Somatic disturbances that occur in parallel with psychiatric diseases are a major challenge in clinical *** factors contribute to the development of mental and somatic *** 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is a significant health burden worldwide,and the prevalence of diabetes in adults is *** comorbidity of diabetes and mental disorders is very *** sharing a bidirectional link,both T2DM and mental disorders influence each other in various manners,but the exact mechanisms underlying this link are not yet *** potential mechanisms of both mental disorders and T2DM are related to immune and inflammatory system dysfunction,oxidative stress,endothelial dysfunction,and metabolic ***,diabetes is also a risk factor for cognitive dysfunction that can range from subtle diabetesassociated cognitive decline to pre-dementia and dementia.A complex relationship between the gut and the brain also represents a new therapeutic approach since gut-brain signalling pathways regulate food intake and hepatic glucose *** aim of this minireview is to summarize and present the latest data on mutual pathogenic pathways in these disorders,emphasizing their complexity and *** also focused on the cognitive performances and changes in neurodegenerative *** importance of implementing integrated approaches in treating both of these states is highlighted,along with the need for individual therapeutic strategies.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and diabetes mellitus type 2 commonly coexist as a manifestation of metabolic *** presence of diabetes promotes the progression of simple fatty liver to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)and cirrhosis,and the presence of NAFLD increases the risk of diabetic *** coexistence affects a large part of the population,imposing a great burden on health care systems *** from diet modification and exercise,recent advances in the pharmacotherapy of diabetes offer new prospects regarding liver steatosis and steatohepatitis improvement,enriching the existing algorithm and supporting a multifaceted approach to diabetic patients with fatty liver *** agents mainly include members of the families of glucagon-like peptide-1 analogues and the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 *** addition,agents acting on more than one receptor simultaneously are presently under study,in an attempt to further enhance our available options.

The Activity of Serum 8-Iso-Prostaglandin F2α as Oxidative Stress Marker in Patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 and Associated Dyslipidemic Hyperglycemia

Background: Oxidative stress has been closely linked to the incidence of diabetic complications. Therefore, the aim of this research article was to study hyperglycemia and abnormal lipid profile in diabetic patient type 2 and its correlation with oxidative stress development as measured by 8-iso-PGF2α and 8-OHdG. Methods: Fifty (50) patients confirmed type 2 diabetes mellitus and eighty (80) non-diabetic control individuals were included in this study. All individuals were tested for blood glucose, lipid profile, 8-iso-PGF2α and 8-OHdG HdG. Results: The age of diabetic patients was observed to be ≥40 yrs in 96% and diabetes was frequently detected in female than in male patients (76% vs. 24%, p ere elevated in diabetic patients compared with control individuals (p type 2 has a higher rate of abnormal serum lipids and correlates significantly with lipid peroxidation and oxidized DNA bases as measured by 8-iso-PGF2α and 8-OHdG. Therefore, 8-iso-PGF2α and 8-OHdG could be used as oxidative biomarkers for evaluating diabetic patients with early prediction

Relationship between Modulator Recognition Factor 2/AT-rich Interaction Domain 5B Gene Variations and type 2 diabetes mellitus or Lipid Metabolism in a Northern Chinese Population

Background： Four single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） in the modulator recognition factor 2/AT-rich interaction domain 5B （MRF2/ARID5B） gene located at chromosome 10q21,2 have been shown to be associated with both type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM） and coronary artery disease in a Japanese cohort. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between these SNPs （rs2893880, rs10740055, rs7087507, rs10761600） and new-onset T2DM and lipid metabolism in a Northern Chinese population. Methods： This was a case-control study. The rs2893880, rs10740055, rs7087507, and rs10761600 genetic variants were genotyped by SNPscan and analyzed in relation to T2DM susceptibility in 2000 individuals （090 with newly diagnosed T2DM and 1001 controls without diabetes mellitus）. Associations between the MRF2/ARID5B genetic models and T2DM were determined by multivariate logistic regression. Results： Regarding the rs 10740055 SNP, AA was associated with a higher risk of T2DM compared with codominant-type CC （adjusted by sex, age, and body mass index [BMI], P = 0.041, odds ratio [OR] = 1.421, 95% confidence interval [C1 ] 1.014-1.991）. Meanwhile, AA individuals were at increased risk of presenting with T2DM compared with individuals with CC or a single C （adjusted by sex, age, and BMI, P = 0.034, OR = 1.366, 95% CI 1.023-1.824）. With respect to rsl0761600, AT contributed to a higher risk of T2DM compared with AA （adjusted by sex, age, and BMI, P = 0.013, OR = 1.585, 95% CI 1.101-2.282）, while TT also increased the risk of presenting with T2DM compared with AA or A （adjusted by sex, age, and BMI, P = 0.004, OR = 1.632, 95% CI 1.166-2.284）. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C） levels were significantly different among the three genotypes of rs7087507 in the controls （P = 0.048）（GG〉GA）. Conclusions： The present results identified MRF2/AR1D5B as a potential susceptibility gene for new-onset T2DM in a Northern Chinese population, while the rs7087507 SNP was associated with HDL-C levels

