Malnutrition is one of the common and severe problems for cancer patients, which directly increase the incidence of complications and even cause a significant deterioration in the quality of life. Nutritional Risk Screening Tool(NRS-2002) and Abridged Scored Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(abPGSGA) were widely applied in cancer patients, to identify nutritional risk, as well as the Nutrients-Targeted 24-hour recall(NT 24-hr) to guide nutrition therapy dosage. However, high rate of malnourished cancer patients remained undetected and untreated due to the limited time for clinicians to conduct face-to-face malnutrition screening and time-consuming dietary recalls. Therefore, this study was designed to validate the performance of a digital self-administered tool in evaluating the risk of malnutrition and dietary nutrients intakes in hospitalized cancer patients. Methods Consecutive patients were identified for eligibility and recruited in the Oncology Department of Sichuan People’s Hospital from Mar 2021 to Apr 2021. Demographic and medical record information were derived from hospital database and checked by two researchers respectively. By using the R+ dietitian, a WeChat-based mini program, all participants were required to complete the NRS-2002, abPG-SGA and NT 24-hr independently, within 24 hours after admission to hospital. The malnutrition screening and predicted daily energy/protein intake values were automatically output afterwards. As the reference standard to conduct nutritional risk screening and dietary information collection, face-to-face NRS2002 and abPG-SGA scales were conducted by two trained dietitians on the same day, as well as the 3-day 24-hour recalls(3 d 24-hrs), to achieve nutrition screening results and detailed dietary intake information about all foods and beverages. Daily nutrients values, including energy and protein intake, would be calculated through food composition table. All statistical analyses were performed using SAS
