stronger than that of the mist, leading to dehydration and hypovolemia by sweating. Percent plasma volume loss was significantly larger in the dry than mist sauna. Changes in skin blood flow and sweat rate/Tty during mist sauna were significantly larger than those during dry sauna bathing despite heat stress of the mist sauna. The mist sauna bathing may thus be safer physiologically, and provide more effective vascular dilatation and sweating than the dry sauna bathing.

Detection of <i>Enterobacter sakazakii</i>from Commercial Children dry Milk

This study included isolation and identification of E. sakazakii from 51 different samples of powdered infant formula milk involved (Dialak 1 & 2, Celia 1 & 2, Primalac, Biomil 1 & 2, Similac, Nictalia 1 & 2, MAMi, Novolac (AD), Novolac (AR), Novolac (Allernova), S-26 AR, Nursoy, S-26 PDF gold. The results showed that one batch from three of the batches identified of Novolac and Dialak were contaminated and all the types of other infants were non-contaminated. The strains code given as (E1, E2, E3, E4);the bacteria showed resistance to antibiotics used was cephalosporin batch;the third generation showed sensitive to antibiotics life results through inhibition processes such as (Cefotaxime, Sifutetan and Siftadizim), where the diameters of inhibition zone for Siftadizim (18 mm), Sifutetan (22 mm) & Cefotaxime (25 mm) confirmed the bacteria by API and Vitek Compact- 2 (biomero).

Assessment of dry Port Efficiency in Africa Using Data Envelopment Analysis

This work involves the evaluation of dry port competitiveness through analysis of efficiencies for selected dry ports in Africa. Five dry ports were selected and analysis carried out over a period of four years. The dry ports considered were Mojo and Kality in Ethiopia, Mombasa in Kenya, Isaka in Tanzania and Casablanca in Casablanca, Morocco. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was applied for this work. Container throughputs for the various ports under consideration were used as the output variable for the data analysis model, while the number of reach stackers, the number of tractors, the number of forklifts and the size of the dry port were used as the input variables. From the results, the Mombasa dry port was found to be the most efficient with an average score of approximately 1 over the period under consideration. Casablanca was the second efficient dry port with an average score of 0.762, while Isaka was the least efficient with an average score of 0.142. This research is significant since the African countries have embraced the dry port concept, as witnessed in the huge investments in this sector, and would serve to highlight areas that need improvement for the few existing dry port facilities, most of which are undergoing expansion as well as modernization.

Effects of Direct Switching Dual Bronchodilators between dry Powder and Soft Mist Inhalers in COPD Patients

Objective: Dual bronchodilation with long-acting muscarinic antagonist and long-acting β2-agonist combinations are available worldwide in COPD patients. However, the choice of agents remains under debate. We hypothesized that switching devices between dry powder and soft mist inhalers without a wash-out period to mimic clinical practice would improve clinical symptoms and lung function. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of switching between once-daily glycopyrronium/indacaterol (GLY/IND) or umeclidinium/vilanterol (UMEC/VI), dry powder inhalers, and tiotropium/olodaterol (TIO/OLO), a soft mist inhaler, in COPD patients. Methods: This was a prospective, open-label, 8-week, observational study with follow-up. Subjects included 57 COPD patients, who attended outpatient clinics at Shizuoka General Hospital for routine check-ups between February and December 2015, receiving GLY/IND (50/110 μg) or UMEC/VI (62.5/25 μg). After an 8-week run-in period, medications were switched to TIO/OLO (5/5 μg). Study outcomes included patient’s global rating (PGR), modified MRC (mMRC), COPD assessment test (CAT), and spirometric and forced oscillatory parameters after 8 weeks. PGR used in this study was a 7-point scale ranging from 1 to 7, with 4 in the middle. Patients who consented to switch from TIO/OLO to GLY/IND or UMEC/VI were followed-up thereafter. Results: In total, 53 patients completed the study (mean age, 75 years;48 males and 5 females;GOLD 1/2/3/4 = 19/27/6/1;mMRC 0/1/2/3/4 = 14/22/12/4/1;UMEC/VI 26, GLY/IND 27). PGR, mMRC, and CAT improved in 20 (38%), 9 (17%), and 15 patients (28%), respectively. Respiratory system resistance at 5 Hz (R5), 20 Hz (R20), and the difference between R5 and R20 (R5 - R20) significantly improved. In a follow-up of 16 patients after switching from TIO/OLO to UMEC/VI (9) or GLY/IND (7), PGR, mMRC, and CAT improved in 5 (31%), 3 (12%), and 4 patients (25%), respectively, and R20 significantly improved (p = 0.011). Post-surgical evaluation of dry socket formation after surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molar—A prospective study

Aims & Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the incidence, risk factors (age, sex, infection, radiographic difficulty of the extraction, tobacco use) contributing to the development of dry socket and clinical features following surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molar. Materials and Methods: The study included 63 patients during period of September 2009 to September 2011 in the age group of 18 to 53 years with impacted mandibular third molars all of which were surgically removed under local anesthesia by the same operator. Following surgery all patients received a single dose of 4 mg corticosteroid intravenously and similar prescriptions for analgesics, antibiotics and postoperative instructions. All patients were reviewed at 3rd and 7th day postoperatively. Results: In this study incidence of dry socket was 6.3%. We also noticed onset of symptom mostly appeared within 48 hours. Postoperatively pain, bare bone and halitosis were the most significant clinical feature at 3rd postoperative day and pain, empty socket and bare bone were most significant clinical feature at 7th postoperative day. Variables like right 3rd molar impaction, patients mean age between 19 - 32 years, female, preoperative infection, radiographically difficult impaction and habitual tobacco users showed a higher incidence of dry socket formation. Conclusion: Incidence of dry socket formation is multifactorial and therefore, there is need to evaluate all factors, with special attentions in handling these patients to reduce the incidence of dry socket formation.
