This paper deals with a design methodology of permanent magnets(PM)generators used for fixed-pitch tidal turbines in a marine renewable energy *** the case of underwater turbines,fixed-pitch tidal turbines could be very attractive and interesting to reduce maintenance operation by avoiding using such a complex electromechanical system for *** this technological case,one of the main control challenges is to ensure power limitation at high tidal current *** control mode can be achieved using the generator *** this context,this paper proposes an original and systemic design methodology to optimize the generator design taking into account the tidal turbine power limitation for high tidal currents velocities.

In this paper,a methodology for designing mooring system deployment for vessels at varying water depths is *** Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm-II(NSGA-II)is combined with a self-dependently developed vessel-mooring coupled program to find the optimal mooring system deployment considering both station-keeping requirements and the safety of the mooring *** case studies are presented to demonstrate the methodology by designing the mooring system deployments for a very large floating structure(VLFS)module and a semi-submersible platform respectively at three different water *** can be concluded from the obtained results that the mooring system can achieve a better station-keeping ability with relatively shorter mooring line when deployed in the shallow *** safety factor of mooring line is mainly dominated by the maximum instantaneous tension increment in the shallow water,while the pre-tension has a decisive influence on the safety factor of the mooring line in the deep water.

This article presents a study on the structural behavior of transversely prestressed laminated timber slabs,focusing on an innovative approach:vertically misaligned *** misalignment,achieved by sliding vertically the wooden lamellae rather than aligning them,enhances the slab’s cross-section moment of inertia,thereby improving load-bearing capacity and *** involved two groups of structural size specimens:one with vertically aligned lamellae(control group)and the other with misaligned lamellae(study group).Results showed the study group exhibited 42%superior stiffness and 10%less load capacity compared to the *** typically occurred individually in the lamellae,particularly in those with defects or lower modulus of elasticity,concentrated in the middle third of the slabs’free span where tensile stresses *** a higher number of failed lamellae,the study group demonstrated promising *** of prestressing bar indicated no damage at all in the thread,suggesting potential for reducing bar *** findings offer crucial insights into applying these slabs in timber construction as well as to any kind of construction.

This paper proposes a novel design method for pyramid horns which are under the constraints of 3 dB beamwidth. It is based on the general radiation patterns of E/H planes derived from Huygens’ principle. Through interpolation and fitting techniques,the E/H plane’s maximum aperture error parameter of the pyramid horn is obtained as a function of the angle and aperture electrical size. Firstly, the aperture size of the E(or H) plane is calculated with the help of the optimal gain principle. Secondly, the constraint equation of another plane is derived. Finally, the intersection of constraint equation and interpolation function, which can be solved iteratively, contains all the solution *** general radiation patterns neglect the influence of the Huygens element factor which makes the error bigger in large design beamwidth. In this paper, through theoretical analysis and simulation experiments, two correction formulas are employed to correct the Huygens element factor’s influence on the E/H planes. Simulation experiments and measurements show that the proposed method has a smaller design error in the range of 0–60 degrees half-power beamwidth.

In federated learning, a parameter server may actively infer sensitive data of users and a user may arbitrarily drop out of a learning process. Bonawitz et al. propose a secure aggregation protocol for federated learning against a semi-honest adversary and a security enhancement method against an active adversary at ACM CCS 2017. The purpose of this paper is to analyze their security enhancement method and to design an alternative. We point out that their security enhancement method has the risk of Eclipse attack and that the consistency check round in their method could be removed. We give a new efficient security enhancement method by redesigning an authentication message and by adjusting the authentication timing. The new method produces an secure aggregation protocol against an active adversary with less communication and computation costs.

The present study introduces an innovative aerodynamic redesign of an axial flow fan based on constant diffusion factor and radial *** input design parameters such as mass flow rate,hub to tip ratio,aspect ratio,tip diameter and angular velocity are taken from NASA Rotor 67 as a conventional axial flow fan.A computer program is developed to extract the three-dimensional geometry of a fan and to estimate the span-wise distribution of *** new designed fan flow field is investigated in detail by CFD tool at both design and off design ***,a turbofan cycle analysis is conducted based on thermodynamic and gas dynamic principles to evaluate the fan performance in a turbofan engine in comparison to NASA Rotor *** a higher total pressure ratio,meeting the target pressure ratio in lower rotational speed with higher efficiency,delivering more bypass air in a constant diameter and less fuel consumption for the same specific thrust force are the main advantages for the new design strategy in comparison to the conventional designed fans such as Rotor ***,efficiency reduction in fan over speed is the main disadvantage.

Architectural design targets mainly humans, the lives of whom are dynamic and continuously changing. Consequently, the conventional design methodologies that deal with buildings as static entities do not always represent the proper method to generate user-friendly buildings. This paper presents a methodology that deals dynamically with the changing settings of buildings and their associated systemic configurations. This method is scenario-based design, in which scenarios represent essential tools for exercising various role playing and exploring potential “what-if” settings. In this method, a scenario structure aims to develop knowledge about each setting׳s compatibility to a set of prescribed expectations and quality criteria. To test the applicability of the proposed methodology, an experiential studio project is implemented. The project is orchestrated to illustrate the methodological use of scenarios and to gain in-depth understanding and predictive insights into the real-world architecture from various users’ perspectives. The method presented and discussed in this paper uses scenarios to analyze, develop and evaluate architectural design solutions that aim to achieve specific performance attributes, such as the flexibility, modifiability, transformability, adaptability, extensibility, functionality and operation of building components. The project that demonstrates the proposed method in action is illustrated by examples. The reflections about the method and its implementation seem to encourage its adoption as an alternative design processing tool that fits strongly within emergent typologies such as metamorphic, interactive, responsive and kinetic architectures.
