Static electric dipole polarizability of lithium atoms in debye plasmas

The static electric dipole polarizabilities of the ground state and n ≤ 3 excited states of a lithium atom embedded in a weekly coupled plasma environment are investigated as a function of the plasma screening radium. The plasma screening of the Coulomb interaction is described by the debye-Hiickel potential and the interaction between the valence electron and the atomic core is described by a model potential. The electron energies and wave functions for both the bound and continuum states are calculated by solving the SchrSdinger equation numerically using the symplectic integrator. The oscillator strengths, partial-wave, and total static dipole polarizabilities of the ground state and n ≤ 3 excited states of the lithium atom are calculated. Comparison of present results with those of other authors, when available, is made. The results for the 2s ground state demonstrated that the oscillator strengths and the static dipole polarizabilities from np orbitals do not always increase or decrease with the plasma screening effect increasing, unlike that for hydrogen-like ions, especially for 2s→3p transition there is a zero value for both the oscillator strength and the static dipole polarizability for screening length D = 10.3106a0, which is associated with the Cooper minima.

A detailed investigation of plasma screening effects on atomic structure and transition properties are presented for He-like ions embedded in dense plasma environment. Multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock calculations were carried out for these ions by considering a debye-H/ickel potential. The positron-impact excitation of hydrogen atoms embedded in plasma environments is investigated using the close-coupling approximation in the low to intermediate-energy region,and the excitation cross sections for 1s→2s,1s→2p and 2s→2p processes have been calculated in a wide debye parameter *** screening interactions, described by the debye-H(?)ckel model,decrease the coupling matrix elements,resulting in the reduction of the excitation cross sections from a few percent to one magnitude of *** will alter remarkably the spectroscopy of hydrogen in intensity and position,which should be considered in the simulation and diagnostics in some specific plasma conditions.

debye-screening effects on the electron-impact excitation(EIE)processes for the dipole-allowed transition 1 s_(2)^(1)S→1 s2 p^(1)P in He-like Al^(11+)and Fe^(24+)ions are investigated using the fully relativistic distorted-wave methods with the debye-Huckel(DH)model ***-screening effects on the continuum-bound(CB)interaction and target ion are discussed,both of which result in reduction of EIE cross *** reduction due to screening on the CB interaction is *** non-spherical and spherical DH potentials are adopted for considering the screening effect on the CB *** is found that the spherical DH potential could significantly overestimate the influence of plasma screening on EIE cross sections for multielectron He-like ions.
