A comprehensive method for refining essential SDGs variables for land degradation monitoring based on the dpsir framework

The United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)to address societal,economic and environmental sustainability *** efficiency of SDGs monitoring could be improved by essential variables(EVs),which can help to better deal with massive data,interdisciplinary knowledge and ***,in practice,effectively combining EVs with SDGs monitoring remains *** this paper,we proposed a refining method of essential SDGs variables(ESDGVs)to land ***,we selected northwest China as our experimental region and extracted a group of variables related to land degradation from SDG indicators based on the dpsir ***,we identify the essential ones using a combined qualitative and quantitative methods with the criteria of feasibility,spatialization,and relevance which considered the issues of data acquisition,monitoring scale,and closeness to the land ***,we analysed the monitoring role of *** show that,compared to conventional observations,ESDGVs facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of regional SDGs with reduced *** both climate and human activities have a facilitating or inhibiting effect on land degradation *** the future,we hope to have more mature data sets and consider adding more SDG indicators for ESDGVs’refinement.

A new combined framework for sustainable development using the dpsir approach and numerical modeling

Relying on the conceptual dpsir framework and MODFLOW analysis,this study used a mixed approach to produce groundwater resource management solutions for the Najafabad area in central *** to dpsir results,agricultural activities put the highest pressure on groundwater resources in this *** results showed the effectiveness of reducing waterwithdrawal over 30 years in maintaining the aquifer in a state of *** best scenario consisted of cutting down extraction by 10%over the said *** maps of the water table rise at the Najafabad aquifer clearly showed that the groundwater management scenario involving a 10%reduction ofwater withdrawal was the most effective solution,as itwould raise thewater level by 6.7 *** other scenarios,reducing cultivated area by 20%was found to raise the water table by 5.03 m on average,while cutting down water withdrawal by 5%increased the water table by 3.6 m,and a 10%reduction of the cultivated area resulted in a *** combinedmodel proposed here can be used for similar aquifers and can aid decision-makers and managers.

Regional land ecological security evaluation and ecological poverty alleviation practice:A case study of Yangxian County in Shaanxi Province,China

Land ecological security(LES)is an important part of China’s ecological civilization construction,which plays a vital role in ensuring the sustainable development of its society and *** on the Driving force-Pressure-State-Impact-Response(dpsir)framework,this study quantified the spatiotemporal changes of LES in 28 counties of the southern Shaanxi Province from 2009 to *** influencing factors of LES in Yangxian County were explored to clarify the mechanisms that rely on the land ecological advantages to develop organic agriculture and boost poverty *** show that the LES of Yangxian always ranked in the top six in 28 counties of the southern Shaanxi region during 2009–*** LES in Yangxian increased from 0.385 in 2009 to 0.533 in 2018,and the LES level changed from relatively unsafe to *** indicators of rural per capita net income,grain output per unit area of arable land,and grazing intensity could explain 99.8%of the LES variance in *** on ecological resources,Yangxian increased farmers’income and boosted alleviation of poverty through innovative land policies,developing organic agriculture,and rural *** findings will provide theoretical support and model reference for balancing ecological protection and poverty alleviation in restricted development zones.
