Although glucose electrochemical sensors based on enzymes play a dominant role in market, their stability remains a problem due to the inherent nature of enzymes. Therefore, glucose sensors that are independent on enzymes have attracted more attention for the development of stable detection devices. Here we present an enzyme-free glucose sensor based on Ni(OH)(2) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The as-fabricated sensor still exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity for detecting glucose under enzyme independent conditions. The enhanced catalytic performance may due to synergistic effect as follows: (i) the interaction between the Ni2+ and pi electron of graphene induces the formation of the beta-phase Ni(OH)(2) with higher catalytic activity; (ii) the frozen dry process works as a secondary filtration, getting rid of poorly formed Ni(OH)(2) particles with low catalytic activity; (iii) the rGO network with good conductivity provides a good electronic pathway for promoting electron transfer to reduce the response time. Based on the synergistic effect, the sensor exhibits a wide linear detection range from 0.2 mu mol/L to 1.0 mu mol/L and a low detection limit (0.1 mu mol/L, S/N=3). The excellent detection performance, as well as the easy and low-cost preparation method, suggests the promising applicability of the sensor in the glucose detection market.

The new coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic posed a great burden on health care systems worldwide and is an enormous and real obstacle in providing needed health care to patients with chronic diseases such as *** to COVID-19,there have been great advances in technology used for management of type 1 diabetes,primarily insulin pumps,sensors,integrated and closed loop systems,ambulatory glucose profile software,and smart phone apps providing necessary essentials for telemedicine implementation right at the beginning of the COVID-19 *** results of these remote interventions are reassuring in terms of glycemic management and hemoglobin A1c ***,data on long-term outcomes and cost reductions are missing as well as proper technical infrastructure and government health policy support.

Glucose control in patient admitted to the intensive care unit has been a topic of much debate over the past 20 *** harmful effects of uncontrolled hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in critically ill patients is well *** a large clinical trial in 2001 demonstrated significant mortality and morbidity benefits with tight glucose control in this patient population,the results could not be replicated by other ***“Normoglycemia in Intensive Care Evaluation-Survival Using Glucose Algorithm Regulation”trial in 2009 established that tight glucose control was not only of no benefit,but in fact harmful due to the significant risk of *** current guidelines suggest a moderate approach with the initiation of intravenous insulin therapy in critically ill patients when the blood glucose level is above 180 mg/*** most important factor that underpins glycemic management in intensive care unit patients is the consequent prevention of *** glucose monitoring strategies and insulin protocols need to be implemented in order to achieve this goal.

Semaglutide’s Trail of Success in Weight Loss management and HbA1c Reduction: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Obesity is a preventable health condition, yet it remains a complex relapsing global health conundrum, triggering an array of comorbidities, including diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and mental health decline. This review intends to highlight the success of semaglutide for its therapeutic intervention for weight loss management in diabetics and non-diabetics and HbA1c reduction in type 2 diabetics. Methods: We searched and systematically reviewed the literature from within the past ten years on semaglutide utilization for weight loss and HbA1c reduction. Databases investigated included PMC, JAMA, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet, resulting in four original research articles that were systematically reviewed. Web consultations with WHO, CDC, and Healthy People 2030 were conducted to ascertain epidemiological obesity and diabetes data. AAFP and USPSTF references were included for obesity management and preventive care guidelines. Results: Based on results from systematically reviewing four original research studies, semaglutide can effectively reduce elevated weight and HbA1c, using the once-weekly subcutaneous injection formulation. A composite average percent weight loss of 8.27% (16 - 20 pounds) and an average HbA1c percent reduction rate of 1.07% (3 - 4 points) were attained. There were no major adverse events reported from any of the four original research studies related to the drug. Discussion: With evidence from several studies after its FDA approval, semaglutide delivers a promise for weight loss management and HbA1c reduction for appropriate patient populations. Clinician and patient education on its proper use should be continuously revisited.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is one of the fastest growing public health concerns around the ***-sweetened beverage(SSB)consumption has been proven to be associated with adverse health consequences in the diabetic *** SSB consumption,body weight control,healthy diets,and increased physical activity have been suggested as strategies to improve diabetes prevention and *** literature review provides an overview of:(1)The association between SSB consumption and the risk of T2DM;(2)Types of SSB consumption and T2DM;(3)The effect of obesity and inflammation on the association between SSB consum-ption and risk of T2DM;and(4)SSB consumption in T2DM *** is still work to be done to determine how SSB consumption is related to T2DM,but the current research on identifying the association between SSB consumption and T2DM is promising,with the most promising studies confirming the connection between SSBs,T2DM risk,and diabetes *** studies should explore more effective SSB related diabetes prevention and management interventions.

Children/adolescents with type 1 diabetes(T1D)require holistic approach and continuous ***,the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has made challenges for the T1D children and their caregivers,professionals,and the healthcare *** minireview aims to consolidate and discuss the difficulties and solutions of children with type 1 diabetes in the COVID-19 pandemic.T1D has been the most common type of diabetes in children and adolescents and the last decades has seen a rapid increase in the prevalence of T1D in youths worldwide,which deserves a public concern particularly in the COVID-19 *** reported in previous studies,T1D is a risk factor related to severe cases,while the virus may induce new-onset diabetes and serious ***,restriction strategies influence medical availability and lifestyle,impact glycemic control and compilation management,and thus pose stress on families and health providers of youths with T1D,especially on those with certain fragile ***,special treatment plans are required for children provided by caregivers and the local health *** health tools such as improved medical devices and telemedicine service,as well as a combined support may benefit in this *** minireview emphasises that continued medical access and support are required to prevent deteriorated condition of children and adolescents with diabetes throughout this ***,strategies are supposed to be formulated to mitigate the difficulties and stress among this group,particularly in the most at-risk *** solutions in this minireview may help individuals and the health system to overcome these problems and help youths with T1D in better diabetes management during such emergency situations.
