Coordinated voltage regulation strategy of OLTC and BESS considering switching delay

When large-scale distributed renewable energy power generation systems are connected to the power grid,the risk of grid voltage fluctuations and exceeding the limit increases ***,the on-load tap changer(OLTC)can adjust the transformer winding tap to maintain the secondary side voltage within the normal ***,the inevitable delay in switching transformer taps makes it difficult to respond quickly to voltage ***,switching the transformer taps frequently will decrease the service life of *** order to solve this critical issue,a cooperative voltage regulation strategy applied between the battery energy storage systems(BESSs)and *** proposed By adjusting the charge and discharge power of BESSs,the OLTC can frequently switch the transformer taps to achieve rapid voltage *** effectiveness of the proposed coordinated regulation strategy is verified in the IEEE 33 node distribution *** simulation results show that the proposed coordinated regulation strategy can stabilize the voltage of the distribution network within a normal range and reduce the frequency of tap switching,as such elongating the service life of the equipment.

The Initial Guess Estimation Newton Method for power Flow in Distribution Systems

With the increasing integration of distributed generations U+0028 DGs U+0029, there is a demand for DGs to play a more important role on the voltage regulation. Meanwhile, the high penetration of DGs could raise a technical problem that the distribution system may operate with bi-directional power flow, leading to the inadequacy of the traditional power flow. Considering this new scenario in distribution system power flow, the convergence theorem is proposed, which contributes to develop a novel selection method of the initial guess closed to the convergent solution. Moreover, to ensure the fast rate of power flow convergence, the theorem of the maximum iterations estimation is also proposed. Based on the two proposed theorems, an Initial Guess Estimation Newton method is proposed, considering different operational status of DGs and initial guess sensitivity simultaneously. Based on the standard node systems, Tongliao grid, and 69 system of USA, three simulation examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2017 Chinese Association of Automation.

A Multiple-Port Three-Level DC/DC Converter for HESS with power Sharing in DC Microgrids

In order to reduce the volume, weight and cost of conventional hybrid energy storage system(HESS) while properly exploring the complementary features of different energy storage devices for DC microgrid applications, this paper proposes a multipleport three-level DC/DC converter. It possesses multiple ports sharing one front-end three-level DC/DC converter with an inductor and supercapacitor bank. Different types of batteries and/or multiple battery banks can be interfaced through the multiple terminals. Such a converter structure facilitates the cooperation of different energy storage devices to satisfy various power demands of DC microgrids with intermittent renewable generation plants. Moreover, the proposed structure allows power sharing among different energy storage devices, which enables more efficient cooperation of different battery banks or different types of batteries. Experimental results are presented to verify the efficacy of the proposed converter structure and its control.

The European Union Framework Programme 71 Enerfish project aims to demonstrate a new poly-generation application with renewable energy sources for the fishery industry in Vietnam. The fish processing plant under consideration can be made by energy self-sufficient when all fish waste oil is processed into biodiesel and further converted to electricity and heat （for cooling） in a CHP （combined heat and power） unit. The purpose of the present paper is to discuss the profitability of such plants in southeast Asia. The economic model shows that electricity production is, due to the low electricity tariff, uneconomical （except during electricity blackout）, even if cogeneration heat can be utilized. This prompt a design of the plant whereby the necessary heat for the biodiesel process is taken from the waste heat produced by the compressors of a CO2 cooling system. According to the calculations and assumptions of the present study, the profitability of biodiesel production from fish cleaning wastes in Vietnam depends strongly on the market prices for fish waste and fish oil. Different business case scenarios are described.

Optimal Placement and Sizing of distributed Energy generation in an Electrical Network Using the Hybrid Algorithm of Bee Colonies and Newton Raphson

distributed generation (DG) is gaining in importance due to the growing demand for electrical energy and the key role it plays in reducing actual energy losses, lowering operating costs and improving voltage stability. In this paper, we propose to inject distributed power generation into a distribution system while minimizing active energy losses. This injection should be done at a grid node (which is a point where energy can be injected into or recovered from the grid) that will be considered the optimal node when total active losses in the radial distribution system are minimal. The focus is on meeting energy demand using renewable energy sources. The main criterion is the minimization of active energy losses during injection. The method used is the algorithm of bee colony (ABC) associated with Newtonian energy flow transfer equations. The method has been implemented in MATLAB for optimal node search in IEEE 14, 33 and 57 nodes networks. The active energy loss results of this hybrid algorithm were compared with the results of previous searches. This comparison shows that the proposed algorithm allows to have reduced losses with the power injected that we have found.
