Forecasting the spatial and temporal charging Demand of fully electrified urban private car transportation based on large-scale traffic simulation

To support power grid operators to detect and evaluate potential power grid congestions due to the electrification of urban private cars,accurate models are needed to determine the charging energy and power Demand of battery electric vehicles(BEVs)with high spatial and temporal resolution.Typically,e-mobility traffic simulations are used for this purpose.In particular,activity-based mobility models are used because they individually model the activity and travel patterns of each person in the considered geographical area.In addition to inaccuracies in determining the spatial distribution of BEV charging Demand,one main limitation of the activity-based models proposed in the literature is that they rely on data describing traffic flow in the considered area.However,these data are not available for most places in the world.Therefore,this paper proposes a novel approach to develop an activity-based model that overcomes the spatial limitations and does not require traffic flow data as an input parameter.Instead,a route assignment procedure assigns a destination to each BEV trip based on the evaluation of all possible destinations.The basis of this evaluation is the travel distance and speed between the origin of the trip and the destination,as well as the car-access attractiveness and the availability of parking spots at the destinations.The applicability of this model is demonstrated for the urban area of Berlin,Germany,and its 448 sub-districts.For each district in Berlin,both the required daily BEV charging energy Demand and the power Demand are determined.In addition,the load shifting potential is investigated for an exemplary district.The results show that peak power Demand can be reduced by up to 31.7%in comparison to uncontrolled charging.

Trading Model Combining Electricity, Heating,and Cooling Under Multi-energy Demand Response

The emerging multi-energy system has brought new challenges and opportunities to energy business worldwide.To address the issues in multi-energy trading,this paper proposes an electricity,heating,and cooling trading model for the interaction between the multi-energy service provider(MESP)and multi-energy consumer(MEC)by using bi-level programming.In the upper level,the model instructs the MESP to make decisions on the optimal energy purchasing scheme and energy economic dispatch.In the lower level,optimal consuming patterns of different energies with the given retail prices are modeled for the MEC.Specifically,a novel multi-energy Demand response(DR)program that employs energy conversion devices is proposed.Numerical results show that MEC can reduce its consumption cost via the multi-energy DR.Meanwhile,MESP benefits greatly from the flexibilities of energy conversion.This research can provide theoretical support for the future development of multi-energy trading.

Freezing on Demand: A new concept for mine safety and energy savings in wet underground mines

The artificial ground freezing(AGF)systems are designed to operate continuously for an extended period of time to control the groundwater seepage and to strengthen the groundwater structure surrounding excavation areas.This mode of operation requires a massive amount of energy to sustain the thickness of the frozen body.Therefore,it is of great interest to propose new concepts to reduce energy consumption while providing sufficient structural stability and safe operation.This paper discusses the principle of the freezing on Demand(FoD)by means of experiment and mathematical model.A lab-scale rig that mimics the AGF process is conceived and developed.The setup is equipped with more than 80 thermocouples,flow-meters,and advanced instrumentation system to analyze the performance of the AGF process under the FoD concept.A mathematical model has been derived,validated,and utilized to simulate the transient FoD concept.The results suggest that the overall energy saving notably depends on the coolant’s temperature;the energy saving increases while decreasing the coolant inlet temperature.Moreover,applying the FoD concept in an AGF system leads to a significant drop in energy consumption.

With the gradual upgradation of global energy consumption and the associated development of multi-energy sources,the pace of unified energy planning and design has been accelerated and the concept of multi-energy system(MES)has been formed.The industrial structure of industrial park(IP)consists of production and marketing of multi-energy sources,which makes IP become an ideal application scenario for MES.The coupling between multi-sources raises the complexity level of IP,which requires the Demand side analysis in IP as it enables customers to actively participate in energy planning and development.This paper presents the concept and operation strategies of integrated Demand response(IDR),and its model classification is analyzed in detail.Optimization model and IDR with varying time period are studied in IP to determine their impacts on the system.A detailed survey of different techniques in both operation strategies and model classification is presented and the classification is based on pros and cons.Finally,key issues and outlooks are discussed.

The increasing rate of private car usage in the urban areas as a result of fast-growing economy,derelict policies and subsidies are the main causes making car parking one of the main concerns for transport and traffic management all over the world.The coordination between parking policies and traffic management revealed how parking is becoming a barrier to the through-traffic operation.Also,it is responsible for the inefficient use of available resources,even the decisions are made on an ad-hoc basis while making policy.Hence,it is necessary to understand the parking choice behaviour and actual Demand of parking space.In the last three decades,ample studies have been done to evaluate parking characteristics,to estimate the Demand for parking and on driver’s behaviour while choosing the parking space.This paper integrates all these aspects and presents the state-of-the-art review of models and studies on the parking system.Problems related to and due to the parking,various parking characteristics and their applications,parking choice behaviour of drivers,development of Demand models considering various factors and review of parking policies as an integral part of the urban transport system are discussed in detail.Whilst underdeveloped,authors found the literatures suggest that greater attention should be given to metrics like ease of access,walk time,parking charges,parking guidance and information system,management,etc.,at all stages of planning and policy formulation.Taken together,mentioned studies demonstrate useful information concerning the entire parking system.It also provides useful information to the planners and policy makers for planning,designing and evaluating parking system.

