A novel neural network model, termed the discrete-time delayed standard neural network model （DDSNNM）, and similar to the nominal model in linear robust control theory, is suggested to facilitate the stability analysis of discrete-time recurrent neural networks （RNNs） and to ease the synthesis of controllers for discrete-time nonlinear systems. The model is composed of a discrete-time linear dynamic system and a bounded static delayed （or non-delayed） nonlinear operator. By combining various Lyapunov functionals with the S-procedure, sufficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability and global exponential stability of the DDSNNM are derived, which are formulated as linear or nonlinear matrix inequalities. Most discrete-time delayed or non-delayed RNNs, or discrete-time neural-network-based nonlinear control systems can be transformed into the DDSNNMs for stability analysis and controller synthesis in a unified way. Two application examples are given where the DDSNNMs are employed to analyze the stability of the discrete-time cellular neural networks （CNNs） and to synthesize the neuro-controllers for the discrete-time nonlinear systems, respectively. Through these examples, it is demonstrated that the DDSNNM not only makes the stability analysis of the RNNs much easier, but also provides a new approach to the synthesis of the controllers for the nonlinear systems.

This paper analyzes a finite-buffer renewal input single server discrete-time queueing system with multiple working vacations. The server works at a different rate rather than completely stopping working during the multiple working vacations. The service times during a service period, service time during a vacation period and vacation times are geometrically distributed. The queue is analyzed using the supplementary variable and the imbedded Markov-chain techniques. We obtain steady-state system length distributions at pre-arrival, arbitrary and outside observer＇s observation epochs. The analysis of actual waiting-time distribution and some performance measures are carried out. We present some numerical results and discuss special cases of the model.

This paper investigates the observer-based control problem of a class of stochastic mechanical systems. The system is modelled as a continuous-time It o stochastic differential equation with a discrete-time output. Euler-Maruyama approximation is used to design the discrete-time approximate observer, and an observer-based feedback controller is derived such that the closed-loop nonlinear system is exponentially stable in the mean-square sense. Also, the authors analyze the convergence of observer error when the discrete-time approximate observer servers as a state observer for the exact system. Finally, a simulation example is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The effects of measurement noise are investigated in the context of bipartite consensus of multi-agent systems. In the system setting, discrete-time double-integrator dynamics are assumed for the agent, and measurement noise is present for the agent receiving the state information from its neighbors. time-varying stochastic bipartite consensus protocols are designed in order to lessen the harmful effects of the noise. Consequently, the state transition matrix of the closed-loop system is analyzed, and sufficient and necessary conditions for the proposed protocol to be a mean square bipartite consensus protocol are given with the help of linear transformation and algebraic graph theory. It is proven that the signed digraph to be structurally balanced and having a spanning tree are the weakest communication assumptions for ensuring bipartite consensus. In particular, the proposed protocol is a mean square bipartite average consensus one if the signed digraph is also weight balanced.

This paper analyzes a discrete-time multiple vacations finite-buffer queueing system with batch renewal input in which inter-arrival time of batches are arbitrarily distributed. Service and vacation times are mutually independent and geometrically distributed. The server takes vacations when the system does not have any waiting jobs at a service completion epoch or a vacation completion epoch. The system is analyzed under the assumptions of late arrival system with delayed access and early arrival system. Using the supplementary variable and the imbedded Markov chain techniques, the authors obtain the queue-length distributions at pre-arrival, arbitrary and outside observer＇s ob- servation epochs for partial-batch rejection policy. The blocking probability of the first, an arbitrary- and the last-job in a batch have been discussed. The analysis of actual waiting-time distributions measured in slots of the first, an arbitrary- and the last-job in an accepted batch, and other performance measures along with some numerical results have also been investigated.

To diagnose the fault of attitude sensors in satellites, this paper proposes a novel approach based on the Kalman filter of the discrete-time descriptor system. By regarding the sensor fault term as the auxiliary state vector, the attitude measurement system subjected to the attitude sensor fault is modeled by the discrete-time descriptor system. The condition of estimability of such systems is given. And then a Kalman filter of the discrete-time descriptor system is established based on the methodology of the maximum likelihood estimation. With the descriptor Kalman filter, the state vector of the original system and sensor fault can be estimated simultaneously. The proposed method is able to esti-mate an abrupt sensor fault as well as the incipient one. Moreover, it is also effective in the multiple faults scenario. Simulations are conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The robust exponential stability of a larger class of discrete-time recurrent neural networks (RNNs) is explored in this paper. A novel neural network model, named standard neural network model (SNNM), is introduced to provide a general framework for stability analysis of RNNs. Most of the existing RNNs can be transformed into SNNMs to be analyzed in a unified way. Applying Lyapunov stability theory method and S-Procedure technique, two useful criteria of robust exponential stability for the discrete-time SNNMs are derived. The conditions presented are formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to be easily solved using existing efficient convex optimization techniques. An example is presented to demonstrate the transformation procedure and the effectiveness of the results.
