Determination of the Deep Optical Properties of Healthy and Diseased Skin Using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy

In this study, we focused on diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, a rapid and noninvasive spectroscopy technique that has considerable potential for medical diagnosis. In order to better understand and analyze the signals induced by this method, we performed a series of in vivo measurements on healthy and diseased skin. Measurement sites on a human hand and feet were chosen. Some preliminary results obtained on these sites show the feasibility of this technique in clinics.

This review report represents an overview of research and development on medical hyperspectral imaging technology and its *** imaging technology is attracting attention as a new imaging modality for medical applications,especially in disease diagnosis and image-guided *** the recent advances in imaging,this technology provides an opportunity for twodimensional mapping of oxygen saturation(SatO2)of blood with high accuracy,spatial spectral imaging,and its analysis and provides detection and diagnostic information about the tissue physiology and *** imaging also provides information about tissue oxygenation,perfusion,and potential function during *** algorithm has been examined,and indication of accurate map of relative hemoglobin concentration and SatO2 can be indicated with preferable resolution and frame *** technology is expected to provide promising biomedical information in practical *** studies suggested that blood flow and SatO2 are associated with gastrointestinal disorders,particularly malignant tumor *** use and analysis of spectroscopic images are expected to potentially play a role in the detection and diagnosis of these diseases.

Macrovesicular Steatosis(MS)is an independent risk factor for adverse post-liver transplant(LT)*** degree of MS is intimately related to the viability of the liver graft,which in turn is crucial to the success of the *** ideal liver graft should have no MS and most centres would find it unacceptable to use a donor liver with severe MS for *** a formal liver biopsy is the goldstandard diagnostic test for MS,given the logistical and time constraints it is not universally *** tests like a frozen section biopsy are plagued by issues of fallibility with reporting and sampling bias making them inferior to a liver ***,the development of an accurate,non-invasive,easy-to-use,handheld,real-time device for quantification of MS would fill this lacuna in the deceased donor selection *** present the hypothesis,design and proof-ofconcept of a study,which aims to standardise and determine the feasibility and accuracy of a novel handheld device applying the principle of diffuse reflectance spectroscopy for real-time quantification of MS.

Development of a national VNIR soil-spectral library for soil classification and prediction of organic matter concentrations

Soil visible-near infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy(vis-NIR DRS)has become an important area of research in the fields of remote and proximal soil *** technique is considered to be particularly useful for acquiring data for soil digital mapping,precision agriculture and soil *** this study,1581 soil samples were collected from 14 provinces in China,including Tibet,Xinjiang,Heilongjiang,and *** samples represent 16 soil groups of the Genetic Soil Classification of *** air-drying and sieving,the diffuse reflectance spectra of the samples were measured under laboratory conditions in the range between 350 and 2500 nm using a portable vis-NIR *** the soil spectra were smoothed using the Savitzky-Golay method with first derivatives before performing multivariate data *** spectra were compressed using principal components analysis and the fuzzy k-means method was used to calculate the optimal soil spectral *** scores of the principal component analyses were classified into five clusters that describe the mineral and organic composition of the *** results on the classification of the spectra are comparable to the results of other similar *** predictions of soil organic matter concentrations used a combination of the soil spectral classification with multivariate calibration using partial least squares regression(PLSR).This combination significantly improved the predictions of soil organic matter(R2=0.899;RPD=3.158)compared with using PLSR alone(R2=0.697;RPD=1.817).

Hematite exists ubiquitously in soils and sediments,and is commonly aluminium (*** study investigated systematically the effects of Al substitution on the visible diffuse reflectance spectrum(DRS) of hematite by using several sets of synthetic *** found that the position and amplitude of the characteristic absorption band of hematite(estimated from the first- and second-order derivative curves of the Kubelka-Munk remission function spectrum derived from the DRS) was significantly affected by the degree of Al substitution as well as by sample grain ***,there are ambiguities in quantifying the degi’ee of Al substitution and the mass concentration of hematite using ***,if hematite forms under similar environmental conditions,it is possible to establish a transfer function between the DRS parameters and hematite concentration as discussed here for a Chinese loess-palaeosol sequence.

To accurately decode the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental significance of magnetic properties in Chinese loess/paleosols,neoformation of magnetic iron oxides via pedogenesis as well as the relationship between ferrimagnetic(maghemite and magnetite)and antiferromagnetic minerals(hematite and goethite)of both detrital and pedogenic origins should be well *** resolve this problem, magnetic iron oxides from a contiguous loess-paleosol sequence(lower part of the loess unit L1,paleosol unit S1,and the upper part of L2)at Luochuan,Center of the Chinese Loess Plateau,were well characterized and quantified by using an integrated approach including chemical dissolution,diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and rock magnetism *** showed that these magnetic minerals have distinct coercivity and dissolution behavior,which is highly grain *** specifically, the paleosol is enriched with nano-sized pedogenic hematites with a medium coercivity of～130 mT, which are also preferentially dissolved in a weak reductive *** contrast,the coarse-grained micro-sized detrital hematites with a medium coercivity of～1T are dominant in loess,In addition,these coarse-grained detrital hematites are more stoichiometric than their pedogenic counterparts as evidenced by the higher band position on the diffuse reflectance *** can be well distinguished from hematite by its higher coercivity(4-7T)at low temperature(10K).The consistent dissolution behavior of goethite for both loess and paleosol samples in citrate-bicarbonate-dithionite solution indicates that goethite could be less relevant to the pedogenic *** reductive dissolution of pedogenic maghemite lags the dissolution of pedogenic hematite and fine-grained goethite,which suggests that average grain size of pedogenic maghemite is relatively larger than those of pedogenic hematite and fine-grained *** magnetite is hard to dissolve and～50%of its initial remanence su