Seismic displacement Demand prediction in non-linear domain: Optimization of the N2 method

In Europe, computation of displacement Demand for seismic assessment of existing buildings is essentially based on a simplified formulation of the N2 method as prescribed by Eurocode 8(EC8). However, a lack of accuracy of the N2 method in certain conditions has been pointed out by several studies. This paper addresses the assessment of effectiveness of the N2 method in seismic displacement Demand determination in non-linear domain. The objective of this work is to investigate the accuracy of the N2 method through comparison with displacement Demands computed using non-linear timehistory analysis(NLTHA). Results show that the original N2 method may lead to overestimation or underestimation of displacement Demand predictions. This may affect results of mechanical model-based assessment of seismic vulnerability at an urban scale. Hence, the second part of this paper addresses an improvement of the N2 method formula by empirical evaluation of NLTHA results based on EC8 ground-classes. This task is formulated as a mathematical programming problem in which coefficients are obtained by minimizing the overall discrepancy between NLTHA and modified formula results. Various settings of the mathematical programming problem have been solved using a global optimization metaheuristic. An extensive comparison between the original N2 method formulation and optimized formulae highlights benefits of the strategy.

Choices of Varieties and Demand for Improved Rice Seed in Fogera District of Ethiopia

In this study, 151 households were randomly drawn from three randomly selected Kebele in probability proportional to size method. The demographic and socio-economic factors that determine the participation in improved varieties were household labor availability, education level of the household head,land holdings, distance to the nearest village market, proximity to the main market, and distance to access agricultural extension and access to the source of rice seeds. However, determinants of choice decision varied from cultivar to cultivar. The evidence of the study from the interdependence among the decision of adoption of improved rice varieties suggested that technology adoption will be accelerated by launching a progressively developing package and scheme of rice technology generation, and points to the importance of mobilising additional resources to augment households' efforts at popularization and promotion of improved rice cultivars.The findings from Linearized Almost Ideal Demand Systems(LA/AIDS) model showed that compelling evidence for small proportion changes in own prices and cross price of improved rice varieties led to greater than unitary proportionate changes in their purchases. The results generally showed that farmers were very sensitive to changes in improved rice seed prices and incomes. The major implication of the findings was that any intervention to improve farmers' seed purchases should take into account efforts to increase farmers' purchasing power of agricultural inputs like improved seeds and fertilizers.

Analysis on energy Demand and CO2 emissions in China following the Energy Production and Consumption Revolution Strategy and China Dream target

A quantitative model was applied to analyze the energy Demand and CO2 emissions in China following the Energy Production and Consumption Revolution Strategy(2016e2030)and long-term economic and social development target China Dream.Results showed that 1)toward the 2050 China Dream target,total final energy consumption is expected to peak at 3.9 Gtce in 2030 and remain stable until 2050,whereas total primary energy consumption is expected to reach an upper platform by 2040 and around 5.8 Gtce by 2050;2)the proportion of non-fossil fuels is expected to reach approximately 50%and that of natural gas to reach more than 16%by 2050;3)CO2 emissions from energy use are expected to peak at 9.6 Gt by no later than 2030 and then gradually decline to 6.7 Gt by 2050.

Non-Cooperative Differential Game Based Energy Consumption Control for Dynamic Demand Response in Smart Grid

In this paper, we conduct research on the dynamic Demand response problem in smart grid to control the energy consumption. The objective of the energy consumption control is constructed based on differential game, as the dynamic of each users’ energy state in smart gird can be described based on a differential equation. Concept of electricity sharing is introduced to achieve load shift of main users from the high price hours to the low price hours. Nash equilibrium is given based on the Hamilton equation and the effectiveness of the proposed model is verified based on the numerical simulation results.

A descriptive analysis of injury triage, surge of medical Demand, and resource use in an university hospital after 8.12 Tianjin Port Explosion, China

Objective： The 8.12 Tianjin Port Explosion in 2015 caused heavy casualties. Pingjin Hospital, an affiliated college hospital in Tianjin, China participated in the rescue activities. This study aims to analyze the emergency medical response to this event and share experience with trauma physicians to optimize the use of medical resource and reduce mortality of critical patients. Methods： As a trauma centre at the accident city, our hospital treated 298 patients. We retrospectively analyzed the data of emergency medical response, including injury triage, injury type, ICU patient flow, and medical resource use. Results： There were totally 165 deaths, 8 missing, and 797 non-fatal injuries in this explosion. Our hospital treated 298 casualties in two surges of medical Demand. The first one appeared at 1 h after explosion when 147 wounded were received and the second one at 4 h when 31 seriously injured pa- tients were received, among whom 29 were transferred from Tianjin Emergency Center which was responsible for the scene injury triage. After reexamination and triage, only 11 cases were defined as critical ill patients, The over-triage rate reached as high as 62.07%. Seventeen patients underwent surgery and 17 patients were admitted to the intensive care unit, Conclusions： The present pre-hospital system is incomplete and may induce two surges of medical de- mand. The first one has a much larger number of casualties than predicted but the injury level is mild; while the second one has less wounded but almost all of them are critical patients. The over-triage rate is high. The hospital emergency response can be improved by an effective re-triage and implementation of a hosoital-wide damage control.
