The increased demand for food worldwide,the reduced land availability for livestock pro-duction,the increasing cost of animal feed and the need for mitigating livestock-related greenhouse gas emissions have driven the search for animal feeding systems that proves more *** tackle this problem,we propose the use of computational support to help researchers compare data on feed efficiency,therefore improving economic and environ-mental *** a solution,we present an integrative architecture capable of combining heterogeneous data from multiple experiments related to dairy cattle feed efficiency *** proposed architecture,called FeedEfficiencyService,classifies animals according to feed efficiency indices and allows visualizations through ontologies and inference *** results obtained from a case study with researchers from the Brazilian Agri-cultural Research Corporation–dairy cattle(EMBRAPA)demonstrate that this architecture is a supporting tool in their daily work *** researchers highlighted the importance of the proposed architecture as it allows analyzing animal data,comparing experiments,having reliable data analyses,and standardizing and organizing data from *** novelty of our approach is the use of ontologies and inference engines to enable the discovery of new knowledge and new relationships between data from feed efficiency-related *** store such data,relationships,and analyses of results in an inte-grated *** solution ensures unified access to the processing history and data from diverse experiments,including those conducted at external research centers.

Development and Application of Nested PCR Assay for Detection of dairy cattle-Derived Cyclospora sp.

To develop a nested PCR assay for the detection of cattle-derived Cyclospora sp., two pairs of primers were designed on the basis of the cattle-derived Cyclospora sp. sequences. These primers selectively amplified a 168-bp DNA fragment of the 18S rRNA gene of cattle-derived Cyclospora sp. With these primers, a nested PCR assay for the detection of cattlederived Cyclospora sp. was developed. The nested PCR assay was specific and there is no cross-reaction with other parasites, such as Eimeria spp., Cryptosporidium spp., Giardia sp., Toxoplasma sp., Trichuris sp. and cattle ciliate. The assay was able to detect as low as 2.85 × 10^-2 fg of the control positive DNA. The results of the detection of clinical samples indicated that the assay coincided with microscopic examination. The results show that the nested PCR assay will be an effective tool for the detection of Cyclospora sp. in cattle feces.

Meta-analysis of calorimeter data to establish relationships between methane and carbon dioxide emissions or oxygen consumption for dairy cattle

Recent developments suggest the use of other gases such as carbon dioxide(CO_2) to estimate methane(CH_4)emissions from livestock,yet little information is available on the relationship between these two gases for a wide range of animals.A large respiration calorimeter dataset with dairy cattle(n=987 from 30 experiments)was used to investigate relationships between CH_4 and CO_2 production and oxygen(O_2)consumption and to assess whether the predictive power of these relationships could be improved by taking into account some dietary variables,including forage proportion,fibre and metabolisable energy *** animals were of various physiological states(young n=60,dry cows n=116 and lactating cows n=811)and breeds(Holstein-Friesian cows n=876,Jersey×Holstein-Friesian n=47,Norwegian n=50 and Norwegian×Holstein-Friesian n=14).The animals were offered forage as a sole diet or a mixture of forage and concentrate(forage proportion ranging from 10 to 100%,dry matter basis).Data were analysed using a series of mixed *** was a strong positive linear relationship between CH_4and CO_2,and observations within an experiment were very predictable(adjusted R^2=0.93).There was no effect of breed on the relationship between CH_4 and CO_*** O_2 instead of CO_2 to predict CH_4 production also provided a very good fit to the observed empirical data,but the relationship was weaker(adjusted R^2=0.86).The inclusion of dietary variables to the observed CO_2 emissions,in particular forage proportion and fibre concentration,provided a marginal improvement to the prediction of CH_*** observed variability in the CH_4:CO_2 ratio could only marginally be explained by animal physiological state(lactating *** cows and young cattle)and dietary variables,and thus most likely reflected individual animal *** CH_4:CO_2 ratio can therefore be particularly useful to identify low CH_4 producing *** findings indicate that CO_2 production data can be used to

A total of 1366 fecal samples from the Ningxia Autonomous Region were *** overall infection rates for Cryptosporidium *** *** were 1.61%and 2.12%,*** was only detected in preweaned calves and adults older than 2 years,whereas *** was only detected in calves aged less than 11 *** *** characterized with a PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis and DNA sequence analysis of the small subunit rRNA *** Cryptosporidium species were identified:***(n =15) and ***(n =4) in preweaned calves,and ***(n =4) in adults aged over 2 years.A DNA sequence analysis of the gp60 gene suggested that the 15 *** isolates all belonged to subtype ***-nine G duodenalis isolates were analyzed by DNA sequencing of the triosephosphate isomerase(tpi) and glutamate dehydrogenase(gdh) *** *** assemblages were identified,assemblages E(n =15) and B(n=4,one subtype B1 and three subtype B2) in preweaned calves,and assemblage E(n =10) in 3-11-month-old *** predominance of *** detected in preweaned calves and the first identified subtype IIdA15G1 in dairy cattle,and the dominant G duodenalis assemblage E in this study differed considerably from those found in Henan,Heilongjiang,and Shannxi *** findings further confirm the dominance of *** IId subtypes in China.

