Risk Perception and Knowledge in Fire Risk Reduction in a dong Minority Rural Village in China: A Health-EDRM Education Intervention Study

Fire is one of the major disasters in rural communities but evidence of the effectiveness of education interventions against fire risks is limited. This was a 2-year study assessed the effectiveness of face-to-face Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management(HealthEDRM) education interventions for raising fire risk reduction knowledge in a fire-prone rural ethnic minority community. The study was conducted in various pre-set time points of an intervention-based project in a dongbased community in Nanjiang Village, Guizhou Province in 2015 and 2016 to increase knowledge among the villagers about how to reduce general-and electrical-fire risks. Pre-and post-intervention questionnaires were used to evaluate the effectiveness of increasing fire risk-related knowledge through these interventions, immediately after the 2015 and 2016 interventions, and 17 months after the 2015 intervention. The knowledge of using fire blanket,recalling the correct emergency telephone number,unplugging unused electrical appliances, and not using water to extinguish electrical fires had immediately improved after the interventions. Subjects demonstrated a better understanding that fire blankets can fight a blaze if used appropriately, and that knowledge was sustained for 17 months. The interventions were effective in improving fire prevention and response knowledge. Targeted interventions should be organized according to communities' culture, the evolution of economic prosperity and lifestyle practices.

Evaluating the efficiency of the dong model in determining fire vulnerability in Iran’s Zagros forests

Recent fires in Iran’s Zagros forests have inflicted heavy,extensive losses to the environment,forests,villages,and forest inhabitants,resulting in a huge financial loss to the *** the increasing risk of fire and the resulting losses,it has become ever more necessary to design and develop efficient fire control and prediction *** present study utilizes the dong model to develop a map of areas vulnerable to fire in the Zarivar lake forests as a representative sample of Zagros *** model uses as its inputs some of the most significant factors(such as vegetation,physiographic features,and the human component)that affect the fire occurrence and *** assigned weights to each factor based on the model,all maps were overlapped in the ArcMap and then the region was divided into five *** results showed that 74%of the region was located in three classes:highly vulnerable,vulnerable,and medially *** validate the proposed zoning map it was compared with a map based on real data obtained from previous *** results showed that 81%of fire incidents were located in highly vulnerable,vulnerable and medially vulnerable ***,the findings indicated a medium to a high degree of fire vulnerability in Zarivar Lake forests.

Metallic phases of dong Ujimqin mesosiderite:A field emission scanning electron microscope study

The microstructure of Fe-Ni metallic phases in dong Ujimqin mesosiderite was studied using the field emission SEM. Taenite is characterized by a zoned structure, consisting of outer clear taenite and inner cloudy zone (CZ). CZ has a typical 'island-honeycomb' microstructure. The average size of the island phase is about 358 nm, suggesting a cooling rate of～0.5℃/Ma at low temperature (dong Ujimqin mesosiderite was discussed based on the new low-temperature Fe-Ni phase diagram.

Surveillance of dengue and chikungunya infection in dong Thap,Vietnam:A 13-month study

Environmental factors control and climate change impact on forest type: dong PraYa Yen-KhaoYai world heritage in Thailand

Climate is a major determinant of global vegetation patterns and has a significant influence on the distribution and structure of forest ecosystems. dong PraYa Yen-KhaoYai Forest Complex has been a UNESCO natural world heritage site since 2007, but little is known about its plant community. Our study aims to identify each plant community within the world heritage area and calculate its potential for carbon content. We determine both the relationship between forest type and both physio-chemical soil properties and climate change impact. We employed allometric equations to calculate aboveground biomass and both cluster analysis and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) to examine the relationship between forest type and physiochemical soil properties. An equation for each physical parameter was used to predict the forest model. The climate scenario under A2 and B2 was applied to calculate future predominant forest types. Our results reveal that the forest ecosystems at Tab Lan (TL) have the highest species count (332 species) followed by Pang Srida (PD), KhaoYai (KY), dong Yai (DY), and Tapraya (TY), with 293, 271, 169, and 99 species, respectively. We found KY to have the highest recorded carbon storage value at 2507.6 tC/ha followed by TL, PD, TY, and DY (1613.8, 1269.1, 844 and 810.7 tC/ha, respectively). Cluster analysis results indicated that the dominant species in each forest type is different. Moreover, CCA revealed that soil organic matter (SOM) and soil acid-base indicators are the best parameters to establish correlation for each forest type. Based on our results, future climate predictions show a negative impact on evergreen forests, but a positive one on deciduous ones.

Based on basic theories of community participation in tourism development,questionnaires were designed for the field investigation in one of the largest dong Villages in China,the dong village in *** participation in tourism development of the dong Village was analyzed from the perspectives of residents' participation in decision-making and management,reception and catering services,group performance,making and selling ethnic artworks,protection of village tourist resources and *** meanwhile,problems were pointed out as "still maintaining in the early stage of its tourism development,fewer opportunities for its residents participating in tourism development,resource protection being divorced from tourism benefits and so on",on the basis of which corresponding solutions were offered as "expanding the field of participation,improving the level of participation,increasing benefits of local residents;insisting on the principle of "not participating intentionally is the best way of their participation,guaranteeing economic compensation for rural residents;enhancing infrastructure construction;establishing a museum of folk-custom materials;creating a favorable atmosphere of folk cultures;enhancing cooperation with its neighboring villages in tourism development,and creating a "local industrial chain";establishing a research center of cultural tourism development of the dong Minority.