Proximal gastric motility in critically ill patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

AIM： To investigate the proximal gastric motor response to duodenal nutrients in critically ill patients with longstanding type 2 diabetes ***： Proximal gastric motility was assessed （using a barostat） in 10 critically ill patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus （59±3 years） during two 60-min duodenal infusions of Ensure （1 and 2 kcal/min）, in random order, separated by 2h fasting. Data were compared with 15 non-diabetic critically ill patients （48 ± 5 years） and 10 healthy volunteers （28 ±3 years）. RESULTS： Baseline proximal gastric volumes were similar between the three groups. In diabetic patients, proximal gastric relaxation during I kcal/min nutrient infusion was similar to non-diabetic patients and healthy controls. In contrast, relaxation during 2 kcal/ min infusion was initially reduced in diabetic patients （P 〈 0.05） but increased to a level similar to healthy humans, unlike non-diabetic patients where relaxation was impaired throughout the infusion. Duodenal nutrient stimulation reduced the fundic wave frequency in a dose-dependent fashion in both the critically ill diabetic patients and healthy subjects, but not in critically ill patients without diabetes. Fundic wave frequency in diabetic patients and healthy subjects was greater than in non-diabetic ***： In patients with diabetes mellitus, proximal gastric motility is less disturbed than nondiabetic patients during critical illness, suggesting that these patients may not be at greater risk of delayed gastric emptying.

Effects of Portulaca Oleracea on Insulin Resistance in Rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective: To study the effects of Portulaca oler acea, a Chinese medicinal herb, on insulin resistance in rats with type 2 diabet es mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Experimental model of T2DM was established by injection of streptozotocin (25mg/kg) and feeding with high calorie forage. The effects o f Portulaca oleracea on oral glucose tolerance, serum levels of insulin, triglyc eride, total cholesterol, high density lipoproteins cholesterol and free f atty acids, and insulin sensitivity index were all observed. Results: Portulaca oleracea could reduce the body weight, improve the impaired glucose tolerance and lipid metabolism, decrease serum free fatty acids, attenuate hyperinsulinemia and elevate insulin sensitivity. Conclusion: Portulaca oleracea could improve insulin resistance i n rats with T2DM, and the mechanism might be related to its actions in improving lipid metabolism and decreasing free fatty acids.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is one of the most common comorbidities associated with overweight and metabolic syndrome(Met S). Importantly, NAFLD is one of its most dangerous complications because it can lead to severe liver pathologies, including fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatic cellular carcinoma. Given the increasing worldwide prevalence of obesity, NAFLD has become the most common cause of chronic liver disease and therefore is a major global health problem. Currently, NAFLD is predominantly regarded as a hepatic manifestation of Met S. However, accumulating evidence indicates that the effects of NAFLD extend beyond the liver and are negatively associated with a range of chronic diseases, most notably cardiovascular disease(CVD), diabetes mellitus type 2(T2DM) and chronic kidney disease(CKD). It is becoming increasingly clear that these diseases are the result of the same underlying pathophysiological processes associated with Met S, such as insulin resistance, chronic systemic inflammation and dyslipidemia. As a result, they have been shown to be independent reciprocal risk factors. In addition, recent data have shown that NAFLD actively contributes to aggravation of the pathophysiology of CVD, T2 DM, and CKD, as well as several other pathologies. Thus, NAFLD is a direct cause of many chronic diseases associated with MetS, and better detection and treatment of fatty liver disease is therefore urgently needed. As non-invasive screening methods for liver disease become increasingly available, detection and treatment of NAFLD in patients with MetS should therefore be considered by both(sub-) specialists and primary care physicians.

Common psychiatric disorders(CPDs)and depression contribute significantly to the global epidemic of type 2 diabetes(T2D).We postulated a possible pathophysiological mechanism that through Bridge-Symptoms present in depression and CPDs,promotes the establishment of emotional eating,activation of the reward system,onset of overweight and obesity and,ultimately the increased risk of developing *** plausibility of the proposed pathophysiological mechanism is supported by the mechanism of action of drugs such as naltrexonebupropion currently approved for the treatment of both obesity/overweight with T2D and as separate active pharmaceutical ingredients in drug addiction,but also from initial evidence that is emerging regarding glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists that appear to be effective in the treatment of drug *** hope that our hypothesis may be useful in interpreting the higher prevalence of CPDs and depression in patients with T2D compared with the general population and may help refine the integrated psychiatric-diabetic therapy approach to improve the treatment and or remission of T2D.

Pioglitazone is an oral anti-hyperglycemic agent. It is used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2. It selectively stimulates nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma （PPAR-gamma）. It was the tenth-best-selling drug in the U.S. in 2008. This article examines published analytical methods reported so far in the literature for the determination of pioglitazone in biological samples and pharmaceutical formulations. They include various techniques like electrochemical methods, spectrophotometry, capillary electrophoresis, high-performance liquid chromatography, liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry and high-performance thin layer chromatography.