Cryptosporidium *** enteric diseases in a wide range of animals,including dairy ***,limited information is available regarding prevalence and molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium *** dairy cattle in Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region(NXHAR),northwest China.A total of 2945 dairy feces samples(1224 from Gansu Province and 1614 from NXHAR)were collected between December 2012 and March 2014,and were tested by PCR amplification of the small subunit(SSU) rRNA gene.150(5.09%,58 from Gansu and 92 from NXHAR) samples were PCR-positive for Cryptosporidium,and the prevalence is associated with the region and age of dairy *** identification showed *** in 36 samples(24.00%,19 from NXHAR and 17 from Gansu),*** in 24 samples(16.00%,13 from NXHAR and 11 from Gansu),*** in 70 samples(46.67%,41 from NXHAR and 29 from Gansu),and *** in 20 samples(13.33%,19 from NXHAR and 1 from Gansu).A DNA sequence analysis of the gp60 gene suggested that all the 20 *** isolates represented subtype *** findings indicated the presence of zoonotic Cryptosporidium in Gansu and *** is the first report of four species of Cryptosporidium(***,***,*** and ***)infection in dairy cattle in Gansu *** is also the first report of *** infection in dairy cattle in *** control strategies should be implemented to prevent and control Cryptosporidium infection in dairy cattle and humans.

Cryptosporidium is a widespread protozoan parasite that infects a large number of vertebrate animals, resulting in varying degrees of diarrhea or even death. As dairy cattle feces is an important source of Cryptosporidium spp. infection, development of a handy and accurate detection method via its oocysts in dairy cattle feces would be interesting and necessary. We herein developed a quick detecting method using recombinase polymerase amplification(RPA) combined with Lateral Flow(LF) strip to detect DNA of Cryptosporidium oocysts in dairy cattle feces. The DNA was released by boiled water with 0.1% N-lauroylsarcosine sodium salt(LSS). The established method was proven to be of higher sensitivity than normal PCR amplification with the lowest detection of 0.5 oocyst per reaction, and specificity with no cross reactivity to other common protozoan species in the intestine of dairy cattle. The diagnostic method established herein is simple, rapid, cost-effective, and has potential for further development as a diagnostic kit for the diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis of dairy cattle.

To determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium in dairy cattle in Guangdong Province,South China,1440 fecal samples were collected from 10 farms and screened for Cryptosporidium with *** overall prevalence of Cryptosporidium was 4.38%(63/1440),and the infection rates in preweaned calves,postweaned calves,heifers and adults were 6.40%(19/297),6.19%(33/533),1.48%(4/271) and 2.06%(7/339),*** Cryptosporidium species,Cryptosporidium andersoni(n=33),Cryptosporidium bovis(n=22) and Cryptosporidium ryanae(n=8) were detected by DNA sequence analysis of the 63 positive samples,and *** was identified as the most common species on the dairy cattle *** preweaned calves,*** was the most prevalent species(9/19,47.37%).In contrast,*** was the predominant species(19/33,57.58%) in postweaned calves and the only species found in heifers and *** zoonotic species Cryptosporidium parvum was not detected in this ***-four *** isolates were successfully classified into three multilocus sequence typing(MLST) *** subtype A4,A4,A4,A1 was the predominant subtype,and MLST subtype A2,A5,A2,A1,previously found in sheep,was detected in cattle for the first time.A linkage disequilibrium analysis showed that the *** isolates had a clonal genetic population ***,further molecular studies are required to better understand the epidemiology of Cryptosporidium in Guangdong.

Effect of Yizhikang Powder on Hemorheological Indexes in dairy cattle with Retained Placenta

[ Objective ] The aim of the research was to reveal the mechanism of Yizhikang powder treatment on dairy cattle with retained placenta from the hemorheological perspective. [ Method] dairy cattle with retained placenta were treated with oral administration of Yizhikang powder. And their hemorheological indexes were measured and compared with the corresponding indicators of pre-administration group, healthy group, and control group （sick but untreated）.[ Result] There was large decrease amplitude in the indexes （whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, whole blood viscosity reduction viscosity, ESR, ESR equation K value, fibrinogen content, platelet aggregation rate, RBC deformability IF value） of treated dairy cattle with retained placenta. By t test, the indexes, except hematocrit, decreased significantly after treatment （P〈0.05） and reached the status of post partum healthy cows. The hemorheological indexes didn＇t change significantly in the control group before and after treatment. [ Conclusion] Yizhikang powder could significantly improve blood flow state and reduced the occurrence of qi stagnation and blood stasis in perinatal period.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Yeast Mastitis in dairy cattle

[Objective] Study on the yeast mastitis in dairy cattle cases which have been ineffectively treated by multiple antibiotics through traditional Chinese medicine prescription. [ Method] The isolated pathogenic fungi from milk were used for drug sensitivity testing and the ones proved were clinically treated by self-made traditional Chinese medicine prescription ＂Ruxiaotang＂. [ Result] 19 cases of 20 selected dairy cattle cases were diagnosed as yeast mastitis and cured with the except of a Candida tropicalis case. [ Conclusion] The results provide a new reference for curing yeast mastitis.
